Jean-Clair Todibo | signs for West Ham on loan with option to buy

https://www.downthewings.com/jean-c...ort-how-would-he-fit-in-at-manchester-united/

Todibo is an outstanding player and at only 23 years-old, he still has a few years of development left. One of Todibo’s biggest strengths is his ability on the ball. He is an extremely progressive player and is press-resistant. He therefore plays an important role in the first phase of build-up. So far during the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season so far, Todibo has averaged 5.47 progressive passes per 90 as well as 0.96 progressive carries per 90, which ranks him amongst the progressive centre-backs in France.

In addition to his fantastic ability on the ball, he is a fantastic tackler and has averaged 2.12 tackles per 90 so far in the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season. He is also a good 1v1 defender and is comfortable defending in wide areas. Todibo is also a very decent ground duel winner and is very good aerially, an aspect of his game that has massively improved this season. Last season in Ligue 1, he won 57% of his aerial duels however this season, he’s won 66% of his aerial duels — a significant improvement.
As I previously said, aerial duels are not his biggest strengths but the general view that he is useless in the air seems a bit blown out of proportions. IMO a better option than De Ligt.

fyi: The article is from February 2024

Should bring him in to partner Branthwaite/Inacio as Yoro clearly is only interested in waiting for Real

If the above tweet is true then this thread is exactly like the Boubacar Kamara thread from a couple of years ago.

A good player that half the caf had convinced themselves was an exceptional player and a must sign despite not being at that level.

Even though Kamara is better than every DM at United

Kamara strolls into our team ahead of Casemiro and Amrabat. What's really happening here is the club are obsessed with signing Branthwaite and ignoring more sensible deals in the process.

He is but the point is if he ends up at Villa he must not be as good as some on here have been saying for the last 6 months or so.

If he was a Maguire replacement I would be okay with that but we need a Varane replacement.

Good. Multi-club ownership needs to get in the bin and until then transfers between those clubs should be banned.

Anything that brings the integrity of the deal/matches into question is a massive slippery slope towards and pointless sport.

Load of shite. City have just bought Savio no?
Was just going to post this. Not just that, The City Group are constantly moving their players between teams, Savio was literally signed by Troyes (another City Group team), loaned to Girona without playing a minute of football in Ligue 2 and then signed by City from Troyes.
So in the space of a year and a half he's been on 3 of the City Groups teams books.

Loan him to United with obligation to buy? Sell him to Lausanne and then loan him to United with or without obligation to buy?

City are on the hook as well for the Sávio transfer. It's not official yet, anyways. Don't be surprised if UEFA prevents this transfer unless CFG find a loophole that other clubs can also exploit. Potentially, they'll argue that Sávio is owned by Troyes, who aren't in a European competition, so they can get away with bringing the player over to City.

Troyes is also a City Group team.
Fair enough. I didn't know that.

Wonder how these lot and RB teams can bounce around players amongst their 'sister' teams but as soon as we are trying to buy a player where the new owners we have are not even the full owners of the club it is a huge issue for everyone. Presumably they are going to raise this issue once the Roma owner buys Everton? Or these rules only apply to us?

This assumption is wrong. I remember I read the CFG gave up control on Girona's sporting decision.
That doesn't play a part in resolving the conflict of interest issues. CFG need to reduce their stake in Girona to below 30% for both clubs to compete in the CL. Regarding player transfers, the rules are stricter, so there's no way for any Girona player to join City for next season. Sávio, however, is currently in Troyes's books, so he can potentially get away with joining City even though he was on loan to Girona last season.

But not in the CL next season
So this is only an issue as both the clubs are going to be in the same European competition next season? Say, if we had qualified for CL it wouldn't be an issue?

If we were in the CL or ECL, then we may have gotten away with it, yeah. With that said, UEFA may even revise this part down the line.

Thanks. If only INEOS stopped Nice from qualify for Europa League. :smirk:

Milan and Toulouse were in different competitions last year but were still banned from buying or loaning players from each other.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. In that case, Nice/United had to not be in Europe for the Todibo transfer to be possible.

That’ll explain the active pursuit of Branthwaite.

Very disappointing that we won’t be doing a deal for him and Thuram.

Troyes arent in any European competition so dont full under these rules

Wasn't aware that Toulouse played in Europe last season, never mind...if that's what matters for the rules.

However, like other posters said, I'm pretty sure we can find a workaround if we really want him.
