His shots go goals ratio in Mexico in his last season was 1 goal every 3.2 shots. That's pretty clinical. He kept that up for Mexico this summer with 1 in 3 exactly(inc. friendlies). Rooney had 1 in 5.2 last season, for comparison.

Interesting. Maybe he's more clinical than what I've seen from him so far? Could be just over-excitement at his big move to United making him snatch at chances. The same reason Diouf made such a hilarious bollox of that headed chance in his opening game.

What, you mean apart from missing an open goal in a pre-WC friendly for Mexico, the two chances he missed when clean through on goal in the Chivas game, the shanked left foot shot from a Berbatov cut back and kicking the ball into his own face?

He's got two very good feet and the potential to score bags of goals but a composed finisher he is not. Not yet anyway.

These are very few and far between, especially when you take into account his age and the little exposure he has had to top top class football, his finishing ability is very good for one that young.

He's obviously going to be a tad nervous, that cut back from Berba was one of the first chances he had during the game and he mishit it, big deal.. Scholes mishit a volley in the first half, doesn't mean he isn't one of the composed volleyers the game has ever seen.

With Andy Cole, you always had the feeling he needed plenty of chances, I never felt comfortable watching him go one on one even though I greatly admired him as a United player.. whereas with someone like Ruud, you thought.. he's lost his man, its bound to be a goal.

Hernandez, the vibe you get when he is in space is that he'll more likely than not score, I'd say he looks very clinical to me in the little I've seen him (world cup, pre season) and yes there will be a few misses along the way that much is normal but once he adapts to the premier league this lad will be reknowned as one of the best finishers in the league and not the next andy cole.

But Pogue, have you not seen the Youtbube videos?

For what it's worth (absolutely feck all) I think he has the makings of a good finisher. He has the pace and the great movement to get him into fantastic scoring positions, and you'd only need to be a competent finisher to conver the chances that'll come to him.

His shooting technique isn't bad - he can hit the ball with a bit of 'zip' on it and not much backlift. Just needs to cool his head a bit in front of the net and the goals will come.

He's got a 100% scoring record in matches that we've played in with him :nervous:

Does he remind anyone else of Saha?

Inzaghi never really had that much pace, Owen is the easiest person to compare to.

Not the original owen but the one circa 2001-2004, the fox in the box Owen.

Original Owen was leagues ahead of Hernandez, he was a potential BPITW.. sensational talent.

I think you're right to an extent, when he misses chances he generally misses them in a bad way, and the stats obviously need a lot to take into consideration considering the quality of the league and the style of attacker he is, but I do think he's a bit more clinical than what you've given him credit for. He's no Ole, I agree with you on that, but he's surprisingly clinical for such a young lad(even if we go on the assumption finishing relies mainly on instinct). Michael Owen for comparison scored 9 goals in 33 shots last season.

Look like he said the "fans are fat"

Although my lip-reading skills have been a bit off lately.

Weird uae.Saha was a very physical player, Hernandez seems more subtle in his game.

Well yeah he obviously lacks Saha's physicality at the moment, but i'd expect him to bulk up over the season anyway. I meant more in terms of playing style. Both very quick, two footed, really stretch defences with their pace and both can also play a bit as well.

I think the one thing you can say about the lad is he gets people on their feet. When he gets the ball, you sense excitement.

I do think he'll do great for us.

He reminded me of a mix between Owen and Saha from the start, when people were saying "He looks like a new Forlan!" it made more sense to me to compare him to Saha, as he has a huge leap ala Cahill/Saha and unlike Forlan he isnt likely to smash one of every two shots from 20 yards into the corner of the net.

God no!:nono:

He'd never make it past the entrance without pulling a muscle

^ Badge kissing has lost its meaning with so many players doing it anyway. He isn't the first to do so and surely won't be the last in football
