I'm not sure that volume is a factor.
Top footballers always back themselves. Whether that's when they're signing for a club with loads of players already in their position, or spitting at a man 10 feet away on the other side of a moving car. That's what makes them top players.
Sky are cnuts. What are they getting out of doing this?
Control of the narrative; a fair profit from the scoop interview; control of the narrative, oh, and control of the narrative. Which is essential as they then dictate the terms and determine whether they keep him or not.
It was gross but it’s not a sackable offence. I wouldn’t want him sacked anyway, him and Neville work well together.
It's an offence that could land the common man a custodial sentence, let alone losing their job.

Sky are in a quandary. I'm guessing that they would prefer not to sack him. Carragher represents a significant demographic of football fan that is still willing to pay £50 a month subscription for the best league in the world. I'm guessing 9 our of 10 of them would laugh it off or defend him. It's difficult. Sacking him would change the dynamic of MNF and the Neville partnership. The Sky News interview was laughable with the newsreader taking a high and mighty position on a channel that is sensationalist and exploitative of the most vulnerable and impressionable in society.

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

I wish he reacted only verbally, because it was good for him to react. People should expect the worst when they provoke other people.
This is not feking disneyland, it's real life ffs. It makes zero difference in that split second if he's a celeb or not, talk dirty and u might get smacked - real life.

Sky - Should not sack Carragher. Should make this about the underlying issues of poor anger management. Should make it mandatory for Carragher to attend anger management sessions during a long suspension. Should make a documentary out of it. Show that they understand the nuance between punishing an entitled guy having poor control over his anger even when constantly being in hot waters for it, and terminating the contracts of a bunch of creeps who refused to change their wilful unsavoury behaviour after being in trouble for it. Also give a damn by properly vetting future employees in order to mitigate risks of something of that ilk happening. Or just sack him as this is the safest option.

Carragher - Should be made to undergo anger management sessions during a long suspension. Perhaps it would also help if he did something productive for the girl, of the girl's choice. And something of he thinks will benefit the girl.

Dad - Was irresponsible with his reckless driving by not keeping his eyes on the road at all times. Was also a not the best role model in front of his daughter by acting like a twit. Vinnie Jones should have a word with him.

Daughter - Should be spoiled rotten.

Car - Is not sentient (yet). Don't care.

Disgraceful behaviour. Absolutely disgusting. I lik him as a pundit, and have warmed to him since he stopped wearing that badge but this is inexcusable.

The father is a totally immature asshole as well, and should be taken to court for dangerous driving or similar.

If he’d reacted verbally most people would say ‘fair play to him’. The driver of the other car was filming him while driving, that alone is infuriating. But he didn’t. He’s dragged himself way down and I don’t think he has any comeback.

 all the guy did was shout 2-1 not verbally assault the Carragher family's dog.

Apparently there was a lot more going on than we actually saw in the video. Continuous provocation.

Not that I'm condoning Carragher's behaviour in any way

Yeah, it's a bit too far to be honest. Feel sad for the guy, seems a decent bloke with some football know how.

But in those 2 seconds I probably did something important.

Here's another one...

Fair enough! Apologies @Fortitude I think people should go to prison for getting to the front of a queue and not having decided what they want to order. If they're locking people up for spitting then that's great.

The daughter saying "stop it dad" before he started with the "2-1" kinda makes me think he'd already been at it.

Possibly, I don't know either way, but no amount of harassment would vindicate Carra's reaction any way you slice it. The guy is supposed to be a proessional football pundit, getting harassed from time to time basically comes with territory, as does learning how to handle that harassment. Jamie hasn't got a leg to stand on if you ask me.

Put it this way, I worship the ground Eric Cantona walks on, I'd willingly lose my anal virginity to him and bare his children should he request as much, but if I found out he pulled a stunt like this I'd disassociate myself with him, or any United player for that matter.

Spitting at someone is absolute filth.

Cantona has pulled a stunt like this.

I agree with that. I don't think there's ever been a situation where I've even wanted to spit on someone, let alone actually do it.

Did they reduce the pre game show to 30 mins instead of an hour. No weekend game analysis either, not even in a studio.

Are you really surprised? They defended Suarez’ racism, his acts of attempted cannibalism and manage to turn any manager with a shred of credibility into a bitter, delusional prick. There’s something in the water.
If anything it has been the United fans in the thread defending him. On the first 10 pages (damn, you all spam so much) the posts from the Liverpool fans on here have been condemning Carragher saying he should accept any punishment he gets.

That shouldn't be the case.

Dick move, don’t really get why that’d be anyone’s natural reaction. He must have an extremely short fuse.

The Dad is a prick too. He’s looking to provoke and get a reaction out of him, why else would he film it? He’s also an arse for using his phone whilst driving, especially with his daughter in the car. Setting multiple bad examples to her.

Straight up to the gantry no in studio at all at the start of the match.
Yea just mentioned that. Obviously tonights short notice but they simply can't do this every Monday. Would lose the whole "pull" of the show. A lot of nights i dont even watch the match, just before and after.

Spitting at the young girl is disgusting but, despite being a scouse, Jamie is entertaining on the telly and I think he makes more sense than "our Gary".

I'm conflicted. I think he'll be fired but he'll get plenty of second rate radio work to keep him busy.

Yeah is a weird situation for them. I can't see them even mentioning him tonight.

That seems to be from Australia. I doubt anyone goes to jail here for spitting unless there are plenty of other aggravating factors involved. For instance the woman in the first link already had a suspended sentence for handling stolen goods and her assault charge wasn't brought on grounds of spitting alone.

People acting all sanctimonious in here and pretending to be baffled by Carragher behavior of him losing his shit after being goaded while they spend most of their time on these boards spouting profanities, overreacting and losing their collective shit at the slightest of things done wrong by players in match threads.

Oh the sweet irony plus utter hypocrisy of the masses who just want to pounce on a target they've found.

Extremely different circumstances, though.

You're not comparing the two situations are you?

How are they extremely different? In either case the offender has reacted irrationally to instances of taunting. So surely you should be dissociating yourself with Cantona according to the moral code you've laid out for yourself? Or is kicking someone not as bad as spitting?

I don't know anyone who would spit on someone because they got wound up. That's pretty animalistic and bizarre. Being goaded gives no excuse to do that.

He deserves all the stick he's getting even though I do think it's out of character for him to do that. I've actually quite liked Charrager as a professional and as a person excluding this event.
