It doesn't feel like West Ham are a man down because Lingard has been invisible and has offered nothing in attack apart from that terrible miss. Shouldn't have started the game, we have much better options.

Valencia had little more time to react in fairness. They were both dreadful misses... I'd say Lingards was worse because he's smack bang in the centre of the goal

He should be the impact player and Mata or Martial should be starting instead. Lingard has shown no sign of being capable as a regular starter in a side that wants to be in the top 4, let alone win the league.
He's a decent squad player. And squad players need to start games every so often, especially when you've played 2 days ago.
But obviously he's a big step down in threat from Mhky and Martial.

Not sure what makes him good enough to be a squad player for us. He excels at nothing. At best he's average, at worst he's a liability.

He wasn't that bad but we probably wouldn't have won that game if he stayed on the pitch. Need your wide man to do more than just buzz about and pass to whoevers standing beside you. Rashford done more in 5 minutes than he did all game
Rashford sub changed the game, another bloody awful game from Lingard.
Maybe a loan in January would allow Jose to asses if he's worth keeping, especially with the current contract dispute (Jesse wanting £120k+ and the club 'only' prepared to double his wages to £60k/week).

It's clear he's a more defensive option with a view to taking less risks. The second they went down to 10 Mourinho didn't care for a winger tucked in if we weren't creating much.
The fact that your first thought after we took the lead was to come in here and moan about Lingard says everything.
Awful performance. His ability to be tidy in possession is useful at times, but against 10 men his refusal to take his man on was damaging. He also kept running inside rather than keeping the width or making runs in behind which made it difficult for us to create chances despite the man advantage. Rashford stayed wide and was a constant threat getting in behind the defenders when he came on.

It's also worth to mention their RB was there for the taking. Havard Nordveit is a DM or a centre back and it showed once Rashford came on. Any winger with any kind of positivity would have a field day, being one man up.
Miss was one of those things, not really sure you can blame him for that. With how Martial and Rashford are playing he surely won't be starting vs Liverpool
