James Garner (out)

Sorry dude, but this would be a crazy bad idea. McT might not be top quality, but he’s definitely has attributes we need in a season and will provide adequate cover. Replacing him with an unproven player is a massive massive risk.

McT is on low wages, young, and isn’t a difficult personality. He’s a very useful squad member.
Mc T is beloved by SAF, think he has special status somewhat.

I’m not watching him day in day out so I don’t even know what to make of this. A buyback would be nice, I’ve heard good things about him.

I doubt that’s the only reason the club has kept him!
He has great character, grit and fight in him, but also friends in high places doesn't exactly hurt. I like him and think he has parts to play for us. Do think he can develop more.

He’s got 8 Premier League minutes under his belt. They’re paying a Championship fee because he’s a Championship player.
That was what I’m suggesting too. Currently he’s championship promotion level proven. He’s a talented young player and looking at fees from that league up to around £20m (including add ons) would appear appropriate.

I agree, every squad needs a player like Scott. The problem comes when you ask him to do jobs he isn’t equipped for.

Those days seem to fast be behind us with the current signings. Hope we get to see the best of Fred and McT going forward.

I hate this, would much rather give him a chance and sell McTom than selling him without ever giving him an opportunity in the team.

Hope I'm wrong but can't help but feel we'll regret this in the long run, especially with that fee

Can people please stop with the delusion Liverpool or some other club would have sold him for some fictional amount? He is worth no more.

£20m with add-ons would be a pretty fair deal considering he has only really played in the Championship

Anyone who thinks otherwise just needs to look at record championship sales because while I like Garner the reality is that’s his price range.

Actually not sure about the last part of your post. I worry about anybody called a midfielder going to Everton.

Great to see we are out of the hoarding mentality of the latter years. Abundance mentality is a much more healthy mindset.

With Casemiro, Erisken and Fred (and Scott) + potentially another midfielder next summer, it would be impossible for him to play.

Better for him to play in PL, but don t even know if he will play at Everton.

That’s the thing we’d be keeping him to possibly play some cup games.

It’s not fair on him to loan him out again and he’s definitely not starting over Casemiro anytime soon so he would inevitably stagnate and lower his fee.

While it’s bitter sweet it’s the best outcome for all involved to get a good sum for an academy player who I have no doubts will be a good PL player but in all likelihood isn’t going to be a starter for us.

Will be bummed to see him go on a transfer rather than loan. Only silver lining would be if Frenkie de Jong joins.

We need physicality and non-passiveness, he is as passive as Scott and not physical at all for the 6.
Think we should have loaned him though and then sold him after a season to boost his fee
Have you even seen him play? He's obviously not as physically imposing, but he puts himself about and has a good deal of tenacity about him.

Meanwhile, we're trying to buy de Jong, who is similarly built and not at all physical.

With respect there is a big difference between being involved in a championship game and bossing a PL midifeld.

Yes plenty and the game tends to drift by, he isn't that involved as the other midfielders he plays with. He is talented and so when he does get involved he does well, but he did not impose himself on the game at Forrest.

Also De Jong is 1, alot more physical and 2 not the holding midfielder and can run a game, he is the opposite of passive

A couple of comments on a Stretford Paddock video alleging that Garner started a bust up in the dressing room a few days before articles first appeared regarding him being sold.

Could be bollocks of course but thought I would share.

Spoiler alert: we won't need a buyback clause. I think his level is midtable personally. Maybe he'll suddenly show something, but it's all based on championship form, he's literally done nothing in a top league to gain all this hysteria.

Oh, I'm not suggesting he's good enough to dominate consistently. But I am disappointed he's not had the opportunity to show his worth, and I'm disappointed with the fees being quoted. I think he has real talent and decent experience for a 21 year old. Forest would easily have gone to £20m+ if we were more organised and decisive.

He wouldn't be my first choice of player to sell but at least it proves we are actually able to sell players. Hopefully it's closer to 20M and includes a buyback clause just in case. Good luck to him.

£15-20m for him, maybe £20m for AWB, get Dest in on loan with option. That’s about £150m net spend for the summer and 7 players in.

He might consider himself unlucky, being sold so quickly after the likes of Lingard and Mata stayed so long, not to mention Jones who'll retire at United.

I think he has to be fair. ten Hag has never been the kind of manager to discard young talent and Garner had an adequate platform in Forest to showcase his current ability.

I think he’s shown a good level at Forest and at a club like United your two options as a young player are to show your worth on loan or impress so much in training that you get a start and go from there.

Im not sure you could argue £20m+ fees convincingly given the fees paid by Forest for players of similar levels or better

Fair enough on all counts.

The way that forest play tends to bypass the midfield, though so it's unfair to expect him to be all action. His role was far more disciplined and defensive, but he certainly showed his ability on the ball.

Along with Spence, Johnson and Yates, he always stood out in the games that I saw live.

I think he'll excel in a better, more progressive side, and I think it's a mistake to sell him if we don't have a replacement.

Perhaps, or for once we're actually selling an asset while they've got some value. He could have stayed, showed he's not really up to it, then we're stuck with another one.

I feel he's a better prospect than neco Williams who went for more, and I know how much he's adored by forest fans and their manager. I guess we'll never know now.

Yes, we're doing it finally.

Good luck to him. He can get some games over Davies, become a first choice sub and then try and break through.
