However talented these 4 might be we really will need to bring in a new striker now

Depends if we decide to stick with our youngsters and help push them through, sitting on a massive amount of cash if things go wrong. If we did decide to do that, then our aim would be for a top 4 finish and a run in the cups. Then once they've had a few seasons together start to push for the title, with a massive war chest ready for the next manager.

This is the only crumb of comfort I can take from the shit that has erupted this afternoon. Hernandez looks like a guy that wants to seize every oppourtunity to play his best and it appears his big chance has come. More playing time for Berba and Chica to gell has to be good news. Viva Mexico!!!

The world would stop turning long before that if United didn't push for the title for a few seasons. They might get the rest of this season though.

A young team won't be able to contend with the machine of Chelsea currently, just look at Arsenal for reference. But we have some excellent young players at the club and in my mind, they deserve a chance before we spunk millions of pounds.

I think we will. We'll buy one of these in vogue front men that can operate wide or up front - Aguero.

That's the only "positive" thing about this entire Rooney affair. Surely we're going to have to go out and buy someone to replace him.

Yet finding it hard to believe bloody hell

No we don't. Watch the video of Rooney's goals from last season then watch Youtube clips of Hernandez in action. Hernandez can replace Rooney's goals because the vast majority of them were relatively simple first time finishes due to being stood in the right place.

Even without taking penalties, Hernandez can get 20+ goals for us this season so long as Nani and Valencia's replacement (Obertan/Bebe/Park/Giggs ?) keep firing in quality crosses.

Next season bring back Welbeck and Diouf and perhaps let Owen go depending on how he does this season.

I agree, we need a midfielder not another striker

The Rooney cash must be used to sort out our first choice midfield and make it indisputably world class again.

My only concern is who do we get? In a 442 there arent many i feel will be suited to that role, you look at Snijder or Goucuff and they play more a AMF in a 433. Still its the area we need to sort out so lets see who (if anyone) we get

We can go 4-3-3. We can get in Snejdier or Hamsik. A second classy attacking midfielder like Pastore/Defour to support him. Then a Rodwell to cover Fletcher.

I'd like to see a Paul Ince type player arrive (even if he's just a poor man's Paul Ince) so we could play 442 and be confident we have enough metal in the midfield as well as a good deal of creativity. The best I've seen that we could realistically get would be De Rossi, but perhaps this Defour chap that everyone raves about is a better bet.

Random muppetry: Banega, Schweinsteiger, Pastore. Maybe even Kaka if Rooney ends up with Madrid?

I'd also like to see an experienced leader come in. The squad minus Giggs, Scholes and Rooney would miss a lot of leadership and experience. I can't think of any suitable examples off the top of my head.

I echo these sentiments. Berbarito has the makings of a great strike pairing.

Sky is reporting a 56m euro deal + Benzema for Rooney. They better send that offer via courier if they want their arm back!

I wouldn't mind Benzema as he's both quick and physical, which neither Hernandez and Berbatov can boast to be, plus he can play wide, a role in which Hernandez and Macheda have both looked unimpressive. I wouldn't want a striker in the Torres mould though, as I think we're well stocked on centre forwards who are centre forwards and not much else.

Probably not the time to discuss transfer targets but Banega, Pastore and Schweinsteiger would cost a vast, vast amount of money. Not even a faint chance of that. Or did you mean only one of them?

Havent seen the other 2 player but Schweinsteiger might be the answer, for Germany he did that role really well. Along side a defensive minded player he'd be exactly what we need! Always did like Kaka but with his injury track record lately i dont think its likely

step up little green pea, and stake your claim as a future United Legend.

The big ugly green ogre has left the building.

It'd take it and run. Sadly, it'll probably turn out to be 6 million + Benzema.
