Another Bastian. Stay away please.

He will never age well in premier league and will be a liability in a year or 2 max.

Always urge caution when Bayern are selling a player. They only sell players when they are not far from needing the scrapheap. Hargreaves and Schweinsteiger arrived here hailed as saviours and both made about 3 appearances between them here.

If we can get 2 seasons out of Boateng then it might be worth the money as we can get Alderweireld for 25 million next summer.

This. Stay away from him at all costs. Another Bastian.

Would be such a post Fergie United signing. Ie the wrong one.

Boateng isn't who we should be after. Slow, relatively weak physically and from what I've seen (German NT matches) his build-up play is decent but nothing special by any means. He's just average. And he used to play for the oily side of Manchester. No thanks. Would rather we spend way too much money on someone like Koulibaly or even go for a more left-field option like Lascelles.

He reminds me of Ledley King who was constantly injured.

Anyhow, seen him play a few times and he seems to have lost pace and you get the impression any challenge n him would put him out of service for weeks.

I feel Bayern's board are just dangling key players out there who have been disgruntled to prove a point. When no one meets their asking price them they will say "see none of the top clubs are really interested in you".

Overrated but can pass the ball a bit. Has to be in with a shout as thats the same criteria as Toby

He's looked really cumbersome and laboured the last few times I've seen him, going down the other side of the hill and would find the PL hard to adapt to, if he moves Italy would make more sense.

I always get the feeling you want to see Smalling continue on as a regular startinmg CB at United.

There's a reason Bayern are ok with selling him. He's past it. United should aim for being on the level of Bayern, you don't get there by buying there declining players.

I will also always remember him for his brick fall after Messi dribbled at him.

No. Bayern looking to cash in on an over the hill player. Don't fall for it

not even close to good enough. I'd love it if he was a Basti (we misused that guy), but he's more a Smalling. Nowhere as good as bailly. Now those Urugauyian fellas....

Bailly hopes he becomes as good as Boateng

This thread
I learned that Boateng should be nowhere near the Bayern first 11 or the national team.

Boateng is when fully fit still a starter for us, whereas Schweinsteiger was far past it and Hargreaves only had one single very good season when they moved. He'd most certainly be your best defender (and could be for us too) if he stays injury free next year. Claims that someone like Bailly was better than him are ridiculous, no offense. We are only considering to sell him because of his recent injury problems as well as him apparently wanting to move, with us having Süle who is extremely talented as well.

Wait.. Bailly is better than Boateng?

My only concern is his injury record. Otherwise he would be a good signing

He is talented, but I'm not convinced he'll ever reach the heights of peak Boateng (ca. 2013-16). Then again, Boateng probably won't be his old self anymore either, so it's not really an argument against promoting Süle.

Still, Bayern will need to do very well transfer-wise to absorb the pending loss of additional key players from the Heynckes/Guardiola generation.

so where is Boateng's turn of speed and reading of the game? Did you see the germany game? headless chicken

Have you seen it? Boateng prevented a goal in the first minute of the match and over the whole 90 minutes was probably the only German outfield player who could claim to have had an acceptable performance.

Again, this seems a little bit harsh. The problem was the fullbacks and Germany being not very tactically astute. On numerous occasions Boateng and Hummels were left to fend for themselves vs three Mexico attackers. It was ridiculous.

This.. Plus they were really lacking a decent workhorse in the midfield area .

His injury record - and it’s long term impact - worries me with this one. From past experience, be warry of dealing with Bayern when they’re openly looking to sell big name players.
