The more I've considered this the more I feel that kicking City out of the League for 10 years is the only real solution.
Yep. 'City' rhymes with 'spitty' and that's the only legal argument I need.

Sky are in a quandary. I'm guessing that they would prefer not to sack him. Carragher represents a significant demographic of football fan that is still willing to pay £50 a month subscription for the best league in the world. I'm guessing 9 our of 10 of them would laugh it off or defend him. It's difficult. Sacking him would change the dynamic of MNF and the Neville partnership. The Sky News interview was laughable with the newsreader taking a high and mighty position on a channel that is sensationalist and exploitative of the most vulnerable and impressionable in society.

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.
Agree with most of that. If SSN wanted to take the moral high ground, worried about brand reputation, they'd have sacked him immediately. They dropped that lesser pundit who made the holocaust comment like a hot brick.

They acted quickly with the apology on Sky News, not going easy on him.

I reckon he'll be suspended for the rest of tbe season, giving him a few months away from the screen, and put on an anger management course.

Thing is, he'll probably be goaded more than ever now.

People acting all sanctimonious in here and pretending to be baffled by Carragher behavior of him losing his shit after being goaded while they spend most of their time on these boards spouting profanities, overreacting and losing their collective shit at the slightest of things done wrong by players in match threads.

Oh the sweet irony plus utter hypocrisy of the masses who just want to pounce on a target they've found.
People have said that he would have been better off telling the bloke to feck off. I happen to agree with them. Using profanities is not the same as resorting to a physical attack(which spitting is seen as). If he had just swore back at him nothing would have been made of it.

Having reacted the way he did, to that level of goading, hopefully he’ll get some counselling/therapy as he’s likely to receive a lot more and far worse goading than that in future now.

Worlds gone mad if he avoids a caution by the police for this

If there's a complainant, it would be an open and shut case. As it is, an apology seems to have been accepted and the matter settled amicably. Nothing mad about that.

Are we sure he's not just angling for a gig as an ambassador for Qatar?

I swear if he had kicked the girl in the mouth after headbutting the father people would have been more forgiving. What is it with the British and spitting?

It is quite funny how Sky are making a point out of this, but on the other hand they repeatedly gave screen time to Rooney, Giggs, Gerrard, Lampard etc. all of whom did some questionable shit at some point of their career.

It's the absolute lowest of the low, scummy, vile, cowardly, you just don't do it.

Having said that I hope he keeps his job.

This is every bit as bad as the thing that ended Ron Atkinson's punditry career. And that was before the Age of Instant Outrage got going. If we see Carra back in the next 5 years I'll be amazed.

It's not as bad.

He's a dickhead - but I don't know what constitutes a reasonable punishment tbh.

Do people want the guy to never work again?

Is an apology, suspension and some kind of charity donation should be enough?

He's humiliated himself and that's something he has to live with.

I don't want to revel in this but I like to think that somewhere in the world this made Nani happy.

Huh, thought they’d have Neville and Brendan Rodgers

"We don't have our pundit who's a figure closely associated with Liverpool but who never won the Premier League title in the end, so here's Brendan!"

No condoning what he did but the 'dad' came across like a real prick. If he left him alone nothing would have happened in the first place. I hope he doesn't get sacked to be honest.

I'm sure we've all been in situations before, where we acted out aggressively and ended up regretting our actions.

Scummy bastard.

That Sky interview is hilariously OTT though. If I were him I'd be furious with Sky for that.

Is it relevant if the spit hits the intended target or is spitting in the direction of someone just as bad? Is it the danger of actually catching a disease from the low life spitter or is it the symbolic act of hurtling your body fluids towards a rival that provokes so much?

Having said I thought he’d be sacked earlier, i now think he’s probably going to keep his job. The interview earlier feels like damage limitation, as does Neville’s tweet. Maybe suspended for the rest of the season with some anger management training. Would seem a fair outcome.

Yeah, it looks like a public show of 'not going easy on him' by Sky.

Hitting by said spit is obviously always going to be worse, for me the thought of been hit by someones spit, especially in the face fills me with revolt, even though I know I probably won't catch anything, i'd far rather be punched, or kicked.

Nobody thinks he should never walk again. He's suspended, he'll be back in some form, but maybe not on Sky.
As far as pundits go it's a shame, but you need to control yourself in those kind of situations.

That doesn't mean that dad isn't a stupid prick, which he is.

Any mention about it on MNF or have they ignored the situation?

In law it is. It's is only assault if you intent to spit on someone. The anger in his face when he spat has me believing that he meant to hit somebody.

He was definitely trying to hit the car/ the open window. Then again I imagine spitting from one moving car to another is difficult.
Oh well, i guess the most likely outcome is that he withdraws from TV voluntarily.

How fast were they going ?

The reason I ask is everytime Ive spat out of a fast moving car it's either dribbled down my chin or got blown back in or ended up on the window of the side door.

Carragher is only ashamed because he was caught on film, not because he did it in the first place.
Even if he isn't sacked, his reputation is shot.
Can you imagine Brian Clough, Jimmy Armfield or Paddy Crerand doing anything like this?
I found it quite funny watching him on sky news absolutely disgusted with himself. It's like he was watching himself and saying, "now there is a twat". We've been saying that for years.

To the first paragraph.

You can't really say that and say its 100% truth. I've been rude to people in public when they've done my head in and regretted it almost instantly . I do get your point though but you can't say it is fact.
