if 35m is a bit put in by west ham, why can't Utd match that bid as fair market value??? i mean feck right off UEFA

I mean technically we still can. Or even better sign him for less but the issue is we would have to drop out of Europa League. Those are the rules apparently.

Because it apparently got rejected?
haha...no what i meant by that is the market was established as a bid another club was willing to make so it would be like Nice and Sir Jim were selling him at a reduced price

What a joke. They are making these rules up on the fly. There is simply no reason why Man United can't buy Todibo for example if we pay the same fee that is also agreed with let's say West Ham. So if Nice accept a fee from West Ham for 40m, and we agree the same, then what's the problem? It's still 40m regardless into Nice's accounts. They may want to claim the 40m into Nice's account is also 40m into INEOS's accounts and that can be used by Man United, but that's clearly not the case. A simple yearly audit of the accounts by UEFA can sort any discrepancy or suspicion.

"...Pre-exisiting transfer agreements..." Does that mean if we had agreed a contract before the end of the season, he would have been allowed to move to us?

No its to cover City signing Savio

This is the exact same rule that Aston Villa FC & Vitória Sport Clube; Brighton & Royal Union Saint-Gilloise; and AC Milan & Toulouse FC were forced to sign up to 12 months ago. It is standard practice now.

Girona and Nice have been placed into Trusts for 12 months. The rules in full:

• No one is simultaneously involved, directly or indirectly, in any capacity whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition; and

• No one has control or decisive influence over more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition.

More specifically, the significant changes made to the ownership, governance, and financial support of the concerned clubs, substantially restrict the investors’ influence and decision-making power over more than one club, ensuring compliance with the multi-club ownership rule during the 2024/25 season.

In particular, the concerned investors have transferred their shares in Girona FC and OGC Nice to independent trustees through a blind trust structure established under the supervision of the CFCB First Chamber. Such blind trust was accepted by the CFCB First Chamber on an exceptional basis for the 2024/25 UEFA competitions. The trustees will regularly exchange information with the CFCB First Chamber during the 2024/25 season.

As a result, the following applies at the level of Girona FC and OGC Nice for the 2024/25 season:

• the effective control and decision-making of these clubs rest solely under control of the trustee;

• following the resignation of its board members, the investor is no longer represented on the board of directors and has no capacity to directly appoint new directors to the board;

• the trustee appointed the new directors to the board;

• the investors have no ability to influence sporting related decisions;

• the investors have no ability to influence the club through veto rights or contractual arrangements entered into with other shareholders;

• the investors are restricted in their ability to provide subsequent financing;

• the club’s financial statements will be deconsolidated from the investors’ holding company.

Furthermore, as additional evidence of their independence, the concerned clubs committed to the following:

• the clubs will not transfer players to each other, whether permanently or on loan, directly or indirectly, from July 2024 until September 2025, with the exception of pre-existing transfer agreements that had been entered into before the opening of the CFCB proceedings;

• the clubs will not conclude any kind of cooperation, joint technical or commercial agreements between each other; and

• the clubs will not use any joint scouting or player database.

From 1 July 2025, the shares in Girona FC and OGC Nice will be transferred back to their respective investor.

Wonder how long we hear about how that lawyer we sent over got on. If City managed to get an expulsion from the CL overturned, surely we can get a player signed when the rules are a bit shit.

It doesn't make much sense to allow Nice and United to feature in the same European tournament but then not allow them to transfer players between each other, provided it meets the market value. If reshuffling some names on documents around is enough to satisfy the rules about being in the same competition, why isn't it enough satisfy transfers between the same two club.

Ideally they'd just ban all of it and be done with it but allowing one but not the other seems bizarre.

Wait, it stops us signing him before the 25/26 season as well?

I can understand the rules stopping us from signing him now, but they shouldn't have any impact on the following season (unless we end up in the same European competition again of course). I'm ambivalent towards fighting to sign him now, but if they are trying to stop us signing him for the following season then we absolutely should be taking that further as it's bullshit.

Troyes are still under the City Football Group umbrella. It's definitely sketchy.

Which is completely irrelevant for UEFA, because Troyes isn't competing in any of their tournaments.

Could United sign Todibo and register him for PL matches only this season?

It would basically be like the old transfer window would rule for UEFA matches before the domestic leagues instituted a closed summer window, like when United signed Silvestre in Sep 1999 but he couldn't feature in the CL until after the winter window. Obviously not the same reason but is the rule only against UEFA sactioned competitions?

The dates of that embargo would also rule out a transfer next season too, regardless of which European competition the clubs are in, so that doesn't seem to be the crucial factor after all, especially as UEFA have cleared the clubs to both play in the Europa League this season.

This has the potential to head into Bosman territory I think.

Why would he want to do that though?

Seems like the best we can do right now with the multi club ownership with Nice in europe is sending players on loan there. Any young players we sign that arent ready for United yet and players like Pellistri who is still young but doesnt seem like he's going to get games

I wish we can loan Anthony to Nice. Players like Pellestri aren’t getting a chance cause of ETH. He prefers Anthony even though he hasn’t done shit.

I would rather just stay away from this. The less we have in common with City, the better.

It’s one target, move on and look elsewhere

Sure, but not if it jeopardizes his career and gambling he can play in Europe with us is not exactly a wise career move.

How is it jeopardizing his career?

He'd be getting paid massively, likely be a regular in the first team, get to play at a huge club, likely get more exposure for NT selection, so forth.

West Ham are getting Kilman too right? Todibo - Kilman as a CB partnership looks excellent on paper, but do they really have the funds to spend £80m this summer solely on centre backs? You'd imagine just one plus Aguerd or Catman would be fine to allow them to spend the rest elsewhere.

Troyes isn't going to play in a UEFA competition for many, many years. They only saved their Ligue 2 spot because a club above them went bankrupt.

No.

Well why would we play someone week in week out in the league, only to take them out the side when we play in Europe. It's a daft move if can't play in Europe and I imagine he'd be advised the same.

Could they terminate his contract at Nice due to “disciplinary issues” then he move to United on a free. Not advocating they do that bit would it be within the rules?

Why would he want to do that though?
If we were really keen on him, not being able to play him in Europe for a year would not be so horrible. We have other defenders to slot in there.

I bet this would not be allowed either though. We simply would not be able to register him anywhere.

If it goes to September 2025, I imagine that means it's 2 years of no European football. Maybe 1.5 if we can register him Jan and that's not including the risk they come down on us for trying to flout it.
