You can also do a separate exercise: go back to all our games last season and check those we scored more than two goals. I think all of them bar one, maybe two, featured Chicha.

I mentioned it in a thread I started on whether we were fixing the wrong problems. RvP and Rooney are better players individually but we distinctly lack Chicha's movement in that pair. The defences push up, the midfielders press us, and we have a couple of 9.5s and a whole other bunch of players working in feck all space.

Spot on! Hernandez does so much without the ball that it's easy to miss. He should be playing more, no doubt.

Whisper it but to my mind both RVP and Rooney look better when paired with Hernandez than when paired with each other. Rooney and RVP have a similar problem to Rooney and Berbatov, their natural inclination to drift and to get involved does tend to compress rather than create space. Hernandez is not a better player than RVP or Rooney (or Berba for that matter) but he offers something different, something that gives them room to express their gifts.

Rooney and RVP have never linked up very well when played as a pair, arguably the best they've looked is when Rooney is being deployed out of position as a midfielder e.g. Aston Villa (H) last season. There have been games e.g. Stoke (H) last season when they both played well, but very rarely was it a case of them playing well together. Certainly I can't remember any game in which they've linked up as well as Rooney and Hernandez did during the 2010-11 Champions League last 8, for example. RVP certainly looked as comfortable (at least in an attacking sense) alongside Chico at Villa Park, at the JJB and at Hawthorns last year as he has with Rooney.

Spot on, and no need to whisper as many have said it recently. Same reason why Rooney and Berba also looked better with Hernandez and not each other. The retort usually is "but RvP and Rooney are our best players", which they are, just not a great partnership though so it isn't "mad" to suggest it should be one or the other (once we have ruled out Rooney the deep midfielder).

Good to see him on the scoresheet again, would be nice to see him get more minutes. He just scores goals for fun and in the end that is what we want our strikers to do.

Aye. But God forbid we drop a world class player.

The Rooney - Hernandez partnership got us to a champions league final lets not forget.

Really pleased to see him bag another brace, hope we can keep him happy as he's a valuable player to have in the squad.

Ian Ladyman called Chico 'dozy' in his match write up and claimed he was inconsistent. For a minute I thought he was writing about Bebe or something. A strike rate of 1 goal in every 2.3 matches doesn't seem inconsistent to me. He did praise Chico's predatory instincts but I don't get where he's seeing this dozy quality? Not saying Hernandez is Pele with the ball at his feet, he does make mistakes, but more times than not he's played well for United.

Well it's an easy one really - Ian Ladyman is an idiot.

This lad is really suited to our approach of bombarding the box with crosses. Very happy for him, wish he could have had a hat-trick but was pleased that started and finished the game.

It is about striking a balance with how much of a game time each of the first team strikers get and not upsetting the team's strategic objectives. Hopefully, the gaffer will start utilizing him more much like he did over the weekend.

I've only got 2 things to say really...

1) Cheech is simply amazing, in terms of the player and person he turned out to be (his attitude is a prime example of how a professional should behave)
and
2) If he ever leaves this club (before 34/35 atleast) I'll never forgive whoever's to blame for it. Definitely one of my favorite players.

He's well on course to becoming one of my favourite ever United players. Love him.

He needs to leave United. He is simply too good to spend his career on the bench, regardless of how good the team may be. He would excel in any team. He would be absolutely brutal at Barca with his movement and other's vision. He's also the only United player I really like.

You are not having our little pea. I would be seriously gutted if he went to Chelsea.

As much as I'd love him, not a chance he would go to Chelsea. Arsenal are the only Premiership team with a chance as you must owe Arsenal something for RVP. Even still I doubt you'd sell to them.

We owe them nothing, it's not like RVP cost peanuts or something. The club made a proper investment for a player of his age at the time.

We owe Arsenal sweet feck all, by that logic, City should sell them 5 of their players.

You know hence the term I doubt you'd sell to them. They're the team most likely to get him out of any premiership team. Doesn't mean I think it would happen.

Its still a ridiculous thing to say.

It's obviously a wee bit tongue in cheek. United fans banged on for ages about how Everton had no right to be annoyed about Moyes leaving as United had done Everton favours by selling players cheap.

Well it is true, they didn't have a right to be so pissed off, and they shouldn't be so pissed off that we have tried to and have taken some of their players. City took Lescott, Tottenham Pienaar (for a while) etc, its what happens.

Passive aggressive retweeting from Chicha?

I'll understand if he wants to leave, but please not another Prem club.

I'll be sad to see him go but if he wants first team football he may as well because he won't get it here. Rightly so too IMO.

He has to start Tuesday, I'd be pissed off If I had scored 3 goals including 2 winners in 2 games and been benched straight away. Hopefully he knows it was so he can play on Tuesday.

I love Hernandez but he was never going to start ahead of RVP. RVP is a better player and it's not he hasn't been scoring goals either. Moyes' decision was vindicated anyway.

Good chance he'd have got on yesterday had it not been for the three injury worries at half time. Hopefully Moyes can reassure him.

Would like him to get more game time, but with Rooney and RVP it's difficult to see when he will get games.
