January Transfer Window

With a the Baines talk do people think Evra is on the way out? Baines isn't much younger than Evra so whilst he is a good player I would sooner see us get a younger player like Shaw - although that depends on price.
Frankly I would rather see Fabio given a chance but there you go.

In CM I'm not really sure what the options are. Without getting too far into the "2 man midfield" argument we need a good all round player who can do their shift defensively as well as offer something in attack. Whilst I do see this as the priority, I would order us waiting until next summer if it means getting a quality player, as opposed to a January panic buy.

If we can offload any of Buttner, Anderson and Young then all the better. Welbeck out on loan wouldn't be a bad shout for us either.

I have a feeling this is going to be one of the most important January windows we've seen in the league and we will see clubs willing to pay the January premium. With the way the top of the table is shaping up, a successful signing by any of the top clubs could dramatically change things. Imagine if Chelsea signed a striker who came right in and started scoring goals; that's a potential championship signing right there. Likewise if we managed to get a creative midfielder.

Don't know what to make of this window. If we haven't signed anybody within the first week then I'm going to assume we're not signing anyone at all. If we're fecking around with daft bids by that point then it'll be clear that Woodward has learned nothing at all.

Completely agree. Very true about the Chelsea bit too. It'll be worrying if they actually had someone in attack who could consistently score for them.
If we managed to get a creative spark or two, then I'd say we'd be sorted for the second half of the season - and that even includes Baines. He'd create a feck load of chances for us from left back - his delivery at a dead ball or in general play would be sublime.

At 30, Baines doesn't make any sense. He's hardly the last piece in the jigsaw.

I've never been a huge fan of Baines and certainly wouldn't pick him ahead of Paddy. But the age thing is a concern especially as there's a policy in place to recruit younger players; at least there used to be.

According to recent reports Moyes seem more inclined in giving loaned players a chance (Powell, Jesse and co)

The obvious reasons for signing Baines over a younger LB are that a) Moyes knows him, b) he is a low risk signing and c) he is experienced. We're going to be replacing Giggs, Ferdinand, Evra and Vidic over the next few seasons. Carrick won't be around forever either and there are still question marks over Rooney's future. That's a lot of leadership and experience potentially leaving the club in a short space of time. Add the fact that we have other positions we need to seriously strengthen and maybe a safe, reliable, experienced signing at LB makes sense? At least with Baines we could expect a seamless transition into the side.

Why are you claiming that he is 30? He turned 29 on the the 11th Dec. if we can get for 12 million I would be happy

Everton are competing with us for 4th place. There is no conceivable way they will sell Baines for £12m under these circumstances. He'd cost much closer to £20m. Moyes knows the story and the price. Not sure whether Moyes will get his way in the market.

what a waste if we get closer to the £20M for Baines

Eugenio Mena, left fullback from chile national team (assisted Alexis for his fist goal at WEmbley vs England), selected in the America best team from 2012, 25 years old (july 88) and getting better and better now that he plays in Brasil (Santos), land of the best fullbacks... well, Santos paid £1.8M for him... why our scouts can't look for good deals like this? just one example... there are probably a lot of cheaper and better options than Baines out there.

Eugenio Mena is a beast, he's fecking magnificent.

We've traditionally done well getting great full-backs for little or no money too. What did Irwin, Neville, Evra and Rafael cost in total... about £6m, nearly all of which was Evra?

Baines as old as as Evra? He's 3 and a half years younger! A huge amount in footballer years!

Send Welbeck on loan!? fecking hell!

Top class muppetry there.

Medel is a midfielder, no? Always strikes me as a total donkey with not much on his side but his incredible bulk.

That's right, he's fat, I said it.

Midfielder but for Chile plays as Stopper/central defender. In South Africa 2010 he was the central defender that recovered more balls and with the highest pass completion rate. just saying... another example of good scouting, in this case from Mackay.

when u put it like that, even worse to spend 20M in Baines. Unless we won the treble next season xd.

If we're going to spend any money on a leftback, it should be Luke Shaw or someone young. Not a 30 year old.
Coentrão played four games for Real this season, none in Europe. I can definitely see Moyes go back to him.

Moyes is the only manager I have ever felt is completely impossible to understand from the outside. I have absolutely no clue what he will do this coming transfer window.

The only area which i feel comfortable about is the CB/Striker position and apart from that he may buy absolutely anything. He doesn't seem to like either of his starting wing-backs nor does his preferred wingers for the moment(Valencia/Januzaj) put fear in the top clubs in the world. But neither does the central midfield and his new signing hasn't made an impression at all so far so maybe he wants to sort it out.

Our priority is Leftback and CM. If we can get a class player for either one I'll be happy.

Muppetry because I am saying NOT to go on a huge spending spree in January? Interesting.

For the cost involved I'm not keen on Baines UNLESS Evra is going back to France and they are paying over the odds for him. I think with Evra, Fabio and potentially Rafael, we have enough strength there. If we are to sign another then I would be looking at a younger player like Shaw, which presumably means Fabio and/or Buttner are on the way out.

As for Welbeck, he is 4th choice and not going to get the gametime he needs as a striker in my opinion. Don't know why people are so averse to loans - look at Lukaku at Everton. Starting every week and looking like a great player, rather than sitting on Chelsea's bench.
Sturridge isn't a loanee but look at how he has done for Liverpool when starting regularly. So yes, send Danny on loan to a good prem club. Maybe Swansea or Southampton if they will have him. Somewhere where he will be starting every week, and he will come back in the summer a much better player.

Merry Christmas ;)

Welbeck has got plenty of time for us and we actually need him, it'd be unwise to send him out on loan. He's already had his loan spell at Sunderland and did well there, he's a full time United player now. His main issue is that pressure overwhelms him at times and his finishing can be dodgy, he won't learn to deal wih that at a smaller club, he needs to come to terms with it here.

Absolutely zero chance of Welbeck going on loan. With RVP's injuries and Danny's current form he will get plenty of game time.

Welbeck is an integral part of the squad now. Why on earth would he go on loan, especially with the likes of Rooney and RvP missing games.

I can't really see many leaving. If you think of the group that are to put it politely, undervalued by the current manager, some are injured, others are cup-tied in Europe.

Yes I think that would be the most realistic and cost effective option. He would want to go, would come cheap and is a good prospect at the age of 25. Would love him to come.

Welbeck on loan!

You could barely pick a more ridiculous time to suggest that

At least a loan. He definitely wants to leave RM.
He has to leave too. Needs to play regularly before WC even his spot in national team isn't under any serious threat.

With the recent rumors of Büttner leaving (Fulham/Serie A), and Fábio is sadly off too, I think Moyes would definitely bring in a LB.
