Roma? That isn't really much of a step up?

It is actually. Rome is the capital of Italy, Roma's stadium holds almost double that of Palermo's, Roma have won a few Serie A titles and a couple of other cup competitions as well as reaching a European Cup final(a competition Palermo have never even qualified for). Roma aren't excactly a European giant or anything but they are still a significant step up from Palermo and it's a bit disrespectful to suggest otherwise.

Pastore would also have a significantly greater chance of Champions League football in the next few years if he made the move to Rome as well.

What it really shows to me is that paying big money for potential is even more of a gamble than paying big money for well established players. We have had Anderson for 3 or 4 years and if we were to sell him tomorrow i doubt whether we would even recoup our initial layout.

There are no guarantees of course, no matter who we buy, but when we consider back in 2007 £18m was considered very steep for potential, now we are talking £25 or £30m or even more, just for potential.

It would appear the values of these players rocket due more to media hype and speculation than on the strength of their performances and apart from the obvious 'money no object clubs', no-one in their right mind is going to pay £50-£60m for an untried kid no matter how much potential he is alleged to have.

If silly money is going to be required to capture Pastore and others like him, then imo we shouldn't even bother. The price tag, moving to other countries and the weight of expectation is surely a heavy burden for any youngster learning his trade, and i would expect the vast majority of youngsters not to flourish under such conditions.

pretty different type of potential in my opinion. Pastore has proven in top flight italian football to be one of the stars of the league. There are no doubts about what his best position. The only doubt is how he would adapt or perform at a big team.

Anderson was unrealized potential, supposedly attacking and a real threat. It turns out his best attributes are his energy and desire whilst his overall physical conditioning doesnt really match that.

I really rated him at first but his downfall has been somewhat dramatic. He can still be a class player i think but he needs something. Improved fitness and maybe the confidence and a roll that works better for him.

Amazingly it was his passing that really stood out for me at first, he has a great left foot and i'd really like to see that element of his game being more imposing.

That's the latest fecking thing he needs.

It would be a much bigger step up though, one that he should be aiming for, if he joined someone that has the chance of winning their domestic league on a regular basis and/or getting to the latter stages of the Champions League regularly.

Football | Serie A | Pastore: It's either Real or Barca | ESPNSTAR.com

Palermo maestro Javier Pastore has revealed that his dream is either to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a big-money move to either of the La Liga giants, and speaking to his official website, the Argentine revealed his inner thoughts.

Speaking to J A V I E R – P A S T O R E – El Flaco | Foto, video, news, tutto su Javier Pastore, the midfielder said: "I feel good here and I'm happy, I have a good relationship with everyone."

"Surely it's time to leave, but not now. Now my place is here", he assured Palermo fans.

However, Pastore also issued a disclaimer by declaring his love for both Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"What's true of me on the interest in Real Madrid and Barcelona?

"In reality there has been no formal offer yet from either company, but it would be a huge honor, a dream come true, you can play in either of the two teams. They are the best in the world. "

Pastore has scored 14 goals in 68 appearances for Palermo.

Why does he keep linking himself to Madrid? I mean at least Barca showed a little interest back in January. Its like Steve Mandanda linking himself to us.

I thought he wasn't going to move to sit on the bench?

Would he be first choice for either Barca or Real?

Either way, I have lost complete interest in this transfer saga, he really isn't joining us is he?

No, he's turned us down once already, and has made it perfectly clear he doesn't want to come to England.

Roma have got themselves a wealthy owner so they are a bit like City but with more tradition of winning, they might be doing well in the next few years so it should be a good move for Pastore.

Nothing like city, the new owners have already said to quell all the 'they're buying everyone' speculation, not to expect a spending spree, more a steadying of the ship.

They don't have to spend like City to be good. They are rich people and could probably afford an outlay of £100m+ over the next few years if the club needed investment, and it already has a decent core with the likes of De Rossi, Vucinic, Totti, Juan and Burdisso already at the club.

They've got a 50 million euro budget. Not disagreeing with what your saying just that they're not going to be able to compete for the big name players.

Javier Pastore’s agent Marcelo Simonian will not exclude a summer exit for the Palermo star.

Pastore, 21, has been linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter, Juventus and Roma, and while club president Maurizio Zamparini recently claimed he would not be sold, Simonian was not so sure.

Simonian said "no" when asked by Tuttomercatoweb as to whether he was 100 per cent sure of a stay at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

"Every player in the world has his price," he added.

"He was struggling for two months as he was plagued with fitness issues, but he’s in good shape now and is back at his [best] levels."

Palermo play Chievo in their final game of the season on Sunday evening in Serie A.

He's over his injury now and getting back into form. Barca and Inter leading the hase for him according to reports. Inter are apparently trying to sign both Sanchez and Pastore. That would be a hell of a summer deal.

Pastore could be sold

Palermo could sell Javier Pastore to balance books - ESPN Soccernet

Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed Javier Pastore could be on his way out of the cub this summer.

Argentina international Pastore, 21, has been linked with a number of clubs around Europe and his agent, Marcelo Simonian, said earlier this month: "I cannot confirm 100% that Javier Pastore will continue at Palermo. Every player has a price and we know that several clubs are interested in him."

Zamparini has now confirmed that he could cash in on Pastore, having previously valued the player at €60 million.

"Pastore is the only player who could leave," he told Radio Radio. "It all depends on the boy. He earns less than €1 million and if a big club offered him €4 million then it would be hard to keep him. Palermo can't afford that and we have to balance the books."

Zamparini has claimed AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona all want Pastore, and that one of the Italian clubs have already made a direct enquiry. Manchester United and Liverpool have also been linked with the player.

Always going to be sold by Palermo anyway. Milan might break the bank for him - Pirlo's replacement

We should be bidding for this caliber of player in my opinion; I've sat down and watched him about five times (I basically never watch football outside of United or Ireland) and he looks excellent.

He's been very incosnsitent when I've watched him this last year. He's either been terrible and a liability or an absolute genius.

He was brilliant last night against Inter. He ran the show with great drive, flair, incisive and genius passing - it being a lobbed or flat through ball, a Beckham inch accurate cross or just generally spotting the opening before anyone else.

Should have scored, mind you.

I've thought the same, the strangest part is that when he's looked up for it he's actually put a shift in for the team on multiple occasions, shown real desire to impose himself even when his team's not on the ball, yet he just seemed to lose all interest in the game completely if he's not on song.

If he goes to Barca, it means they either give up on Fabregas, or, they believe Pastore as the heir to Iniesta and Fabregas as the heir to Xavi. Basically, mentored by those two, these two could feasibly do that to some degree.

The bastards have it all planned out.

yeh, he plays high enough up the pitch - might not suit us in that sense with Rooney looking like staking a claim to be in there.

Interesting to see what'll happen with him anyway - can't see him staying at Palermo this summer

Iniesta only just turned 27 - if Pastore has plans of playing second fiddle for next 6/7 years or he isn't going to Barca

Iniesta's just hitting the peak of his career. And Xavi's game doesn't exactly rely on pace... He'll be playing for another four or five seasons yet, I'd wager.

Pastore would be going to replace the likes of Pedro, surely? He's the weakest link in their midfield/attacking formation. Maybe with a re-jig of their formation.

If he dreams of Real or Barca then why bother chasing him since he'll eventually pursue those dreams one day.

Barca won't be signing any midfielder not named Fabregas. Not when Thiago Alicantra and Julian Dos Santos are developing the way they are.

Even Fabregas is unlikely to be bought till Xavi is almost 33.

He actually looks like a Young Xavi :nervous:

If we sign the boy then we will return to the 4-2-3-1 system. He'll struggle in 4-4-2 system.

Yeah. I remember reading that he was out of contract and they didn't need/want him, or he wanted to leave or something.

Football premier-league: Palermo reject massive Chelsea offer for star man | Radio talkSPORT

Chelsea have had a £33m offer for Javier Pastore rejected, the Palermo president has claimed.

The 21-year-old winger is one of the most coveted players in Europe with Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all understood to be keen on doing a deal for him this summer.

But, speaking on Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, the club's president Maurizio Zamparini has revealed that the west London club have firmed up their interest with an offer - which was some way short of their asking price.

Zamparini said: "Chelsea was a club that we had a major offer from.

"But it did not reach the minimum figure that we set for a player of his quality.

"If someone wants to buy Pastore, the price is 50m (£44m).

"There are five or six clubs also interested, including Man City and big clubs from Spain and Italy but so far there has been nothing from them."
