Could have been a game that caused him to go backwards with the chances he missed/was denied but getting there in the end should have the opposite effect.

Big goal at the end, after missing a couple of earlier chances. Great to see the smile on his face.

Another big goal. Love him!

He seemed to appear out of nowhere! When Carrick chipped the ball into the box I was cursing thinking why give it away with an aimless cross and then in the blink of an eye Chico was there. When I saw the replay of how fast he spun off his marker to get into that space...is there anyone else in the league who has that kinda movement?

Did well to be in so many good positions. Any other player and they wouldn't even have had some of the chances he had. Great goal in the end. Love him, one of the few players who went on and on and kept his head up looking for the next sniff.

He's a natural goalscorer by definition. Give him proper service and with movement he'll score.

Missed some, but scored the winner.

Great that he scored, don't think he had the best of games though, particularly first half. Seems to fluctuate quite a lot in his ability outside the box but still got the goal when it mattered, as long as he does that he can afford a poor performance.

Non league striker? Some of you, I swear...

Granted his overall play was pretty dissapointing but he got into so many great positions, he has goals written all over him. Should have scored the header but made up for it with his winner

He looked dangerous, and another thing that i have noticed this season is his touch and link up play has improved massively.

I think it still fluctuates massively, he can be really prone to over/under hitting passes and general poor use of the ball. Think his touch has got better though.

Jaysus, if he didn't net the winner, which he took very well by the way, he'd have been shot. That missed header could have put us in the shit...

So unlike him to miss those chances. Glad he scored at the end

Definitely, I'd expect Rooney, Welbeck, even Van Persie to miss a few before scoring but if we're getting one chance in the entire game, I want it to fall to Hernandez before anyone else. He's our most lethal finisher, so unlike him to miss chance after chance today.

That's a fair point a lot of the chances he gets are down to his movement and opportunism, which always has you on a knife-edge. You are bound to miss quite a few, which is fine so long as you score enough ;)

Whenever he scores, the first person to come to him always gets the biggest hugs. :)

Big test coming up for him if Rooney is out for a coupe of weeks. Hope his late winner sparks his predatory instincts as he was out of sync for most of the game today.

Still, its a wonderful testament to his character that he was still running in the 90th minute after some glaring misses to score a very difficult and match winning goal. He can sleep well tonight.

I love him. He has a never dying attitude, he scores goals, he scores important goals regardless if he starts or comes as a sub. A great player.

He is still a better option coming off the bench. He made lots of basic errors in his play today, from mistiming simple passes then giving the ball away instead of holding it up. It's quite common when he starts, but he is much more of a threat coming on later in a game. I can't think of many games he's started and done really well in. The Braga home game was the best I've ever seen him play, but apart from that...

He was shit but credit to him for not giving up. As for now, I agree that he can do more damage coming off the bench. Plus, I am not sure he and RvP are the perfect partnership

Gotta love his spirit. He never stopped trying. That missed header would have destroyed anyone's morale, it was that bad.

Clearly he was just biding his time... he knew we would have probably conceded again had he scored earlier on... so he figured he would wait until stoppage time to grab the winner.

He scores when he wants does our Chico!

His enthusiasm to get involved early was what cost us the first goal, - too the ball of Smalling and hit it to hard back to Carrick who couldn't control it. Still, he put in one hell of a shift and was completely shattered after grabbing the winner.

What a player/personality to have on the team.

OGS reincarnated. Just seems to be able to find that crucial goal when we need it the most. Even when he is playing absolutely shite and has missed numerous chances.

Annoyed me when he rounded the goalkeeper and took an age to finish.

Love his attitude though. It's players like him, RVP and Rafael that gives this team that character to keep on scoring late goals.

Was a much better player in every sense, and he was a damn good winger when asked to fill out there.

While I love Hernandez' attitude, he's got a way to go to top Olegend

Why? He couldn't have finished from where he was after rounding the keeper, and seeing as in the end it was insignificant I'm kind of glad he did it, I think it shows a lot about him that he was still looking for team-mates in a position where he could have attempted what would have probably been a missed shot. If he was going to score from there, he should have dinked it over the keeper at the first opportunity.

Like a true finisher if he misses a chance, he'll still be confident for the next one.

Great finish as we've come to expect in the last minute.

He'll get a decent total this year, even if he does have to wait for his chances patiently.

With Rooney out, VP surely not playing every game, and Welbeck a bit out of favour and form, and now this illness, could be time to step up.

There are some players who never get criticism no matter what, and there are others, like Hernandez, who are criticised the minute they don't deliver. It was like that for Ole in the early years. If he didn't score, he was rubbish, whilst Dwight Yorke went three months without a goal and no-one complained.

It's quite unfair tbh.

To be fair Yorkie had a lot more to his games than goals which definitely counts some way.

That's true, although Yorke was far more experienced, but my point is still valid - some players seem above criticism, others get it the minute they 'fail'.

4-4-2 in the modern game implies 2 complete forwards who can take part in the build-up of play, making up for the lacking midfielder (as most other formations will line up with 5) as well as finishing actions.

We can and should go with 4-4-2 when both Rooney and RVP are available, but not with any other combination. Chicharito is just not good enough in terms of dropping deep and vision outside the box. He can be used as a lone striker in a 4-5-1 but we won't cut it against a top formation with a 4-4-2 that includes him - cf the UCL final where he was pretty much invisible.

Chicharito is not getting any unfair stick, he's actually quite popular with the United & RedCafe fanbase if you ask me.

The problem is that he isn't spectacular the way some of our other forwards are, and sometimes makes the bizarre first touch or pass which gives away his shortage of basic football grooming (did he even go through a proper academy?), but everyone appreciates his killer instinct in front of the goal.
