When they say "United could use Nani as bait" are they implying some sort of swap deal? If so they know feck all about football and the transfer market, which makes all the article likely bullshit.

At least I surely hope it is.

Ya they tend to talk shit when there is not alot else to speak of. Are my missing something tho, not that i think it will happen but what is so outrageous about a swap deal (plus cash) between nani and Walcott?

They talk about a swap deal between Nani and Rodriguez, not Walcott. No way Nani is coming here, for the reasons I pointed in post #217 in the previous page.

I'd love Nani here, as would most Porto fans, but it's an extremely unrealistic idea, particularly if it's true that his problems at United arose from him wanting a better contract. He already makes more than we could ever pay him. Any sports journalist that thinks that is possible is an ignorant.

Whos yer highest paid player at the moment and whats he on?

I'm not absolutely sure, it was Hulk, now it's probably Lucho or James. At most, £50k per week or something in that range, probably lower than that. And we're trying to lower our wage costs, not increase them.

That information isn't public here.

And Rather Neymar than Them.....

Btw, J Rod is right up with those 3 you mentioned. Reus and Isco aren't really wingers anyway.

Arruda have you seen much of Isco? How would you compare the two?

Nothing more than youtube compilations. I don't know, I think Isco has some kind of technique and touch that is so aesthetically pleasing. In terms of effectiveness I wouldn't really know. Not seen enough.

J-Rod would be a good addition if Nani is leaving. I hope the price is right as Porto have a habit of asking for some ridiculous sums.

If he comes, who goes? Surely we won't go into next season with Valencia, Nani, Young, Zaha, Kagawa, Welbeck, this lad, and maybe even Fabio, vying for spots in the side out wide.

Nani is the obvious one. He'll have to go if the contract situation isn't sorted.

Just can't see us letting it run down.

If we are planning to use him as CM, then might as well buy Quintero. He is also a 10 but probably more suited to dropping deeper.

Please let this be true, my muppet dream signing. I think either Young or Valencia should go in his place, but realistically, its going to be Nani unfortunately...

Would have been fun to see a Rodriguez and Nani on either wing, with Zaha and Young/Valencia as back up would have been potentially a ridiculous array of talent, especially if we factored in our strikeforce, with Kagawa as a further supplement, it would render our midfield problems moot, simply because we would be so deadly on the counter, and if we purchased a decent midfielder aswell, then great, our team would be complete.

Shame it won't happen though.

He is the laziest in training too and has fitness issues ? :nervous:

No, but he isn't a CM. He lacks the defensive ability for that and forcing him into that position will hamper his qualities, much like I think it did to Anderson, though obviously the later had other issues that prevented him from reaching full potential.

I think his optimum position profile overlaps with Kagawa. By saying he can't play like Dembele I'm assuming Tottenham are still playing with Sandro and Dembele in CM and Dempsey ahead of them. On Tottenham's XI James would play in Dempsey or Lennon's place.

I think if we were to get him, Kagawa and James could dovetail perfectly, much like Kagawa and Goetze did at Dortmund, tactical systems aside. Utd just need a way of getting Nani to stay, and also purchase a genuine threat from midfield and our squad would be complete and very, very strong IMHO.

Yeah, i agree. He is more a false winger than a out and out winger anyway, so we'll have to shift to 4-2-3-1 if we signed him.

Kagawa------------Rooney-----------------Rodriguez

Can switch around Rooney and Kagawa obv, or have a Welbeck/Zaha/Young there instead of Kagawa.

We have been linked with him for a long while now, and SAF almost confirmed his interest a while back. Dealing with Porto and the price will be a issue though.

Can you see him moving this summer ?

I don't really think you need Rodriguez. Moutinho would improve your squad a lot more for likely the same price. He'd walk into your central midfield and add real quality, balance and consistency. Never gets injured and can play 90 minutes every game without barely ever resting.

Not that James lacks talent, but I am unsure what he can offer than Nani doesn't (he could potentially reach a higher ceiling, but not as a right winger). I doubt he ever becomes very effective as a left winger as well.

So yeah, if you need to get rid of Nani than James could potentially be a good option for the right wing, just don't expect him to hug the line and shove crosses into the box. He's a wide playmaker, not a classical winger.

Porto will probably, and unfortunately, have to sell at least two players from the first team, possibly more.

Moutinho and James are the most likely targets, provided we get decent proposals for them. Also think some Spanish clubs have their eye on Jackson Martínez, and Fernando and a CB might be shipped as well. I fear a squad overhaul, we're probably a couple of decent performances in the quarter-finals of the CL for that to happen, provided we get through Malaga of course.
