Only an idiot would replace our best striker ever with someone whom last year scored an amazing 9 goals in 36 matches.

The report says we have made an official enquiry for £15 millon rated striker Defoe. Thats the Mirrors own evaluation.

He wouldn't be more than £12 million, no way.

I dont know. Havent seen much of Torres so i cant say. He did impress me at this world cup and looked like a world class striker in the making. My point is that i would rather see us not sign anyone this summer than end up spending 15 million on a striker we dont need. Infact i would rather us not sign Defoe at all. We have good strikers at the club who need opportunities to improve and to prove themselves. Smith has done very well for us when he's gotten a chance. Atleast he offers grit and bite upfront. IMO Defoe doesnt offer anything new.

Ideally, we need a pure goalscorer because none of the ones we have are that. Torres again havent seen much of but from the WC it seemed he's got it in him to be one of those really quality top class strikers, but i say this only on the evidence of the WC. But my view is i would rather us not sign anyone that someone like Defoe. If we do have 15 mill to spend, then sign a midfielder.

Compared to Torres 13 goals in 36 league starts...

He has the potential to become a much better player then some average striker who was able to score an amazing 9 goals in 36 natches.

Defoe's always had excellent potential, and actually shown in it in the real league, as opposed to some half arsed reserves league.

Defoe didn't have a good season last year, much of which was down to him not starting regularly. He's shown a lot of ability in his career to date however, you'd have to be blind or clueless not to see that

And this 36 matches statistic doesn't tell the whole story, as a lot of those were from the bench.

He started 23 league games, 9 goals

In comaprison, Torres started 36 league games, and notched 13 goals...

Well thats fine its your opinion. Even if thats the case now that we have Saha it doesnt make sense. I feel Saha is a lot better. Gets you more goals, gets into better positions, is brilliant in the air, and very very quick, great burst. And he was very consistant last season. Defoe is similar, he has pace, a little more skillful but he isnt a consistant goalscorer, and cant even get into the spurs side. Robbie Keane and Mido are ahead of him at Spurs. This signing would really be baffling. Being cash strapped and needing a couple of midfielders we find the resources to spend 20 million on a striker we dont need a reserve keeper.

I think thats the Mirror's (who ran the story) or Spurs evaluation. At no point does it say we dangled £15 million in front of them.

He's certainly worth £8 - 10 million.

Just wonder where this leaves Rossi though, as I'm unsure they could forge a partnership. Neither are more than 5 foot 4!

Defoe had never scored 20 goals per season and Crouch had scored more goals with the national team then he did. Is this the guy we want to replace RVN with?

Selling RVN is a poor move IMO, you're not going to be able to replace him like for like.

That's got nothing to do with suggesting Rossi is better than Defoe however, which is stupid.

You use some bizarre stats to attempt to rate players...

Whats Rooneys international goalscoring record? Or league for that matter.
I havent seen much of Torres but from the world cup he looked pure quality. Strong, quick, skillful and his finishing was good. He's the main striker for spain whereas Defoe is behind Owen, Crouch, Walcott(:lol: ) and others for England, and behind Mido and Robbie Keane for Spurs.
 
Torres is one of those players that everyone's wanked over for ages on the internet. If/When he does actually come over here, the chances are a lot of people are going to end up disappointed..

A pure striker is there to score. If he isnt able to score then he is little better then horse shit.

Maybe. Atleast he was one of the best strikers at the wc. Defoe cant even get into his Itnernational squad or start for his club side, which isnt a top 4 club.

See i think hes good. He's got a fair amount of skill. But IMO he gives us nothing new. Its like Bellamy for Liverpool. Now for Liverpool Bellamy is a great signing because he offers something different to Crouch and would compliment crouch very well. Now we already have Saha who is very good, and alan smith. For us to get a Bellamy or a Defoe makes no sense at all, especially when we have Rossi who needs opportunities and a gaping hole in midfiel.

Defoe's strike rate last season was comparable with Torres....

And again, this is all totally irrelevant to the daft opinion that Rossi has shown anything that suggests he's better than Defoe..
