Hes played well. Yes it was a cheap free kick to give away, but some people acting like hes the only player to ever give a freekick away. The defending from the set piece was worse.

Good run for his chance too. Hes linking up well.

As a team? Pretty average really. Been on top but usual issue has occurred with lack of being able to put teams to the sword. Lingard? Played better the last 10 minutes of the half but still average performance IMO.

Considering how many games the likes of Tello, Munir, Bojan etc... got then I'd say the answer is yes.

Yes, they would pick an academy kid over an underperforming star.

They only played when it was a cup game or someone was injured/needed a rest

Isn't that the whole problem? He is barely above decent in general. So when the heights are so low, I don't see the point in him being a starter over Mkhitariyan who had a very good game midweek.
 
He isint a winger he isint a striker he isint a number ten he isint a midfielder. What is he is still a question ? Does he dribble past players? Does he creates enough? Does he play through balls splitting defences What's his best position? I am sure most here don't have answers to these questions.

If all you can do is just pass the ball to the player next to you then you don't deserve to be playing for united.

The poster in question has a history of making ridiculous posts like that. Like every United player is expected to play at the level that Barcelona or Real Madrid does. Its not a one-off, you can look at the history yourself. If you think there's any logic in posts like that then you're an embarrassment as well

I swear if he wasn't an academy player you wouldn't get people constantly defending him in the face of poor performances. I don't care what issues Martial has with his personal life and his form, surely he would've offered more than Jesse tonight.
 
Wasn't his worst performance by any means, but even at whatever can be described as his best, he's nothing more than a 6 or 7/10 player.

I agree with you about Lingard starting over anyone Scholesy but loublaze has a thing about Lingard so best not to go there. By the way not often I agree with you Scholesy lol.
 
He was ok today, it just often feels like his best level is quite a bit lower than what we need, he's not a big enough threat in the role he is given.

Martial has offered less than Lingard all season, your saying pick Martial because he is obv the better player? Martial is the one offering next to nothing, you can't keep picking players based on reputation, Wayne Rooney is the prime example of that

I think it's weirder to have certain posters who only come in this thread to criticise him, but are nowhere to be seen when he scores.

And what exactly is Lingard offering? Martial is world class. Lingard should be playing for Watford.

More than Martial that's the point. He's a world class talent, there's a difference. He's far from world class and hasn't been in form since before the euros, which is natural for a young player to go through periods like this.

He's more productive than Cleverly, we all have our opinions but clearly some have an agenda against Lingard.
He cant even celebrate correctly for some people

But that's flatly untrue, he's not 'barely above decent in general' at all. He's a good player, and the grief he gets on here is pathetic.
