January Transfer Window

I can't really see many leaving. If you think of the group that are to put it politely, undervalued by the current manager, some are injured, others are cup-tied in Europe.

Not this transfer window, certainly. If we underperform for the whole season then I could see Moyes being quite ruthless in the summer.

I do kind of agree with walrus that welbeck did need a loan for one more season. When rvp is back he won't be getting games as a striker and it will go right back to what it was like. It's not like we're short on options in that position. It won't happen now of course, but IMO we should've sent him on loan last season when we signed van Persie rather then feck about with him because last season did him pretty much no good, instead if developing as a striker somewhere leading the line week in, week out.

I suspect that Robin will be absent quite a lot this season and so Danny will get plenty game time in his favoured position.I agree that last season he would have benefitted from another loan spell but that's not going to happen now.I would like to think that his days of playing wide are now over.If Robin is fit then he should start from the bench, and he and Robin should be rotated perhaps with Robins fitness and Danny's development in mind.

trouble is that Welbeck isnt a striker I feel we can rely on. He is rather inconsistent and his finishing is generally quite poor. I am all for developing youngsters and would like him to get the gametime, but can we really afford to do that given our league position? If it came down to making the top 4 and not playing Welbeck, or playing Welbeck and NOT making the top 4, I think we would have to choose the former (I know it isnt as black and white as that). Obviously if we have injuries to RVP, Rooney and Hernandez then he would get games, but I would prefer any of those three up front (in Rooneys case this would presumably mean Kagawa as #10) to Welbeck at the moment.

I hope he does a Sturridge and proves me wrong, but again I will reference the likes of Sturridge and Lukaku as young strikers who have had gametime and blossomed as a result.

Whatever happens in this window, I just hope it doesn't play out in the media spotlight. If we are to do a deal, the first thing I want to hear about it is hopefully 1 hour before it is done. I don't want weeks of this bid for this player and talks with that player.

If you don't watch Sky Sports News or read the papers it very rarely does play out that way.

The caf is very subdued considering the transfer window opens next week.Have we given up? Is it a good sign that there is little to feed on? I need a fix but Koke seems the most likely deal and there i9s fecking zero chance of him joining.Let's hope we are pleasantly surprised and that Woody pulls a masterstroke out of the bag!

the problem is, it's in the interests of any agents to make our interest in any of their players public, to invite other clubs to enter the bidding.
Players we're interested in will generally interest the other top teams.

Except for Fellaini, but let' not start that again!

I think I would rather stick with what we've got than make some rash desperation signing and sort things out in the summer.

I want one Gundogan, one of either Koke/Herrera and one of either Luke Shaw/Coentrao. I'm already in full muppet mode.

Agree. Why would Atletico sell to us? They are having a great season and unless the player pushes for transfer then i see no reason for this transfer to happen. Still more likely.than the Fabregas deal.....still cannot belive we made a bid

I think we'll sign someone. I don't personally mind if the player will be cup-tied in Europe as I'm quite happy with the CL squad we have going at the moment. Sounds odd saying that, but I don't feel the need to sign a player that'll help us in Europe this season, at least it shouldn't be our main priority is what I'm trying to say.

With that being said, I'm sure the player who'll have to sacrifice CL football for the remainder of the season won't be fine with that.

A center midfielder and a left back.

I'm only just warming up. Ribeiro is on my approved list for January transfers.

I'll be honest, I can't wait to check this website and see the twitter thread being high on the most recent commented list. It always gets me going.

I don't think we'll sign anyone. I suspect we'll baulk at the £20m odd Everton want for Baines and beyond that we won't be able to get any top players out of their clubs at this stage of the season.

I think we will. It's not like the summer is going to be much easier for transfers, especially if we don't make Top 4...

The right couple of signings really could give us a boost and let us target the title rather than 4th. I think that will be the clubs aim.

I always think the "cup tied in Europe" thing is most bizarre.

By January, you might only have a couple more games left in Europe, so to put off signing someone, who could play in your other 25 games, for the sake of 2-4 Euro games seems mad.

It is mad. As far as the club goes, it means feck all. You don't invest for the first 6 months, but for the years ahead.

Likely.

The fact we're hitting a bit of form at the moment may also leave Moyes a bit more apprehensive in approaching any deals.

But we'll get close to signing someone, which is what matters. And he'll be a top, top, top player that we just barely miss out on at the end.

I reckon Reus is the one we might surprise people with, he'd improve us greatly. I think he's attainable in January if we stump the cash up. Gundogan will never happen as he will be off to Madrid in the summer and Koke is going nowhere in January.

Getting Reus would again not solve the main problem but he'd give us firepower from out wide, which we clearly lack. We are so reliant on Rooney and RVP to score and create it's just not funny anymore. He'd be instantly one of the best players at the club (and the league) and hopefully his sheer quality would give everyone else a lift.

Honegstein (sp?) has said there's no chance of Reus moving til 2015. I don't see any chance of him leaving either.

Why would Reus leave Dortmund in January? No chance until next summer.

What cash? The rumored 48 Mil € from the Mail article? That is not even remotely enough. Real Madrid made a 50 Mil € offer in the summer, which was shot down instantly. Getting Dortmund, who have no pressure in this matter, to sell him in the middle of the season would take a sum, which United will never be ready to pay for.

If Reus leaves Dortmund, it will most likely be in 2015 with his release clause (35 Mil €). He may be in a slump right now, but having a matchwinner like Reus in the squad is worth way more than a potential 15 Mil € extra.

With Fletcher back.Moyes will feel more relaxed about bringing a CM in.Can see this as a pretty quiet transfer window.

That's what I fear. As if Fletcher will improve our creativity spark.

Barkley unlikely (if Moyes wants him) because Everton can hold out for an auction in the summer and, for all the form, he is a promising player as opposed to a "top, elite" player. The "top, elite" types will unlikely want to jeopardise their place in their respective national sides with a risky Jan move. Guess a Vidic/Evra type long-term low key buy is possible.

I just think loan is a most likely deal because it is risk free and relatively cheap. Just trying to think of quality players not getting games...

Just guessing, mind...

Other than to cover for injuries I don't see us doing loan deals. We never really have done and it's difficult to find players who are good enough for us but who would also be available from their clubs. The Coentrao bid in the summer was the exception as we seemed to get ourselves into a position where we knew we weren't going to get Baines and had to try to get something done at short notice. With the amount of time we've had to plan I wouldn't expect us to bring someone in on a short term deal.

No value in the market, Moyes signed late, January sales are not ideal, the WC.....if only our team is as creative on the pitch as our money men are in finding excuses. We would be better by Barcelona by now.
