James Maddison | Spurs

Maddison along with Olmo would be good additions

I'm a fan of him and would love to see him here, but for almost £100m you'd expect there to be more valuable options out there.

I reckon Leicester would sell him for 85, making a point that it was more than Maguire. I agree he'd be a massive upgrade, versatile, energetic, good touch, mouldable, hasn't won anything yet so hungry.

He's a good PL level player. Much like Maguire, actually. And like Maguire, he's not going to elevate the team or add anything further than that. For the price he'd cost, I'd prefer to look elsewhere. I'd prefer to actually buy some top quality wingers and a central midfield, and move away from playing with number 10's.

Plus, he does seem like a bit of a bellend. The vitriol will flood in from our fans once he starts hanging around with Lingard, and performances drop, like virtually every single player we've signed in the past 5 years.
One player is not going to elevate the team, but Maddison would be a great addition just like Maguire is. I'd prefer to buy him, a proven quality player already at the age of 22-23, rather than go look elsewhere like we did with Fred and end up with a dud. The same logic that was used back then, for 50m we could have bought Doucoure, who is twice the player our 50m man is.

The only Leicester player I want United to sign is Ndidi.

Doesnt it depend on Maddison himself? Maguire only pushed things through near the end. If Maddison (who seems more of a fancy lad) wants to push things through earlier on and make it clear he will not be good to keep around, then £85 million is probably an amazing amount to get considering we obviously got done on the Maguire deal and are unlikely to fall for the same trick again

I like the player but he's going to cost an arm and a leg and I'm not sure he's worth that. Hope we can find a better alternative - someone exceptionally good or as good but a better deal - however if not, then of course he'd be a good addition to the team.

it wasn't a trick, we set a price and said pay it or feck off, we will do the same again here, and it will be higher

I think we were quoted around the same for Bruno Fernandes tbh.

It was a trick to sell a £50 million CB for £80 million. We were swindled, we wont want to repeat it.

You might not want to sell but you might have to deal with an unhappy player who isnt good for the morale of the squad. If that isnt a problem, nobody would ever sell their players

that's not a trick its setting a price we thought no one would be stupid enough to pay, I've not seen anything from Maddison that makes me think he would cause problems

Too much sand.

I don't think it matters who we're after, it will cost us. The problem is we need to refresh so many positions there won't be enough funds to do them all in 2-3 windows as long as the Glazers are owners and Woodward is in charge.

Right. But if he did it would be a different story. Maguire only pushed things through at the end, if Maddison was being a bad apple as soon as a team came in for him you'd have to have a different exit strategy. At that point you cant have it all your own way

and if my Auntie had balls she'd be my uncle your point is just wild speculation on what may happen if something else that may not happen actually happens

He had a good loan spell at Aberdeen, then done well at Norwich before he got his move we should have been stepping in then as the talent was there to be seen

Would most likely walk into our side everyday of the week, Need Harry to tap him up

You're assuming best case scenario for you, whats the difference with someone else suggesting it may also be worst case scenario for you? Both are possible

I’m not assuming anything I said I’ve seen nothing from him that makes me think he would cause problems because I haven’t

You're assuming that Leicester get to set an unreasonable price and a team will have to pay it to get him. Thats best case scenario for you. It may happen, it may not. But theres every chance it wont

that's not a baseless assumption, its literally what we do, wee did last summer, we did it the summer before with Mahrez and the summer before that with Drinkwater, it is what we do, we set a price we are prepared to sell at and stick to it, the better the player and longer the contracts the higher the price, and if it were me I'd also make it clear to Woodward that every story linking Maddison to you adds another £10m to the price so he might want to plug the leaks

I think there is very little chance of you getting him for less than Maguire, he is younger, playing in the more glamour number 10 position and by next summer will almost certainly be in the England squad. United can't pay massive amounts for players like Maguire and Wan Bissaka then all of a sudden flip it so they can try and undercut an asking price, he will only be 2 years into his 5 year contract.

7 goals and 7 assists in the PL last year. is he really a £85m man? i'm not convinced. and if we lose Pogba, then we will have gotten worse.

Yes but we find players for between 30 and 50 million depending on how well known they are. English and well known PL player no doubts raises the price.

For example if Dani Olmo can reach /suprasss Maddison's level I'd rather we go for him. But of course we shouldn't compromise on quality.

Yeah my doubt is end product. You don't pay 80-90 million for an attacking with that sort of end product unless he's ready to absolurely explode. On the other hand I do really like the look of Maddison as a player

If pogba leaves ( which he almost certainly will), the club might look at either one of Madison or Bruno Fernandes to replace him. That'll pretty much depend on what the first team coach wants from his advanced midfielder. Maddison seems more involved in the build up and creating but not much of a goal scorer.

So because you did something once its going to happen again. I guess we're winning the treble again
