Totally agree.

No CL football over a sustained period leads to an erosion of a club's pulling power.

You're paying a hell of a lot in wages to a fairly average player.
 
He was good enough for City, he was great last season. Anyone saying he's lacking creatively obviously didn't watch him last year. Pellegrini persisting with that sack of shit Navas was idiotic. City offered Milner to stay and he's turned it down, I think that says a lot.

He is decent and most of all safe signing indeed, especially in the current situation when they're facing probable financial cuts due to 2015 fiasco. He may add some dynamism as long as he won't get into physical decline phase too quickly which can happen even in two years. He'll probably won't damage them in any way.

So far there's only realistic options for LFC on the table but they may have to reach deeper to owner's pocket if they'll need some talents like Kovacic and from that moment the risk is fully on them plus if they'll want even remotely get into top four they'll need to start spending big, very soon. No escaping from that.

Next stop is most likely Danny Ings, another realistic option that even now will be some kind of an upgrade on Rickie Lambert. It's a slow process for them to get something from this window... No substantial jumps of the team's quality so far.

Well Initially the one I was trying to find was for United in a home game and he passed it out for a throw in. They showed it on Soccer AM couple of weeks back, this one just showed up on google.
 
All right player. Best they could probably have hoped for. Liverpool fans celebrating this transfer are the ones coming to the realization that they're a mid-table club. The ones that aren't are delusional. Tough to be a Liverpool fan. :lol:
 
I think LFC have done well here. He is a quality footballer and hard working. BR will no doubt get the best out of him as he will be playing most games. As an England international I hope he does well. Would be interested to see what wages he is on at LFC after turning down a reported £160k a week at City.

Not really, his passing is mediocre. He doesn't make great runs behind the defence. The problem with a player like him is that he isn't what you'd deem a defensive specialist despite all his hard work. So all that running around is pointless. He's not like vidal who pretty much knows what the opposition is gonna do before they do it, he jus goes ball chasing. That's the same as Henderson, we all saw how pointless him and his energy looked in europe.

However much they pay him its too much. Once you start crossing the 6 digit boundary for such an ordinary player then management is doing something wrong.

This PL experience argument is rubbish. He might have lots of experience in the league but if he's mediocre, he's mediocre. Lots of players come here with no experience of the league and do really well. Similarly players with lots of experience move and fail where they go.

Why wouldn't Torres consider a move? Read up, I listed reasons why he'd consider a move to liverpool. If Hererra, Modric, Scholes and Fabregas can/could handle the physicality of the league, then there's no reason Banega can't.
 
Good signing for a club like Liverpool/Spurs. Would have been an average signing for United/Arsenal/Chelsea
 
I may be in the minority when I say I think he's a very good signing for Liverpool, and a vast improvement on latter-day-Gerrard.
 
He isn't a top quality player, but the way some people are talking about him on here is ridiculous. He is a pretty good player and considering Liverpool's recent position, the calibre of this player is probably amongst the best that they can attract. Lets put it this way, I'd rather that he didn't go to Liverpool than he did. Can't be arsed to check Bluemoon but I doubt that they are happy that he is gone

Nah, 4-4-2 Diamond with Hendo & Milner sitting in front of Lucas, behind Coutinho. Milner & Hendo make for an energetic partnership if nout else.

You sure as hell have a curious definition of the word 'mediocre'. A mediocre player doesn't average near 30 games a season for a City midfield which contains the likes of Silva, Nasri, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure. Mediocre is what I'd call the likes of Osman, Kouyaté, Shelvey and co.

On top of that, it's not because he's energetic and works hard that he just runs around pointless, he's more than intelligent enough to make smart runs. The PL experience argument isn't worthless at all, he knows the league and won't need time to adapt unlike some of our other purchases in previous transfer windows (Can, Markovic, Moreno just to name a few). And last of all, I could name lots of players who're worse than Milner that make over £100K. Those numbers aren't always representative and crazier things happen in today's market. I agree it's too much for a player like him, but so be it, doesn't make it a bad signing at all. City offered him £165K for crying out loud.
 
When did he last play in central midfield? Not really a position you can not play for years then suddenly start playing at the highest level. If Rogers is willing to play him every week while he gets up to speed again then their campaign for the top four could be over by Christmas.

Decent, versatile player but this idea he can slot straight into central midfield and improve their best XI seems wildly optimistic.

Milner is the epitome of mediocre. I'd rather have Shelvey's erratic averageness/brilliance or Kouyaté's potential than Milner's nailed-on plodding, particularly when you look at Henderson, Allen and Lucas. Buy midtable players - end up in midtable.

Milner is mediocre. Keep buying those type of players and you will be stuck as a mid table team. Can(Lucas), Henderson and Milner...pretty funny for a United fan.

Edit - I can't believe how close Liverpool got to a title last year. I'm glad its back

No you wouldn't, you would be done with Shelvey after a couple of games just like most Liverpool fans were, because he makes the most stupid decision possible on a football field. Kouyaté's potential? He's pretty much the finished article and barely improved in his last two years at Anderlecht. Mediocrity is not a synonym for predictability. You know what you get with Milner, and those qualities will most definitely improve our squad. We can argue all day long about the fact that he's a good or mediocre player, but anyone who thinks this is a bad signing for Liverpool are kidding themselves. His addition gets us closer to the top four than to midtable, although most of you will probably disagree on that.

Every United fan goes on about how uninspiring Can-Henderson-Milner is, but who says we're going to line up like that? We still have Coutinho (you don't get much more creativity than him), Lallana (got to admit, a bit meh but still), Ibe, Markovic (who'll be played as a proper winger this time hopefully), Sterling (for now) and probably a new midfielder by the start of next season. That's not too bad, and if we line up in a 4-4-2 (which I really hope we do), we can have a good, creative midfield with a lot of stamina to (hopefully) get back to our pressing game of two seasons ago. I'm not saying it's going to be like that, but most of you seem to always picture the most negative scenario (understandably so).

Yeah a Can Henderson and Milner could provide what is needed for the Liverpool attack next season. I don't mean to offend Gerrard but I thought he was really shit in his performances for Liverpool so Milner will be an improvement.
 
Good player, but hes not going to elevate Liverpool into a top 4 club. Still a good signing though especially on a free.
 
Beating Arsenal to a signature isn't exactly a huge accomplishment with Wenger at the helm. Plus, they have loads of wingers and CM's. Of course Liverpool would have been the more logical option for him.
 
Well he managed to get Ozil and Sanchez to join us so must have some kind of pull towards players. If the press are to be believed Milner wanted £150k a week which is what we pay Ozil/Sanchez, that wasn't ever going to happen. Especially when you consider he wouldn't even make our first XI.

It makes sense for Liverpool because firstly there is a slot in the first XI for him and also they are the only ones desperate enough to pay him that kind of salary. He is on a free which explains why it is high but still too high for a player like him.
