Good to have around the sqaud both because of his Manc roots as well as his seemingly infectious personality. He seems central to a great team ethic that is emerging.

Despite being abit underwhelming he scored 2 great Wembley goals and now has 2 winning medals: thats fantastic winning experience to have acquired.

Hope he develops further - certainly has a bright future at the club.

I wouldn't say his central, to me he comes across as a suck up, when you see Pogba, he's right behind, saliva dripping from his mouth. I doubt Pogba would give a shit if he moved on where as Lingard would be absolutely devastated.
As for his goal, wouldn't call it great but credit where it's due, played his part today.

Well taken goal but otherwise poor performance. Think our midfield would've fared better with just about anyone else in that position.

Lingard was central to the antics of the dressing room last season, including on the coach in that away game vs West Ham.

You can say its childish and abit strange, but he is not in the periphery.

Great to have a big game player like him from the local area.

The lad has already had a career he can be proud of. Most footballers will never have achieved what he has.

Great finish first half, though he should have done much better (or at least hit the target) with the one in the second half. Was a little worried where it looked like he was gonna brainlessly trip their player on the half way line whilst already on a booking (the Southampton player didnt go down, and then he got a talking to from the ref after that).

Horrible performance, it can't get more worse than this. Lost possession almost every time he had the ball. It looked like he is 5 years old and playing piggy in the middle with grown men. Most annoying is that he is not trying to move into positions to receive the ball, every time it looks like he could receive the ball he freezes and don't move to make it easier for his team mates to pass the ball to him, therefor he is closed down all the time. So poor.

He scored a great goal though, and he did contribute to our win, so we have to give him credit for that.

Though he rarely ever has a full 90 min great game - Everytime I see him do something good ( scoring a goal in any game is a decent performance in my book) it seems to be in the centre.

I don't like him on the wing - makes our attack lop sided & easy to defend against. He has a nice ability to pick out space & I'd actually like to see him do that from the center.

Pretty much this

Ditto. Big game player is exactly what he is & a lot of big game players like him are not the automatic pick on first 11's. I can see him only ever improving in that aspect.

Think some of the comments are overally harsh and if you look back I've been a huge critic of him, still am, but he did alright today.
Our midfield lost the battle and because of that Zlatan and Lingard were starved of service, he made a few decent runs and passes through the lines as well as his goal.
He was rightly taken off because he had done just about all a player of his ability can do, run, cause problems, hope to nick a goal.
I hope mhiki is fit again asap because I don't expect lingard to feature much, against teams that park the bus he is next to useless but fair play to him today, he contributed to winning the cup

Um, really? I thought he largely had a decent game, very nippy and got into dangerous areas. The bigger problem for me is that he shouldn't have been in that position in the first place; we needed a third midfielder. The fact that he was on the pitch rather than Carrick had a knock-on effect that saw Tadic get free way too often.

I can understand your frustration that he lost the ball a lot, but your claims about his movement are ludicrous; his movement is his best quality. The problem was more that everyone's passing was wayward today, and he often wasn't found when he took up good positions (I remember a few occasions where he made himself available for a pass in the final third with plenty of space in front of him and wasn't found). More to the point, he got himself free and in good positions twice in order to get a shot on goal. Scored one, missed the other. More than most people can say.

Ran his socks off for the team first half and was exhausted for the second. He brings a lot more to the team than fans realize. He scored one Ibra two yet Ibra gets all the credit while people call Jesse poor

Scores yet another goal at Wembley and people are complaining about him.... Just wow.

Lingard is a big game player and brings a lot to the team. He's Mourinho's new Willian. He will only get better.

I bring you this gem from...RAWK of all places

I've defended him as a squad player before, but this was a poor performance. Happy he got the goal and it was a cool finish, but he was a detriment in many ways. In fairness I thought his position in the formation and what's required for us to be defensively stable, maintain control of midfield and transition us from defense to attack from that spot is just not something anybody in our side is capable of aside from Mkhi.

Surprised Tottenham didn't try to bid for him after the rumor regard Martial & Rashford. Perfect Wembley player.

Dreadful performance but scored is this enough not for me. Would love him to be central to everything but he's levels below what we need.

I love how the consensus now seems to be that he had a horrible and awful game. Oh my! Confirmation bias well and truly at work. And now apparently even his movement is shit. A few games back he was one of the lowest rated players in the Stoke game even though he was quite good once he came on. But oh no, we don't have any haters here. They are all very objective and devoid of any kind of bias!

He had a decent game with next to no service from midfield. Tried a few things which didn't come off. One beautiful finish and should have another but skied it. Overall an ok game. Won't be starting too many games when everyone's fit but a good backup to have across all forward positions. United through and through, great attitude and a penchant for scoring in cup finals. What is it about him that invites so much hate? Does it have anything to do with him with the shit dab thing he does? Or is he not exotic enough for the the caf?

Obviously Lingard is more important to you than United

You'll have to excuse me for ignoring pointless stats like the one you posted. Even more pointless than the stats that were branded out in defense of Schneiderlin suggesting we were a better team with him. As if Lingard is to blame for us conceding twice while he was on the pitch. It's not even that hard to come up with such pointless and irrelevant stats. A few weeks ago Lingard had more chances created per 90 mins than Mkhitaryan (not sure if that is still the case) but I bet you weren't bringing that up. Or to follow your own kind of stat, since the Chelsea hammering we haven't lost a game where Lingard has started or played a part in. Whatever helps you sleep at night I suppose.

Thought he had a poor enough game and losing possession 12 times is pretty criminal. However, all our attackers bar Zlatan were pretty awful and at least Lingard managed to make a positive contribution with his goal, and in all honesty, he should have had two. There's absolutely no need to pretend that he played well because he didn't and I've seen him have far better games than that.

He wasn't very good... and looked completely lost at times in the first half. But then nobody bar Zlats was very good, and at least he scored, so Jesse can get a pat on the back from me.

Where are the stats on that? I'm sure i can remember him winning the ball back several times.

Not sure if that stat is true or not, but from watching the game I can say he does lose the ball a lot. Bad controls and first touches, over-running the ball while running with it, getting muscled off it quite a bit, bad passes at times.

I think his off the ball movement is good and he's a willing runner, but he doesn't have enough quality on the ball to ever be anything more than a squad player for us.

From F365 16 conclusions (no idea where they got their stats):

* That was always going to happen. ‘How can Lingard survive under ruthless Mourinho?‘ was the question I posed recently. ‘By scoring in cup finals’ was one particular response. His third goal in three Wembley appearances handed United a two-goal lead.

It was perhaps their best move of the match. Rojo, a safe distance from his own goal, combined with Pogba, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial to fashion an opportunity for Lingard, who placed his effort into the far corner.

His overall performance did little to ease suspicions that he is not good enough – he lost possession on 12 occasions and did not gain it once – with the game passing him by for large swathes. He also missed a glorious chance late on, before being substituted straight after. But he is scoring goals in cup finals at Wembley, and I’m sat here writing about him. So there.

Exactly my sentiments. I find it bizarre that some are trying to claim he played well, when it's clear as day that he didn't. But still, he got a goal and that was more of contribution than any of our other attacking players (bar Ibra, of course). I actually think it's extremely disingenuous towards Lingard to suggest that he played well, as he is clearly a better player than he showed himself to be yesterday.

I thought he was terrible. And I'm someone who rates him and thinks he's a useful option to have. Delighted for him getting the goal and credit where it's due for a decent finish but it's been a while since I've seen a United player lose the ball so carelessly and repeatedly. He couldn't pass water.

Just confirm to me what he has done against the likes of City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea?

His record at Wembley though is great no doubt about it.

For one thing I couldn't care if he spent his spare time running around dressed as a chicken. What matters to me is what he does on the pitch, which most other posters criticising him are concerned about

Some newbie idiot was even suggesting it's because the colour of his skin that people were criticising him although they would prefer Rashford or Martial as well as Mata and Mkhi, like I do , to be playing instead of him. That was even more pathetic than the blind belief that Lingard can do no wrong.

As for not having lost a game since Chelsea, he started the 2nd leg against Hull which we lost 2-1. I prefer wins to draws.

If you can't see that we play much better as a team without Lingard than with him, then that's your problem.

Yesterday, he scored a goal , fine, he did absolutely nothing else of note except nearly getting sent off. And my main criticism of him which has been all along is not the number of goals he scores or his assists, which he pops up occasionally with, it's his overall play which 90% of the time is not contributing to the team, yesterday being a prime example, he scores a goal - the rest of the match no-one would have noticed if he was on the pitch or not until he makes a mistake.

He's a local lad, academy product, friend with Pogba and I'm happy for him getting a goal at Wembley again...but if we want to move forward as a team and become CL contenders again he has no place even as a backup player.
