Yes, but only as a last resort if our attempts at signing proven quality attackers fails. A poacher like Defoe is better than lumping it up to Fellaini - better than nothing, even if we're only using him sparsely and bringing him on for the last 10 minutes when we desperately need a goal.

if both Ibra and Rooney leave in the summer, and we get a quality replacement in for Zlatan then i wouldn't be against Defoe coming in for Rooney as it would be an upgrade in my opinion. He obviously will be on a lot less wages and will provide more goals i think. He isn't going to be our main striker but he would allow us to fill a gap while keeping our transfer budget untouched to go after our main targets.
The amount of people not wanting a serial goalscorer in the squad for free and decent wages is beyond me, if his wages are infact decent, he'd be better to have in the team than the likes of Lingard and would actually give us goals.

Surely at Defoe's age he'd rather go somewhere where he is likely to start every week anyway. Could see him at Palace next season.
Rooney can not score 15 goals a season anymore, he is not clinical in front of goal anymore as Defoe still is.
Not to mention Rooney his wages are like 3 times bigger
I get your point but I think Defoe vs Charlie Adam isn't accurate. Defoe's goal record is impressive - especially given how bad Sunderland are.
Would think Woodward would haggle him down to way less than Lingard's new deal.
If this season proves anything it is that a) we are shit at finishing b) our squad is too small - Defoe would help both of those.
Likely he'll want to play but, if he's happy as back up, run outs in the 'smaller' cups and getting games when Rashy/new striker needs resting he'd be great for his ability and hopefully as a mentor
Defoe is 34+. I wouldn't want him at United. I would rather get someone around 30 for experience (except Rooney.... he's around 38-39 in footballing years) considering we're going to start the season without Rooney and Zlatan.

I'm not too sure if Defoe would fit in with Mourinho's style of attack. Just because he's free, doesn't mean we need to get him. Defoe offers pretty much the same thing that Rashford does. I would rather get someone whose relatively different, so that we have multiple game plans.
Can be a 3rd choice option for us. Take up Rooney's place provided Ibrahimovic leaves us as well.

If Rooney was to play up front every game and have everything go through him like it does for Defoe at Sunderland I think he'd score way more than he does for us. Definitely double figures, maybe not 15 though.
I also have doubts of whether Defoe can be clinical and sharp when he's only playing now and again. Some players, especially strikers, need to be playing every week to be at their best. Defoe wasn't great in a bit part role when he was at Spurs.
