James Maddison | Spurs

He's mint.
Think I'm right in saying he'll have a year left on his contract come the summer. We need to be all over him now before Leicester get him to extend.
As per transfermarkt Madison's under contract until end of June 2023. I'm sure Leicester will be trying to extend him this Summer. Some good performances for England this year will only increase his value.

United seriously have our work cut out to lure him next summer, looks to me he is loving life at Leicester and why would you want to leave that.

The interesting thing for Leicester will be how they replace Vardy. Someone else has to come in and spearhead that side, and Vardy is extraordinary in their system, obvs a system in large part constructed to get the best out of him.

This place will be an absolute state when Leicester make Top4 & we get fed the same spin they tried with Sancho.

Leicester would rinse us dry if we did get him, and then carry on as if nothing happened, whilst we'd turn him into a Jesse Lingard/David Bentley crossbreed, and wheel Mata out to fill the void once more.

Nothing will change until the club does.

if you described how we play the last striker you would think is leading it would be Vardy, he doesn't get that many touches in the game but that bit is by design, he's been told to do his work within the width of the penalty area

He’s the cutting edge though, that’s the point, getting a replacement of his quality is hardest for Leicester of all their players. His aggression, pace and finishing are extraordinary.

Maddison and Mount this season.

Two young English midfielders with excellent technical ability, great set piece delivery, and integral to their sides being level on points in the top 4.

Maddison is the more flashy of the two, Mount the more tenacious hard worker. Both have the same number of goals in the PL and both look like they could score every game.

Should be some great competition between them for an England place going forward.
Mount isn't fit to lace Maddison's boots and never will be.

They'd do well to get someone like Osimhen in.

Why would Maddison interested to joining us anyway? They are in 2nd place and looks very likely of CL football next season, we are at 14th.

Its a subjective decision based on what a player wants from their career.

We're an historic club in a transitional period with a lot of young players finding their way in the game and are likely to compete again in a few years, while Leicester also have a lot of great young players they also have key players approaching declining age and if any other key young players (like Ndidi) get offers from bigger clubs the whole thing can come down quickly.

Plus Man Utd will pay more, and increase your pubic profile if you want that, on top of the whole prestige being able to say you played for Man Utd when you retire..

Pretty much this. Football as we know is a short career and you need to maximise your potential during it for after it. Playing for big clubs is your passport into many opportunities including business and media ventures. As we especially know at Utd, is much more than just football.

Sad but true :(

So, no idea if the rumour ended up being true, but remember in the summer when the rumour was that Maddison wanted to speak about our aims and intentions before being interested in a transfer?

Hopefully you can see why now, with Leicester 2nd in the table and him being one of the very best AMs in the league - probably 2nd behind De Bruyne. Speaking of which another issue was that people didnt like him as much because crossing was a large part of where his key passes came from. De Bruyne averages the most crosses of any player in the league with 3 a game, another player who's key passes mainly come from crosses this season. Doesnt stop him being a top player

oh please, liek we turned bissaka into mr bean, and james into a poor footballer?

Biggest problem would be leicester... as with Maguire, they don't need to and don't want to sell. They ll quote a very high price...80 to 100 million and won't move an inch.

Bit hyperbolic, but I do agree Mount is toward the far end and Maddison at the top of the young British midfielders/wingers in the league at the moment.

Isn't Mount much younger? And better than Maddison was at the same age?

This summer will probably be the first summer where just being Manchester United won’t be enough.

The club has fallen too far, it’s depressing.

But I’m happy Maddison is showing some good form, the Prem has some very exciting young players performing at the moment.

Where were you the past windows?

Money is whats been enough, sometimes, but not all the time

Says someone who obviously hasn't watched him closely this season. Pretty much the first name on our team sheet this year. Like I said, Maddison is the more flashy player who goes about it with lots of flair so he'll get more attention but I think they're at a similar level.

He wouldn't be an every match starter at Chelsea and wouldn't have gone straight into the England squad otherwise.

Mount has been less consistent

Mount has been less consistent
He has....actually been very consistent. In fact, that's what makes him a key player for us. He's our "trigger" player for the high press and does so very well most games.

Anyway, enough about Mount. I won't derail this thread any more.

Its sad isn't it, we can only live in past glories.
Players nowadays will only choose us because we will pay more.

Right. But not as consistent as Maddison who has 4 goals and 2 assists in 11 games, to Mount's 4 goals and 1 assist in 12 games

I think the only hope we have of him joining us is that he's a Man United fan, hopefully it was his dream from a young age to play for us and he follows his heart over his head!

Any club is going to lose its way after a manager like Sir Alex retiring. No doubt it should have been managed far far better but it was always going to happen because he was so central to the success by getting the best out of players.

Man Utd are a famous and historic club in a period of transition, it's only 'living on past glory' if there is no plan of action and at the end of the day, the club has to reinvent itself in a sporting sense.

The sadness for me comes from that it's not showing signs of progress over the last 6 years, which is to be expected when there is no overarching vision for the club and style of play. Every one of our managers since Sir Alex has played a different style from each other which is a really inefficient way to run a club from squad replenishment and transfer budget utilisation to training and implementation of the game plan on match day.

Once the club banks on a vision and works as a whole and makes the right investments to achieve it we will see a return to consistent top 4 and trophy challenges because of the tangible reality of club reputation and resources that we have, and you seem to be shitting on for some reason.

Football is unfortunately not linear to suggest that just because Mount is better than Maddison was at this age, he’ll go on to be even better than Maddison at 22. It’s hardly an argument you’d use to suggest Rashford will be better than Ronaldo, as he was better than Ronaldo at this age (as he had scored more goals and assists)?

Mount isn't fit to lace Maddison's boots and never will be.
Something I do find quite ironic about this argument is for years we were told Hazard would never be as good as Neymar/Bale/even Salah because he wasn't producing the numbers they did yet now we have a player on the right side on that argument the goalposts are shifted.

Not saying you specifically, just talking the general consensus.

Because this is Manchester United. Tired of the pity party.
and that attitude is a massive part of the reason you are in a mess, too many running the club seem to think you have a divine right to be challenging for the league, you weren't before Sir Alex and haven't since

Well having spend 600-700m ever since Fergie has retired 6 years ago, we are sitting at 14th place in the league. Its really sad.

He'd be daft to come to the United circus right now. Leicester is the best place for his career. Maybe Liverpool would be a decent move for him?

Bang on, getting tired of hearing all the "We're Manchester United" brigade. It's so arrogant and embarrassing.
