Manchester United clearly are an absolute giant of club football, and hence many players would want to join us. That was true while Sir Alex was here and will (hopefully) continue to be the case.
Yeah, why feel any pride in one of the greatest clubs in football? And if anything the majority of our fanbase especially on the caf these days seem to believe we are absolutely worthless. Maybe you're better off putting everybody who doesn't post in line with that view on ignore?
We're probably the most generous paying club in terms of money for level of performances and yet the top players dont seem to want to come here. Why? Because we arent winning anything. We arent in the top cup tournament.
its exactly why, the people calling the shots at the club think that simply being Manchester United is enough to all but guarantee success instead of doing what it takes with regards to scouting and signing players and appointing a manager that had a track record worthy of the job.
Ther managers press conferences early on were filled with "we're Manchester United" type statements, what you achieved in the past means feck all, they are things to be proud of nothing more, if given the choice between you and another so called big club you won't be the first choice anymore because you have no one running the club that actually has a strategy and when a player sis given the choice of which manager he wants to work with do you really think OGS will cut the mustard?

You're clearly clueless about what's happening at Manchester United. Van Gaal and Mourinho were two of the three managers hired post Moyes (picked by SAF) so clearly going for managers who had a "worthy track record" wasn't the issue. So there's that theory debunked.
Back in the real world, our major issue has been multiple fold - a CEO who is brilliant at the business side of his job but has been undoubtedley been unsuited to the football side and failed in this respect (badly). This has led to the other issue - we've picked managers who have A) simply not been good enough regardless of CV b) wasted money of poor signings c) also had no cohesion with one another (see LVG to Mourinho). So yeah, it's a deeper problem that has more to do with incompetence than "we are Manchester United".
Also anybody who isn't terribly off the mark, knows that when Ole says "we're Manchester United" - he is A) instilling a sense of expectation, responsibility and pride among the players and fans of standards that have to be set. B) reminding everybody of our past and hence the level we have to reach. He is definitely not hinting that we will be successful because we are Manchester United. That interpretation makes no sense whatsoever.
And yes, Ole is a mediocre manager. We'll replace him soon. If we get the right man in, and start putting things back together, our lure will be huge again, given the statute of the football club.

I think Maddison looks a very good footballer. But wouldn't wrote Mount off as some sub standard talent just yet. He himself looks very impressive. But I'd much rather see him perform at this level for a couple of seaosns or thereabouts to see his quality in comparison to Maddison (depending the younger ones development as these things are linear as someone put it). Like I said, Maddison is really good but he's hardly a top class footballer were comparing a nothing 20 year old Mount with.

I think this Leicester team is as good as the one which went on to win the title. Maddison is very good in his position but i don't think any individual in that team can go out and make an impact as part of another team. Even if so, it will take time and i think United is his best choice to really make an impact as we are in that stage now and require players who can go out there and try to involve themselves in the play rather than hiding on the field.

You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about United so God knows why you're on our forum. United, like it or not, are still a footballing giant. Some players will want to play here irrespective of current on field situations. History does count for alot still so perhaps you need to look at things from a different perspective. Maguire dreamed of playing for United as a kid and has bought into our rebuild. He'll be happy he made the move and can live out a childhood dream. What's your problem with that? It's weird. Just cause your own club doesn't have that history and appeal doesn't mean you have to come across so bitter. It's not a good look.

Same as Dortmund for Sancho and Spurs for Kane, but looks like Ole has very specific taste in transfers and so far Maguire and rest of summer targets (Bissaka & James) are players that actually want to play here.

if he gets the usual british price and United-interested price added to his pricetag, Id rather take Eriksen/Bruno and spend big on Sancho and try to get Haaland

Issue I have is Maguire was needed, we needed a leader at the back, someone with captain material and Maguire was arguably the best option around. Who else could we have got in that position that wouldn't have cost even more than Maguire did? Maguire himself was obviously massively overpriced and dare I say his performances thus far are proving that but I still believe he was the best option out there, Maddison on the other hand...
No one is going to convince me he's the best young number 10 out there (and in the unlikely scenario he is then we should look to move away from needing a number 10 before dropping the kind of money that would be needed to sign him). If we think Maguire was overpriced for his ability then we'll be getting an even worse deal with Maddison, he's not even a regular for his country (nor will he ever be imo). I really dont see what boxes he ticks other than the age and this myth that we're only interested in British

I agree on the price - I can justify spending £80 million om Maguire because I had a hard time finding a much better central defender that was available. There are a lot of really good attacking midfielders that can be signed for a lower price than Maddison. Having said that - he will of course be a great signing. And if we had £300 million available - fine, but we don't! I just can't see us spending £100 million on someone who isn't world-class. Not when we need 3-4 new players

My big concern with Maddison is the price, he's in amazing form in a free flowing team smashing it in the league. If Maguire was 80Mil, then i'd imagine we are looking at 100Mil.

Pogba is better, problem is Pogba is always going to want the Madrid move and he is always going to be more problematic than he's worth. Pogba will come up with eye catching moments in 1 game, and then go missing for 5+. How do I know this? Its what he's done for 3 seasons.
Maddison is young, energetic and plays with creativity. He would be a much better fit for us than Pogba. He'd make us better

Given our transfer history I could see them sanctioning it for a much worse player, or twice that for Maddison at which point its very unlikely he could live up to it. We tend to overpay

Since no director of football anytime soon It's probably up to Ole on this one, same with Haaland. I can't definitely tell if board will support him, because at one time they throw 50m just like that on Fred who was a bench player in his first season and on the other hand, they suddenly stop supporting the manager just like in Mourinho's case and block a move for a defender.
There are indeed better options than Maddison in Spain and maybe even Germany, but will they want to play here and show commitment like let's say Dan James ? Perhaps the best compromise would be Angel Gomes, but we never saw the lad in a longer run of PL games just yet. Somebody will have to arrive sooner than later and break through Lingard's and Mata's mild football display.
Perhaps Ole should drop Maddison interest and start looking for a player with pure false 9 abilities, in case of Martial's injury. It's all gamble, but as of now Maddison is a possibility that I wouldn't complain at, especially after Eriksen fiasco.

You're a fan. A footballer probably isnt. They arent going to think like you are
Whatever we are like at this moment in time, United are still a big club, one of the best known, and respected throughout the world, that doesn't change. The fact that we have a mid table squad at the moment, in my mind, won't change any players mind about joining the club. The player that joins us at this moment in time, can see a future where the team are once again striving for the top honours, the players that don't want to join either see no time in the future where United are again vying with the best, or they want success now. Maddison is a very good footballer, who on his day looks world class, but can also look ordinary, that is pretty much what most players are like during every season. If he joined United, and his ego leads me to think that he can see himself at OT, then we would be getting a well established, exciting attacking player who can score, and create goals, not sure how good he is when we are up against it, and need hard graft and guts to get us through some matches. Personally I would love too see him at OT, along with David Brooks, who I rate very highly, but we also need that Keane type, someone not afraid to put their foot in, and work their socks off for the team, whether that player is Fred or McTominay, I'm not sure, but McTominay certainly could attain that type of status if he keeps on his current trajectory.
