Jamie Vardy | Signs new contract

 based on?

The fact that all three have pace in abundance, but Walcott and Welbeck both have a superior all-round game to Vardy and are more used to a possession based system?

Vardy leaving basically guarantees that Mahrez and Kante will as well. I hope we're all over those two.

I always thought he'd be likely to go because of his age. Having spent so much of his career in the lower divisions, he must be relatively poor; parlaying his performance last season into a lucrative contract at a top club makes sense. This is his first, and maybe last, chance to earn big money to finance a comfortable retirement; he'd be a fool not to grab it with both hands.

I don't think anyone's suggesting he's a donkey but it's not unusual to see players fade after one good season.

There are multiple cases in point :

Grant Holt
Rickie Lambert
Christian Benteke

To name but three players who had one good season but stunk up the prem a year later. This is a pretty crazy buy for Arsenal but I think Sr. Wenger is clearly sick of being told he never spends money and is now thinking short term.

It might work out - Vardy was phenomenal this season. But in new surroundings with new teammates at 30 it's a huge risk.
He's clearly being played down as if he's some kind of joke. Perhaps he isn't an elite striker, but people are acting like he can't offer Arsenal anything.

You actually think Walcott or Welbeck would outscore Vardy? Walcott has been awful for Arsenal... most want rid of him. He offers nothing but pace and Welbeck can't stay fit for a whole season. I would easily take Vardy over both. No one knows how Vardy would do in a different system. With Arsenal's creativity he could score alot of goals imo.

He's can offer them something but they'd have to completely change the way they play to get the best out of him. Also we don't really know how good a finisher he is, only that for one season he was very good. And for a 29 year old that relies on his pace anything over 20m is crazy.

Crikey what a dreadful idea, classic Wenger.

Welbeck doesn't have a history of injuries like some, he was just unlucky last season but looked good when he played. Do I think he can emulate the season Vardy has had? Doubtful, but then again I doubt Vardy can repeat it either.

It's a tough one for the player

On one hand wouldn't he love to play for Leicester in their first ever CL?

On the other he will never get another chance to play for one of the big clubs

As for his potential for Arse...I don't see him being another Grant Holt or Michael Ricketts...but I don't see him ever topping this season either

In agreement that its a poor more for Arsenal. They need(ed) to aim higher with regard to a new striker. Cant really see Vardy outperforming Welbeck or Walcott (if he stays).
Hmm. Walcott has been awful this season...plus he's a bit of a pussy who only seems to perform when needing a contract.

Since he had that good game vs us in October. Zero assists and 3 goals excluding the FA cup vs Hull (two goals at the end of the match vs a championship team more focused on promotion)

Transfer window opens 9th June in England.

We have this discussion every single year, and every single year we repeat the same thing, the transfer window for English clubs opens the second the referee blows the whistle on the final competitive match of the season.

International transfers can't happen till the first of July (like every other year).

However , the use of the term "transfer" window is incorrect, it's the "player registration window".
As clubs can buy and sell players at any time during the year, they just cannot transfer the playing registration until the two official registration Windows.

I hope this happens, what a terrible signing it will be :lol:

But he hasn't been given a full season. From what I have seen he looks a fantastic talent.

Just can't see how you have gone from targeting Suarez, Sterling and Benzema to Vardy.

Fair enough you didn't get those players but at least it showed ambition this is a little desperate.

We spent most of our summer chasing after them and in the end couldn't get the deal done that is all that counts. It could be we have gone for so called better players and have realised the same could happen again? I look at Morata and R.Madrid will look to create a bidding war so could end up missing out on him too. While chasing after him what if Vardy goes, then we are left with nothing again. Too many top strikers will be incredibly difficult to sign and there aren't many options. As an Arsenal fan I can't stand another season of Giroud being our striker, simply had enough of him. If we sign Vardy I hope we go for a top prospect as well, not someone well known and try to develop him.

Also when we went after Suarez many here and even Arsenal fans didn't rate him that high, only had one good season at Liverpool and some doubted he had it in him. The next season he showed exactly what kind of player he is. I don't think Vardy will explode like that but he can definitely do a job for us.

Suarez and Vardy can't be compared, well apart from their choice of vocabulary.

With the Premier League season coming to a close, here's all you need to know about the summer transfer window...

When does the transfer window open?

The 2016 summer transfer window opens on Thursday, June 9.

Vardy was fantastic last season, he bang goals in for fun, terrorised defenders, has pace to burn, never buckled under pressure of the title run-in and played with great passion. Is it wrong I'm glad we don't want him?

Scored 5 the previous season and is about 29, not being funny but last season is more than likely the exception

If it gets arsenal to drop interest in the strikers we're being linked with then go for it arsene.

He's a short term option but I think if he moves he will easily get 15 goals plus, i get that he's a bit cnutish but people are seriously underrating him. Although I don't think he's making the right decision in leaving Leicester.

Won't loose any sleep over this one, could be a one season wonder and I'm certain he's not any better than Giroud

Agreed. I genuinely don't like him either, so that might have something to do with it.

Surely a man who looks to score is exactly what they need. Little Pea would be perfect for them never mind Vardy.

I think he suits a counter attacking team. His general play is pretty average. His main attributes are all based on playing in a counter attacking style.

I think 20m for Vardy is a steal to be honest, especially in todays market but I am glad we are not signing him.
We really need to aim as high as we possibly can right now.

Can't see this working at all. After all, what happened the last time Arsene bought a 'top' English striker

Plays completely the wrong way for Arsenal. He exploits space on the counter with lightning pace.

If Vardy comes they will tweak the style to utilise his qualities - speed, movement, work rate and finishing. They'll still have the quality in possession and creativity but Vardy gives them what they lack which is clinical finishing and his style adds another facet to Arsenal's gameplan.

That's assuming they just slot him in but the team style stays the same which I highly doubt.

I disagree mate. I don't think Wenger tweaks his style for anyone.

I can't see Wenger changing the philosophy of a lifetime?

Unless this is his last year

I believe this will be his last year and he'll go all out for the title. Leicester winning it probably made him reflect as all his excuses were dismissed for good.

This rumour surprised me. Lets be honest Vardy is an extremely average footballer that doesn't suit Arsenals style at all.

The Xhaka signing is starting to make sense. Xhaka is a Xabi Alonso sort of player and with Vardy upfront, Xhaka will be able to fully utilize his longball passing ability. That combination will work for some games considering that prior to signing Xhaka, Arsenal did not have a deep lying playmaker beside the aging Arteta.

You heard it here first, Arsenal tactical approach next season will be very dynamic and flexible compared to their previous style of football if they get a player like Vardy.

Interesting signing and wasn't expecting Arsenal to go for him.

I think that it can go either way, but my prediction would be that he'll score around 15 goals next season. He won't ever match this season numbers, but he won't also flop.

Why would you pull a league title directly out of your arse in a location that will worship you as some sort of footballing god for it. Then leave straight away without playing in the Champions League? Doesn't make sense.
