based on?
The fact that all three have pace in abundance, but Walcott and Welbeck both have a superior all-round game to Vardy and are more used to a possession based system?
based on?
He's clearly being played down as if he's some kind of joke. Perhaps he isn't an elite striker, but people are acting like he can't offer Arsenal anything.I don't think anyone's suggesting he's a donkey but it's not unusual to see players fade after one good season.
There are multiple cases in point :
Grant Holt
Rickie Lambert
Christian Benteke
To name but three players who had one good season but stunk up the prem a year later. This is a pretty crazy buy for Arsenal but I think Sr. Wenger is clearly sick of being told he never spends money and is now thinking short term.
It might work out - Vardy was phenomenal this season. But in new surroundings with new teammates at 30 it's a huge risk.

In this thread it's gone from 30 to 25 to 20.£20 million or so, well done Arsenal, having a good go at things, but all the big clubs will do the same.
You actually think Walcott or Welbeck would outscore Vardy? Walcott has been awful for Arsenal... most want rid of him. He offers nothing but pace and Welbeck can't stay fit for a whole season. I would easily take Vardy over both. No one knows how Vardy would do in a different system. With Arsenal's creativity he could score alot of goals imo.
Hmm. Walcott has been awful this season...plus he's a bit of a pussy who only seems to perform when needing a contract. In agreement that its a poor more for Arsenal. They need(ed) to aim higher with regard to a new striker. Cant really see Vardy outperforming Welbeck or Walcott (if he stays).
So if we went for him it'd be even more than £30m? Absurd is thatI also think his release clause is even higher for non champions league qualified teams.
Transfer window opens 9th June in England.
But he hasn't been given a full season. From what I have seen he looks a fantastic talent.
Just can't see how you have gone from targeting Suarez, Sterling and Benzema to Vardy.
Fair enough you didn't get those players but at least it showed ambition this is a little desperate.
I'm surprised at this. Like many, I don't think he'd suit Arsenal.
We spent most of our summer chasing after them and in the end couldn't get the deal done that is all that counts. It could be we have gone for so called better players and have realised the same could happen again? I look at Morata and R.Madrid will look to create a bidding war so could end up missing out on him too. While chasing after him what if Vardy goes, then we are left with nothing again. Too many top strikers will be incredibly difficult to sign and there aren't many options. As an Arsenal fan I can't stand another season of Giroud being our striker, simply had enough of him. If we sign Vardy I hope we go for a top prospect as well, not someone well known and try to develop him.
Also when we went after Suarez many here and even Arsenal fans didn't rate him that high, only had one good season at Liverpool and some doubted he had it in him. The next season he showed exactly what kind of player he is. I don't think Vardy will explode like that but he can definitely do a job for us.
With the Premier League season coming to a close, here's all you need to know about the summer transfer window...We have this discussion every single year, and every single year we repeat the same thing, the transfer window for English clubs opens the second the referee blows the whistle on the final competitive match of the season.
International transfers can't happen till the first of July (like every other year).
However , the use of the term "transfer" window is incorrect, it's the "player registration window".
As clubs can buy and sell players at any time during the year, they just cannot transfer the playing registration until the two official registration Windows.
Vardy was fantastic last season, he bang goals in for fun, terrorised defenders, has pace to burn, never buckled under pressure of the title run-in and played with great passion. Is it wrong I'm glad we don't want him?
Agreed. I genuinely don't like him either, so that might have something to do with it.Scored 5 the previous season and is about 29, not being funny but last season is more than likely the exception
Surely a man who looks to score is exactly what they need. Little Pea would be perfect for them never mind Vardy.
I think he suits a counter attacking team. His general play is pretty average. His main attributes are all based on playing in a counter attacking style.
Can't see this working at all. After all, what happened the last time Arsene bought a 'top' English striker
Plays completely the wrong way for Arsenal. He exploits space on the counter with lightning pace.
I can't see Wenger changing the philosophy of a lifetime? That's assuming they just slot him in but the team style stays the same which I highly doubt.
If Vardy comes they will tweak the style to utilise his qualities - speed, movement, work rate and finishing. They'll still have the quality in possession and creativity but Vardy gives them what they lack which is clinical finishing and his style adds another facet to Arsenal's gameplan.
I disagree mate. I don't think Wenger tweaks his style for anyone.

Unless this is his last year
