I'm not sure, I haven't seen every Ajax match this season. I think he's a good keeper, but he's 26 and has been benched alot of seasons. He's not fazed by pressure at all, which is good, but he's prone to some silly errors. Going by what he said I think he wants to stay for his development, I don't think he's better than Valdes right now and not as talented as other young goalkeepers. Hoek/LvG might see more in him, but I haven't seen enough and I doubt it.
I've pretty much seen all Ajax matches this season. I agree wit everything you just wrote. He's very composed and does not feel the pressure at all. Having said that, he's just not United quality (yet, if ever). He makes some silly errors, can't save a penalty if the fate of the entire universe depended on it and is not that quick to come off his line, which seems quite important in our style of playing now. So I'd say no to him.

Looks ever increasingly like this could be our number 2 to Valdes.

Only played 100 senior club games

Here's a YouTube comp of last season's better saves.

Unless it's Lloris people might be surprised by what keeper van Gaal is going to get. The reason Cillessen played at the worldcup is that he's better with his feet than Vorm/Krul, but he's not really a sweeper keeper. He's a good goalkeeper and had a great season but I can't see him leaving Ajax right now. No need to get stressed about this guy as he doesn't fit van Gaal's keeper profile like Valdes does, I seriously doubt we're after him and Ajax/Cillessen dismissed rumours before.

Probably the least exciting rumor so far this cille seassen. He seems solid with the ball at his feet and I've seen a few people describe him as mentally strong, but all in all there are better options out there.

Seemed a good if not spectacular keeper in the WC. Still only young for a GK too so can be understudy to Valdes for a couple years.

I don't see us spending a lot on a #1 when we've much to spend in other areas.

This makes sense.

We wont spend more money on Lloris then we would recieve for De Gea. Just wouldn't seem right. We have Valdes who is proven at this level and deserves a chance in the first team to prove that we don't need to spend big on another keeper.

Cillessen would provide very good back up next season and push Valdes for a starting spot. If at the end of next season niether of them have impressed then buy a new keeper then when Valdes's contract expire.

Agreed. It could actually work very well. But still I believe that there are some great young foreign keeper talents we could buy instead.

We would just end up with two keepers neither of whom are actually much good, cillessen is a very average keeper and I would be shocked if we signed him, I think he would cost quite a lot as well especially to be a backup. Surely it is just a lazy rumour based on fact he played at World Cup just like all the other Dutch players LVG supposedly wanted.

Stuff of nightmares. I cant believe people saying if he is good enough for van Gaal than he is for me.

He isnt good enough, for anybody. Braafheid was also good enough for van Gaal at Bayern, failed miserably.

Valdes and Cillessen going into next season would be a massive problem, not ready for the PL both of them.

LVG needs putting in a retirement home if this deal goes through.

I'd be delighted if we don't sign him, Johnstone would be much better back up and we should sign no1 goalkeeper, really don't want Valdes. Either Cech or Lloris or well I have no idea who'approachable and good enough but we might wait one year, just say feck off to real and keep david for one more year and than sign Leno or some other young goalkeeper being better in one year than now. We don't really need money, we need to show balls in transfer market.

Best way would be convince ddg to sign and sell him for 50 next year..finding a good replacement for him meanwhile

What have I missed? Why do people think we're signing him?

I think because of some telegraph tweet.
Seeing the reaction here I thought it was solid information. In any case, don't want him. And actually don't believe this rumour.

If we decide to go with Valdes next season, which, for now, I can't see us doing, it'd make no sense to spend significant money on a back-up. Lindegaard's more than capable of filling that role, has a year left on his contract and seems perfectly happy to stay. Furthermore, we wouldn't be left with two goalies completely unfamiliar with the league.

Why can't we just get Leno or Cech instead? I don't understand this club sometimes, we often don't seem to show any interest in obvious choices.

I would be disappointed if we signed him. He was ok at the World Cup but nothing more than that.

You forget that van Gaal signed Valdes because he didn't like Lindegaard. He's going to leave and even if Valdes is first choice we'll need backup.

we've probably leaked this to the press so that if we're really moving for Cech/Lloris/someone else, they realise we have other options

Not nearly good enough to be a starter. If we sign Valdes is our number one.

You seem to believe that rumor, why?

Im just wondering how many of you have seen him play reguraly when claiming he is a sack of shite.

I'd say it's perfectly fair to judge him on his WC performances and CL performances - as they're the biggest games (by far) that he's taken part in.

In that case he has been very good during the world cup and mostly good in the CL.

He wasn't? Can you expend on that?

He was shaky, his handling was poor, and he didn't appear to have much of a command over his defence. Oh and he got subbed for a penalty shootout...

If you consider that I'd say 95% of opinions on the Caf were formed at the WC, why do you think so many people have a poor opinion of him?
