Jerome Boateng

Hope he stays.

If Bayern can get say 30 MP for him, don't you think it will be beneficial? It will allow Sule to play as a starter, something his talent deserves but what would irritate Boateng if he stayed, and the money can be used to sign a decent back up from Germany or abroad.

Right now we only have three good CBs in Hummels, Boateng, and Süle. Martinez can play there too, but that's a waste.

He is a crock. Wouldnt leave if he was fit. He just isnt fit and thus good enough over a season and wants a big fat paycheck. No thanks, stay clear of this one

If we can improve Smalling's injury record, I'm sure we can Toby's.

30m would be a joke of a sum in the current market, even with his injury record. It'd be an awful deal. I'd say 50mp at minimum to be honest and then I'd be happy to see him leave Bayern.

I was for some reason thinking his contract was ending next season, it is 2021. I don't think he'd go for 50 MP even in this current market though, maybe I'm too behind the times as well.

Kicker reporting that Bayern are interested in Hoffenheim's Vogt. So a possible replacement might already be lined up.
Who knew he could make within two years from being surplus to requirements at Cologne to Bayern('s radar).

Our defenders don't have to cover as much ground as they do at Bayern. If we could get him fit, he might be absolutely superb for 3-4 seasons.

Kevin Vogt? I don't trust any defender who thrives in a 3 man system, way to big of a change to move back into a 2 man system. Would rather want someone more comfortable in a 2 man system, why don't they make a cheeky bid for Sokratis, he worked well with Hummels before.

Sokratis to Arsenal is supposedly all but done already. And the reason Dortmund is willing to cash in on him (his lack of skills on the ball) is the same reason Bayern won't be interested.

Btw: Kicker attribute Bayern's supposed interest in him with Kovac's desire two switch between 3cb and 2cb formations, but who knows? Rudy, Süle, Gnabry, Wagner, Starke - 1899 München is taking shape.

Good CBs are rare and not easy to find for a decent fee. I would go for a young, but talented CB. Pavard and De Ligt come to my mind, would be great at Bayern.

Another Ramos Scenario upcoming :nono:
plus when Bayern opted to sell a certain player, he usually past his peak and has long-term injury record
He is finding his last lucrative retirement home.

Ah yes that may make sense, Kovac preferred a 3 CB defensive system at Frankfurt (though I didn't follow them that closely). If that is the case then it does not make sense to sell Boateng, you can't plan to a 3 CB defensive system with only 4 CB's (counting Martinez, though he should not be playing there) in the entire squad.

that would be quite some pathetic replacement attempt, jeez..dreadful

The "replacement" is already there, it would be Süle if Boateng leaves. We also have a very young and talented CB (Mai) and thus an "okay" backup for that position could be enough especially if Martinez is also seen as CB.

I bet Hoeneß would love that idea, yea..sorry, as much as I actually trust Hoeneß since he's done a great job at Bayern - not participating in this market and waiting for some kind of bubble to pop is a little bit neglectful. Bayern needs absolute world class to keep the current level, Süle is not even on prime Boateng level. The squad as a whole is ageing and some talents are simply not the answer. I really expect Bayern to more and more irrelevant internationally in the next seasons if they refuse to adress the problems properly. Vogt won't cut it against Barcelona & co

Boateng "didn't cut" it in the last years against those teams either so what? Süle had two great games against Real and kept someone like CR invisible, he is not a "prime Boateng" yet but that's mainly due to his inferior buildup play (which is still good but Boateng/Hummels are exceptional in that area) while his defending is already roughly at the same level (slightly worse on the ground but also stronger in the air) and he has overall certainly the potential to be a world class CB (Heynckes thinks so too).

Hummels, Süle, Martinez and a solid 4th CB on top of a very talented Mai is certainly enough. We could need strengthening in other areas but that is easier said than done and has nothing to do with this discussion.

Martinez is no cb, though and you've already said it, Süle for Boateng is a downgrade. Also, I didn't talk in favor of Boateng, so him not cutting it doesn't have anything to do with what I said. If he wasn't able to prevent many mistakes, a cb of lesser quality - Süle - won't be the answer.

All of the others are good in the air but have speed problems. And Boateng is way better in build up play than Hummels is. None of them beats top form Boateng even if we haven't seen that recently because of the injuries.

no sure hes the answer to our current problems, decent defender but most who play for Bayern look good, when he's attacked always looks vulnerable to me, would rather we go for Javi Martinez if any one from Bayern could play at CB and CM,

Loving his performance today, exactly what our defence needs

He would be good for the short term. We should sell either Smalling or Jones

He has appeared in 19, 13 and 19 league games for Bayern in the last three seasons. Do we have any idea why? Injuries or performances?
Apart from that concern, I have two other concerns:
1. His status at Bayern seems a lot like Bastian's when he came to us.
2. Ex-city player. Not in love with that idea.

CB for me is not the most pressing issue. Would rather see Lindelof being given some chances. But if we are signing a CB, getting him rather than being looted Spurs is a plus point.

Rather Skrinar or Alderweireld - actually Alderweireld for 25m next summer to annoy Spurs fans :)

An injury prone player from bayern. What can possibly go wrong?

Zero pace. Constantly beaten by pacy players.

Never forget that awful ankle breaker from Messi.

Don't want him.

Oh, another injury prone CB - at least we wouldn't have to take the efforts to develop him to one..

If we can get him for a reasonable fee I wouldn't mind but ONLY if we address out other problem positions first, especially at LB! Rather also sign a RW ahead of him and potentially another CM.

Would prefer Toby Alderweireld over him, purely because he seems to be more of a leader, more PL experience (Boateng, albeit very young at the time, failed at City), Toby is more of an aerial threat going forward and even though he has had his injury issues over the past season or so, he is overall less injury prone than Boateng. Boateng over the past 3 seasons has averaged 28 games a season, yes in Germany they play less games but that seems very low, Bale territory that! Alderweireld over the past 3 season averages 38 games.

Think Bayern or his agent are just name-dropping us to find potential buyers.

I really hope so. I’d rather we raid Ajax and just get the their excellent young defender, who actually looks like he’s going to be a real leader as well as an excellent defender.

Is he even any good? I haven't seen much of Bayern or Germany, but when I do he never looks that impressive at the top level. Also strange that Bayern would want to sell one of their best defenders apparently?

Something doesn't seem right to me.

I thought part of the reason he left City was because he wasn't settled in England/Manchester, seems highly unlikely he'd be tempted back.

Injuries. He's missed 353 days in the last two seasons due to injuries (33 games) according to Transfermarket. To put that into perspective, the previous 5 seasons he was at Bayern he missed 222 days (43 games) due to injuries.

No point selling a player like Rojo/Jones just to replace them with another injury prone player.

No way. We already have Rojo/Jones to keep each other company. Why get someone else in to crowd the medical facilities?

A lot of media speculating Bayern want De ligt as a replacement. The same name was thrown around when we were linked with Alderwield. I think we should go for him instead.
