Those saying play him in place of lingard - we have just spent a couple of years trying to bring pace back to the team, do we really want to row back now and play 3 numbers 10? We are much better to watch witht he pacey players in the side, so lets not replace them ith tippy tappy number 10s now

What is the point of pace when there is virtually no end product #lingard

Rashford
Mkhitaryan J.Rod. Griezmann
Pogba Herrera
LB Bailly CB Tony V.

Let's score some goals.

Well in Mourinho's setup he's there mainly to cover ground, add something to the fast breaks and be menacing, goals/assist only come as a plus.

He is not menancing, and doesn't add anything to attack.

Next season he will be a squad player at best.

He is menacing actually, always stretching the defense and pressing player's. He's pulling defenders away with his smart runs in attack.

This would be such a classic United signing under Woodward. We have much more pressing needs in other positions, he's a reject from another big club who probably won't be arsed to play for us - signed just to show we can spend huge fees on players...and also purely for marketing reasons.

Chelsea went and bought two players in positions they desperately needed them. They weren't hashtag or link-up with Stormzy friendly, or sitting on the bench at Real/Barca..they were hard-working footballers who clearly wanted to play for them and do everything for the cause. That is why they went from a mid table crisis season to Champions.

Please don't sign James. If we do, I'd give him a chance obviously, but he has flop written all over him. Would just be another huge social media unveiling for Woodward's ego rather than actually that beneficial to the team.

Rodriguez maybe would be risky business but his ceiling is high. High risk, high reward. Better than low risk, low reward, imo. But could it mean Griez is not coming if we sign him? Sure thing is that we don't rate him above Griez, so it could mean he's not available. But let's see. I trust Jose. 1-2 attacking players and one midfielder. Maybe one defender. He knows what he's doing.

As we know from under LVG, clinical finishers aren't much good if we don't have the chances !

I'd rather have the chances and see in Lingard can improve his finishing. He is 24 but only in his second season as a late bloomer, not that big a leap to think he would improve his composure in his 3rd first team season

Next season we will buy 2 strikers and a winger which will mean less of mediocrity #lingard

Mata isn't overly fast but he's very technical and a great finisher/passer of the ball.

Don't think it's all doom and gloom if James came in and offered similar qualities to Mata.

If there's one thing this side is missing it's clinical finishers.

We create enough chances.

JR????? we wanted him a few years back but he chose RM over us. Now he way down the pecking order at RM he wants to come to us... I would say a big no and let him rot at RM. Why are we buying players from Real Madrid? Why bother spending huge sums of money for their unwanted player? What are we doing funding RM with so much cash to compete for players we are TARGETTING. Just move on and target others rather than those from RM....stop funding them.

Let's not sign Griezmann, why would we want to fund Atletico?

Bernardo Silva? No please, why should we fund Monaco?

Signed Pogba and funded Juve last summer, why?

This alongside the notion we're too good for real Madrid players, ridiculous trains of thought in this thread.

Very poor logic there.

Especially as none of those teams will use that money to buy our best player.

Unless people have not noticed, Real have hardly spent over the last two Summers. It helps that they haven't been able to make huge sales like they usually do.

Real Madrid can afford to buy De Gea with or without us buying one of their players.

Yeah, a thought that James wouldn't displace Mata or Miki at #10 position in 4231 is ridiculous, after all he's from RM so he must be better.

This is like the time the Brazilian Radio station broke the Kaka to United story..

Classic caf that.

Look at this stage if we are improving our own team I don't care who we fund.

Griezmann at no.10
Rodriguez on the right
Mkhitaryan on the left

Martial
Rashford
Lingard
off the bench

We were fantastic when we played Mkhi Rashford and Lingard against West Brom. That place really helped tear them apart and earn us a draw. We definitely didn't need a 'tippy tappy' player in and around the box to find space and cause troubles.

feck sake.

we need a football genius like you at the helm

This forum's obsession with pace is outrageous, when used as by Rashford it's a great asset but I rather have someone with an excellent footballing brain, technical ability and decision making.
As if fast players cannot have those qualities. Liverpool signed a rapid player from Southampton last summer and he's got the lot.

Well read the caf, all they talk about is pace. Players being too slow. Mane for all is a nice player, but too limited when you come to Europe as well.
It's probably because we often fail to stretch teams. And doing that is key in the PL.

Mane is great. I'd happily take a player like him who can make mincemeat of premier league defenders. He isn't limited either. A lot lesser players than him excel in Europe.

We fail to stretch teams not because our players arent fast, physically we have one of the best teams in the Prem. We fail to stretch teams because our movement is poor, players have very small tactical understanding, ability on the ball, ability to move the play. We could field in de Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Shaw, Pogba, Fosu Mensah, Mikitaryan, Lingard, Rashford, Martial and still not stretch teams.

It's not because the player would be better than Mane, but the type of skillset you need to succeed in the CL. The skillset of Real, Juve, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG is so much better than any PL club, it's outrageous. We rate pace, running power far too much here in the prem.

I don't disagree with any of that. But it's even harder to stretch teams with players like Mata, Rooney, Fellaini etc. playing at a snails pace. You keep mentioning the CL but how about we start performing in the league first before thinking of beating the Barcelona's of this world? Pace is overrated but at the same time relevant. And it isn't by no means the only reason to not want James Rodriguez.

Mane is terrific. I don't know why you're classifying him as a non CL player. Every player doesn't have to be the same. Some are paced dribblers, others are goalscoring second strikers. It takes different types and all that.
