For that fee Utd should be looking at other players. He's not even that good in the first place IMO.

We spunked our entire budget on Maguire this summer when it was obvious we needed more. If we go for players like Maddison, expect the same to happen following season.

Can't speak for other Leicester fans but I never said Maguire wouldn't join you and haven't Maddison won't I have said what the club do, name a price and stick to it, United fans seemed to think we'd cave instead you spent an entire summer negotiating before paying the exact price we named in the first place, who knows Maybe that was Woodward just trying to get out of a months wages?
The Market did inflate after VVD before that the price we named thinking no one would pay probably would have been around £50m, instead it was £30m higher, you're being very defensive over nothing, assuming you're even interested, you'll get told a price, the rest is up to you.
As it happens I cannot remember a player, other than Mahrez playing up when we refused to sell and although it took until the following summer we got the price we wanted, I suspect they will never let a key player leave in January barring an outrageously high bid coming in so part of me is curious how they would deal with a player that kicked off with the team just refusing to meet the price. Obviously I don't want this to happen but I cannot help but wonder

If we aren't able to get Sancho or Fabian Ruiz type signings, which is likely considering our situation, then Maddison might be someone that we are willing to pay that much for.
Good player that would improve us, but not worth spending 80-100 million on surely. Think we need about 6 signings of players of this level of quality, so we have to find them at half that cost. That’s what are scouting employees are for is it not?
@Kush it looks as though the club were after an attacking player and looked at both Eriksen and Dybala. Very much doubt Maguire was our whole budget.
Ehh, he's okay, but not sure he's the one for United. #10 and RW are the most crucial transfers we need to make right now and if we get them right we'll probably lock down the top four spot. Given woody's leaks / comments on improved transfer policies and data driven scouting, I hope we can do better than buying every half decent young British player around.
After such shit luck in the transfer market for so long, we're overdue for some good transfers and I hope we can turn it around and sign a couple of good players and promote 1-2 from our current crop of young players to first team regulars.

Fernandes hasn’t done sod all outside of the Portuguese league to suggest that.
maddison looks a star and has regularly done well in the big games. while Fernandes might be of similar quality it would be a far bigger risk to pay the same sort of money required.

Maddison has hardly set the league on fire, he has 9 goals and 9 assists in 47 games for Leicester. Keep in mind this is a player they bought for £11m eighteen months ago. There's no possible justification of his value going up by 10x in space of that time. Furthemore, that sort of productivity from a #10 is just not good enough for silly money Leicester would demand.
Fernandes was quoted at £60m last summer and last time I checked we don't have bottomless pit of money, we need reinforcements in several areas of pitch and cannot afford to drop £90-100m on Maddison.
He'll replace Pogba, which is fine. He's better suited to the number 10 role, and Pogba just hasn't been good enough for us. In all honesty, if we can get 150M for Pogba, and then sign Maddison and Sancho for around 170-180M combined, we'll have a net outlay for 20-30M and be a much better team.
After that we'd need a bonafide quality DM, a quality left back to supplant Shaw, and another striker for the rotation. If we ship out Matic for 10M odd, have Lukaku, Sanchez and Pogba wages off the books. I could see us investing 150M net, which after the deals mentioned above would give us 130-140M to bring in a striker, defensive midfielder, and left back. If you have Maddison as your 10, a good highly technical creative player, and McTominay as the 8 who is bringing box-to-box energy, work rate and physicality, I would want us to bring in a 6 that is in the Carrick type mould. A player whose technical and positional attributes are to the fore, rather than the physical. If we are going to continue to look to fast counters, you really need a player who can split the lines with his passing, as well as accurately switch play at a moment's notice. Basically, not a Dier or Rice. We don't need a bruiser, we need a conductor.

United again will be splashing cash for marketing purposes... Instead they should be focusing on solidifying their midfield. Get players like Ndidi and Partey. Instead of spending crazy on Sancho, get a young quality left footed right winger like Chukwueze. if you really want to spend crazy money and get a star, spend it on getting a sure shot proven striker like Kane, if he is ungettable, go for Timo Werner or Erling Braut Håland.

Honestly Maddison would be crazy to leave Leicester for us. If they keep that current form until the end of the season, they'll get top four easily. Rodgers is really building something there.

Very good player and would definitely improve us but for the price and saga trying to get him from Leicester, we are better off going for other options.

Who knows, but from reports his price tag is around £40-50m.

I don’t get this Pogba bashing from our fans. Why would we long for Madison when we have a true world class midfielder? Sure Madison can play alongside him but I guarantee Pogba will be the better player.
It will even take Sancho at least a few years before he’s Pogba’s level imo. The problem we have is having to play Pogba deeper atm.

His best position is no 10 while his other position is on the left. However, sometime he reminds me a bit of Beckham with his main asset is crossing, passing & set pieces. He is surely has the potential to be the new Beckham which makes me think whether he can develop his game on the right side to be the new Beckham or no.
