Do Liverpool really have a wage structure in place that would cause them to lose out on Milner and that would see Henderson leave? @Bob Loblaw @Barney @B20

Just seen this now. Ermm...I have no real knowledge of what our wage structure is but I very much doubt it. I guess the fact Milner is available for free means he can get a handsome signing on fee though.

I don't expect Henderson to leave anyway.

Milner maybe. I doubt we'd offer that kind of wages to a squaddie.

If we manage to feck up Henderson, we might as well pack it in as a club with title ambitions due to our wage structure.

Think he and sterling both will sign eventually.

He was never it, poor workhorse in a team with Ronaldo & co. Exposed as rubbish at QPR.

I enjoy your posts in Current Events, then you have to go and taint that by being a tit over here. Smh

we'd be mad not to offer him a contract, far better than he's given credit for.

Henderson will never leave Liverpool in the next years.....he plays every week, Rodgers loves him and he will be club captain in the next months.

Back to Mr Milner: Manchester City should do everything to keep him.

Mediocre player, the sort of player the real top sides in the world wouldn't even fathom having in their ranks. City would be better of waving goodbye.

Reading a few reports we're ready to hijack the free transfer to Liverpool....

Think he'd be a good squad player for us. I know many of this forum would be against it, but he's a clever player with a good engine. Versatile too.

It's not going to happen so I don't know why I'm posting this but meh.

I'd definately have him in the squad in theory. The thing is though I think we need to make two signings in midfield this Summer. An improvement on Fellaini in the box to box role and a replacement for Carrick.Milner would be grand as a squad but wouldn't bring the team onto a new level.

You obviously think every player in a side needs to be a superstar. Look at our previous title winning squads and you'll see plenty of players like him - hard working reliable players. And he's arguably been one of city's best players this year.

I think he could do a good job in CM. Great engine, decent passing. Rather him in CM than Rooney. I know it's a long while ago but ask any Villa fan what his best position was.

He is a good player and would probably add to the squad, but we should be aiming higher, and we have plenty of good squad players already.

Would be a good squad player and he has a goal in him along with being fairly versatile. However, I feel he has become the classic 'underrated for so long that he suddenly becomes overrated flavour of the month player'. It's like it's en vogue to now say he's underrated and would add a-lot to any top team. I wouldn't be completely against signing him but he seems a very Liverpool type signing.

Also, it's worth noting that he will be 30 next January and will probably look for a 3/4 year contract on £100k + a week. That, to me is a fairly big gamble. I couldn't see him coming here and being part of future squads for that length of time.

Why do people want him? He doesn't want to be a squad player hence why he is leaving City. I wouldn't want him in our starting eleven.

It's never going to happen, just papers filling space.

What does that even mean?

Young, Valencia, Fellaini, Rojo, Blind etc. There's nothing particularly wrong with any of these players, but we have plenty of good useful players in our squad. No need to sign up another one.

I was going to say this, plus he's on relatively high wages. Its not my money but it wouldn't make sense to sign him up as a squad player. Milner has been vastly overrated his whole career.

Reckon Van Gaal would love him, as Milner seems like the type of player that would fit straight into his philosophy. Hard worker, good professional, disciplined, versatile (LM, RM, CAM, CM, RB). Think his role would be very similar to the one he's got at City now, though - a squad player.

Agreed. I think Milner will head somewhere he's more likely to be guaranteed a game though.

We have a lot of squad players, we need to sign players who go straight into our starting 11.

Ferguson genuinely wanted to sign Milner before he caught wind of City's interest years ago. I would have to agree with Walters 19 post. I think Milner has more technical ability then he gets credit for and could fit into a Van Gaal system in central midfield. He has a proven track record of playing very well there in his Villa days under O'Neill. Whether he is technical enough would remain to be seen but he's definitely an undervalued player and playing on the wing for City and England for so many years despite not being his favorite place has not helped him at all and made him look an extremely average player but he kept getting picked there for his hard working defensive abilities.

Ye. Guess Liverpool would be a good move for him, but Milner is the type of player that doesn't have a set position, regardless of where he goes. I actually don't know what his best position is.

I agree with both of you, i dont know i think we should definitely be looking to sign players who go straight into our starting 11, but Milner brings a lot to a team, he is a very essential player to have around, he'll get you the odd goal when you least expect it, he would be great for those difficult away games in the CL, he has a proven track record in the PL, he is 29 so he won't command a hefty transfer fee or be expected to start every game, coming from the bench,Milner would offer more to our team than most of our players (Di Maria and Fellaini being the exceptions).

Either that or i would just love to read Boring Milner's tweets from a United perspective.

Grey text? That's a new one.

If we can get him cheap and he agrees to a rotation role I wouldn't mind. He looks like a typical LvG player who would suit the system, he'd also be a better option than wasting Rooney in CM in my opinion.

We do need to sign another CM though.

Quality squad player, but he if he wants to play regularly maybe best for him to go elsewhere.

or maybe LVG turns him into a RB..

As a footballer his level would be the same as Gareth Barry. Fergie always had one of two hard working players of that level in the team and always managed to still win such as Valencia, Young etc.....I think Milner could fit into a Van Gaal side as long as we had enough quality around him to balance out the quality with the graft

Milner certainly would be a far better option to cover for Carrick if he got injured than anyone else in the squad and he can also play in Herrera's position if need be and Van Gaal may be tempted to have Herrera further forward in some games....of course Vidal etc would be a better option but he might not be an option

I didn't say we should.

The post I responded to said City should bomb him out because other European sides wouldn't have him in. I said that in my opinion, succesful squads require hard working and versatile players - as we've had in the past.

Good player but not what we need. We need first team players, not squad ones.

We actually need squad players, we are using too many first team players as squad players which is why substitutions tend to make us weaker.

Substitutions present different options throughout the context of a game, but they are still usually weaker players than those on the pitch from the start.

Where do we need a squad player? The odd exception aside, we should only be buying players that are good enough to break into the first team, duly forcing the weaker players out.
