Seems a bit like a signing to mirror Kompany! Kompany has more passion about him though.
It leaves us with just two good CBs - three if you count in Martinez, who is a bit wasted there instead of playing DM.It's the last opportunity to get a big fee for him, you already have his successor and are eyeing an other promising CB in Pavard. It's just good long term planning.

Luckhurst taking the worst out of every situation in an attempt to wind people up, this board especially should be wise to his bollocks by now.
Last season he won almost the same percentage of duels on the ground and a much higher one in the air. He also created 3 big chances in his 19 league games, whereas Hummels had 0 in 26. Boateng had 1 mistake leading to a goal in those games, Hummels 2 in his. Both completed almost the same percentage of passes (~87%).Interesting perspective. Has he played at a level comparable to Hummels recently?
It doesn't look like we're getting him this summer though. You'd still have time to sign a replacement as JP is pointing out though.

Hummels won and intercepted more balls, Boateng blocked more shots.

We play 6 matches less than you, though.19, 13, 19 - that's the amount of league games the last three seasons, exactly the same as Phil Jones.
9 games (starting 8 subbed on 1 subbed off 1), same as Hummels. Not terrible, not great either all things considered.
I guess it's hard to look bad in a team that dominates that league in such a way.
Did he play CL much?
So why have Bayern been offering him to every team in Europe all summer? Genuine question
9 games, same as Hummels.
Yeah, and I repeat that we should not let him go without immediately bringing in a replacement. So basically he's still useful!
Was he Injured for all of his missed games or could he have been rotated for game time? You do have 3 top quality CB if I'm not mistaken? We play 6 matches less than you, though.

Not sure why everyone is acting like Boateng is some joke. He's still a damn good player.
Going off that logic Jones proved his fitness during the World Cup also. So no need for a new shiny central defender...
Just out of curiousity, has he shown any noticeable decline due to the injuries or is he still very good when he plays? And I genuinely don't know, or understand the board on that one. Probably more to do with off the pitch stuff (salary?) than football.

He was benched in 7 league games last season where he possibly could have played. Was he Injured for all of his missed games or could he have been rotated for game time? You do have 3 top quality CB if I'm not mistaken?
Okay cheers. You’ll have to read back, but I know I’ve read several posts here by people following Bundesliga closely and also Bayern, and who have stated that he has played well below par the last couple of seasons when playing.
I suspect this as well. I also suspect Levy will not be fooled that easily...It seems to me that this is just a game of brinkmanship with Levy. Maguire and Boateng are smokescreens. Alderweireld wants to join United and after the transfer window shuts he loses a lot of value. Levy wants rid whilst his value is high and United know that.
He started in every important match he was available for, our CL clashes against Real above all (which ended his season last season).Just out of curiousity, has he shown any noticeable decline due to the injuries or is he still very good when he plays?
If someone said that, they would be wrong. You’ll have to read back, but I know I’ve read several posts here by people following Bundesliga closely and also Bayern, and who have stated that he has played well below par the last couple of seasons when playing.
Well said, except we have 6 CB on the books. I don't get chasing this fellow, Bayern don't sell unless the player is past it or injured most of the time. This bloke seems both. At least we had some good moments with Owen waste of 50 million on this chap.Remember when everyone laughed at Liverpool's defence, and Klopp wanted Van Dijk to "solve" their problems at the back?
Only Southampton didn't want to sell, so Klopp didn't sign anyone despite their creaky defence, and a few months later he got his man - and it looks like it's a good fit (based on the half season VVD has been a Scouser).
Meanwhile we want Alderweireld, or Bonucci, or Maguire, but we'd also take Mina, or you say Boateng is available? Great, we'll take him. I mean, we only have 5 CBs (all full internationals), and Jose's only bought two of them. So obviously any fecking CB whatsoever is going to somehow be the answer to our all our problems...
Look, I get that we probably do need an experienced CB to play alongside Bailly (hopefully) but there's no sense of any strategy here. It's just throwing shit at the wall and hoping some of it will stick. And if we end spending £40-50m on Jerome bloody Boateng.... He's crocked, he's past it, there's a reason Bayern are selling him
