Don't agree. His pace, positional sense and ability to read the game were part of what made him an excellent defender in a high line. Coming back for last-ditch recoveries has been part of that as well. As has already been said: he's simply not in a good shape atm.

@GhastlyHun and @strongwalker have also got it right about Löw being behind him pushing up so far as a playmaker, imo.
 
He’s done at the very top level. Would be batshit if we get mugged off by Bayern again.

He is very reliable for Bayern. Mina was just shit papers in Spain. This is a different level
 
Why are we being linked to all these slightly above average centrebacks? It's like the who's who of Tier 2 CBs. I don't really want any of them.
 
Boateng is a world class defender. But his injuries..

It's been there for a while apparently. The Times previously said that Boateng was one of the targets Mourinho gave to Woodward a few months ago. That same article also said that Alderweireld was near the bottom of the list of targets.
 
The only possible thinking is that we're targeting Tobby, Maguire and Boateng all at the same time and seeing which one will we reach an agreement with by the end.

Think we'll end up not signing anyone anyway.
 
I feel like there could be something in this news. If we still haven't agreed a fee with Spurs for Alderweireld, Leicester are refusing to sell Maguire and Mina is moving to Everton, there could be some legs in these rumours.
 
Regarding the news itself, Boateng has to be the rock bottom of my dreams when it comes to a CB. Tobby > Maguire > Boateng for me. He's another Bastian in the making, otherwise Bayern won't be willing to get rid of him.
 
I believe it's true that we want him because Kicker says that since weeks and now Sport Bild too.

The problem is that he will be another Schweinsteiger and Rummenigge's comment about his lifestyle should be a massive warning sign for us!!!! :nervous:

The guy is finished and was trash at the WC too it was plain to see.


Either get Alderweireld or nobody.

Might be legs in the rumour but not on the player as his have gone a couple of seasons ago
 
I actually think he's still a very good defender. Had a shocking world cup of course but which German player didn't? Still good enough at club level.

That said I'm not sure a defender who has power and instinct is what they need as you have that in Bailly and Smalling. A thinking CB like Maguire or Toby would be better fit imo.
 
Sensational footballer. His body is shot to bits though and I'm not even sure if he was ever that good of a defender but who is these days?

A question I ask myself is if he's going to drastically improve us and the answer is yes if we can keep him fit.

I'd prefer Toby but if it has to be Boateng then I'm not going to lose my shit over it!!

I've not seen an awful lot of him of late, but from what I've read, his legs are shot now after all the injuries. Although, quite a few Bayern fans still rate him when he's fit.
 
He's a City reject, poor for Germany, not wanted at Bayern, 30 next month. Only played 50% in Bundesliga matches in the last three year, and there is concern he spends too much time over his off-field activities. Bayern want over £40m for him. Ha ha ha. We are desperate. So he is PERFECT!!! Grr.
 
This feels a very United signing doesn't it? Has the smell of Schweinsteiger albeit we could all be wrong and he'll be a good CB for a few years for us.
 
If we sign Boateng I seriously can't get behind this management anymore.

He's nowhere near as good as he was, Bayern clearly want him gone. Really hope this is just Bayern using our name to push forward other suitors.
