Jonas Hofmann won the battle for the starting spot in attacking midfield against Krasnodar.

BVB: Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Hummels, Bender, Schmelzer, Weigl, Gündogan, Hofmann, Castro, Mkhitaryan, Ramos

The obvious and sensible decision really. They don't get anything from developing januzaj for us.

i liked januzaj perhaps as a result of how good he was in the midst of the shit season we endured under moyes two years ago.

but after watching yet another terrible performance today where we didn't lose, but didn't win either, i'm trying to figure out what i got more enjoyment from: watching a poor united side that at least had entertaining aspects to it under moyes or this incarnation where we somehow are near the top of the league with pretty much nothing by way of entertainment.

Excuse me, but did you forget that Fulham game ?

I wasn't against the idea of a loan move but Dortmund was a stupid choice. It's going to set him back a whole year.

I guess those people who said LVG had sent him to Dortmund to teach him a lesson were wrong. LVG wanted him to go to a lesser premier league team where he'd play every game but Adnan chose Dortmund.

The question to me is why Adnan chose Dortmund. Neither he nor his agent or his father could have been that delusional to expect him breaking into our attack, i.e. as he had no pre-season with the team, and this is an important time to impress the national coaches for the Euro 2016.
Europa League games alone can hardly be a reason to chose Dortmund for a loan move.

If we can bring him back early then we absolutely should. That said, just because he may be a better option over players currently in the first 11 doesn't actually mean he'll get on the pitch under van gaal.

FFS if he's not going to start meaningless EL games when they're already qualified, bring him back here because some of our players are blowing out their asses already.

It's good that he's training under a good manager and getting to see great players, but I still wish he was playing 90 minutes every week for a mid-table or normal Europa league level side in Germany, Spain, England or France that needs a RW or 10.

As for his appearance yesterday, the run in behind where he kicks the keeper and that lovely pass to Schmelzer are 2 of the main things a RW needs to be productive. Until we sign someone, I think he's still the favorite for that spot long-term.

Just for the records: Januzaj on the bench against Stuttgart.
XI: Bürki, Bender, Gündogan, Mkhitaryan, Reus, Aubameyang, Kagawa, Sokratis, Piszczek, Castro, Schmelzer
bench: Weidenfeller, Januzaj, Ginter, Hummels, Hofmann, Ramos, Weigl

Hummels, Weigl and Ginter benched?

I'm not convinced this is the only reason. IIRC, Hummels has been the only BVB player who has been playing every single game of this season so far: Europa League qualification + group stage matches (4+5), Bundesliga (13), cup matches (2). On top of that at least 2 if not more matches for the national team. He needed a break anyway, kill-two-birds-with-one-stone-approach.

But if he needed a break why not give it to him vs Krasnodar instead?

I guess because Tuchel didn't want to have Gündogan as the only pillar for our build-up play on the field; we had already Kagawa left at home who was exhausted from his NT travel.

damn. not looking good for United in General :-(
Januzaj had a bad game. We have been quite woeful. Gary lost his first home match with valencia.
hmm. We need a Neymar signing to cheer us up.

I thought he was awful. His performances are significantly worse now than they were at the start of his time at Dortmund, he still looks totally out of sync with the rest of the team and his decision making continues to be highly questionable.

GF is from near Dortmund , was reading out the match ratings a newspaper website gave each player for yesterday's game, they rank players from 1 to 5, where 1 is the best mark and 5 the worst (don't ask me, ze crazy Germans, etc)

Januzaj got 5.5, which I suppose is like getting -1 on a 1 to 10 rating. If its any consolation, Reus got 5.

Feel genuinely gutted for this lad and how everything seems to have gone over the last two years. Ive seen him a bit for Dortmund this season and he has not been good. I don't know why he went out on loan and I cannot see why he should stay out now given how little he plays there and how bad he plays when he does. It looks like his confidence has gone through the floor.

Dunno. Most of the time he looked genuinely promising when playing for Dortmund, but Yesterday he seemed a bit shit to me. Maybe he'll do better after the winter break and a full pre season.

:D That'staken from school ratings.
There you have six marks, 1 the best, 6 the worst. If you have a 5 (or 6) in two or more subjects at the end of a school year, you have to repeat the entire year.

I feel a bit sorry too but in the end, it was his decision to join us and he faces the consequences now. When he joined, I was certain that we were interested to lure him permanently to us but meanwhile I think we'll go for another target.

I really hope that is not with you lot. He has a lot of potential and is still very young. He will get a shot here.

Seems like he isn't applying himself enough and is too comfortable. Potential attitude problem if that is the case.

He was terrible yesterday. Really bad. Unrecognisably.

Only thing was that he did keep trying. Failed each time, but wanted the ball.

Kid's got an attitude problem. Not necessarily arrogance or something but he's just soft. Needs to work harder to maximise his potential.

Would like to see him back here soon.

Going by yesterdays performance, he isn't getting in our starting eleven now. Certainly not over lingard martial Memphis and mata. He has gone backwards in development. He made a wrong choice in Dortmund.
