Man Utd and BVB have never talked in a meeting face to face. There are intermediaries - Marco Lichtsteiner on behalf of BVB, Emeka Obasi on behalf of Sancho and probably those cool looking lawyers that Edward used on Herrera transfer :)
On those meetings BVB said that they wanted 120 million euros. Edward Woodward through Matt Judge said that in this climate BVB are being unreasonable and 120 million euros is out of the question and said 60 million euros+20 million in add-ons (Add-on is not instalment, so don't get it twisted) BVB :''keep that thing away from me'' they dont want nothing to do with Edwards now famous add-ons where the player has to win Ballon D'or, Champions League and 10 league titles and all thay while still being at Old Trafford
+ Edward offered wage cut for Jadon Sancho and his agent.
Edward knows how much Sancho wants to join us and wants the player to tell that to BVB, but with that comes the fact that Sancho would give up his loyalty fees etc which i imagine are also millions of euros.
Even on sky sports yesterday they were talking that BVB wants Sancho to come out and say that he is staying and Man Utd want the same thing, or the other thing, or the same thing. Either way, Man Utd want Sancho to come out and say something!
Sancho doesn't want to say anything before Man Utd has made reasonable offer, which Edward Woodward has said is out of the question ''in the current climate''

I agree with you. Leaving your home country to further your career is a massive deal for the first time. But once you’ve adjusted to being an immigrant expat, your mind becomes very open to moving to other countries. He could move to France, Spain or Italy on a 5 year contract and move to UK after aged 25 or 26.

So he has options going forward, albeit limited to whom can afford him.

Real seem to have their hearts set on Mbappe. And Barca, well they’re quite known to be skint right now. Either they manage to sell Messi this summer for 100mill+ or he goes on a free. If the get 100mill this summer then maybe they try and bid for Sancho this summer. But if not, they’ll definitely be after a replacement post-haste and most reports have them being linked to that guy from Inter laturo or something.
 
I made this point more than a few pages back but a Messi sale to City doesn’t mean Sancho will go to Barca. I think they have a very little chance where Sancho wants to return home and that now Barca are in decline. But the dominoes that fall elsewhere in Barca having a ton of money to spend from a Messi sale may mean that another suitor may suddenly provide us competition for Sancho in England.

The worry imo would be Barca targeting one of Salah or Mane who apparently want new deals. Both are 28 and 29 and the dippers may be inclined to cash in one of them. If either is sold to Barca then suddenly the scousers are competition for Sancho. Considering Klopp has publicly declared his admiration for Sancho in the past, I’d be concerned that Sancho would be inclined to play for him.

This is the problem I find with some here, Glazer apologists. Of course we can afford Sancho, this deal should’ve been done by now. Some need to ask themselves why Ogden is reporting that agent fees and player demands are holding up this deal. Why are we the only club that faces this issue? Ogden and the other UK journalists are clearly being briefed by United.

It was Utd board and management themselves who boasted how they could take advantage of the market due to covid and Ed saying Utd could do things in the market that other teams could only dream of.

Exactly this. Don't come out and give it the large when you cannot deliver. We came out saying we have x amount of financial power, we can do things teams can dream off, whilst other teams were pleading poverty and find money to buy players.

Then the fans buy the narrative that we have no money and Covid has had a massive impact, no doubt it is having an impact but can anyone tell me apart from match day revenue, what other massive impact it has had on United?

we lost about £25m for not playing the final few games at home, all other advertising money, tv rights is still the same.

We will now have additional money for qualifying in the CL so how can we not afford £100m signing?

Any news on the supposed replacement for Sancho for Dortmund, is it Rashica? Seems pretty quiet from his team. You would think the domino effect has started with Bremen's loaning of Chong to supposedly replace Rashica.

The club boasts of its commercial revenue and ability to attract sponsors. This should have safeguarded the club against financial hits like this one better than most clubs in the world yet now we’re short of cash and have no money! This point gets ignored by the “we’re poor” brigade.

I think that is a good point, after the financial hit in 2008, I would have expected alot of big companies especially when you have a banker running it to safe guard the club from these kind of hits.

We are one of the biggest club, I am no expert but I am confident that we are in a very good commercial position.

We are not the only club facing these issues. It is just the fact that you only really care about United news and don't actively look at other clubs and their struggles. The other fact is that United generates more clicks and interest so naturally journalists will report more on United transfers than other transfers.

My personal opinion (this is getting offtopic) but we seem to have a yearly net budget of €100m. We can spend over that, but it has an impact on the following seasons transfers.

Since Sir Alex retired our net spend has been €751m in 7 seasons. Every time we spend big it's followed by a season we spend little, seems to be a pattern to me.

We genuinely had the financial ability to do so and we smoked hundreds of millions of pounds on idiotic deals, mega wages and severance packages. How in a global company the person responsible for such tragic business is still working there is beyond me.

He is so key to our season, Sancho and a LB in my eyes should be our top priority as baily/Lindelof can still provide the cover.

I wouldn't mind even if we go for Sancho and a proper Number-9 in this window by leaving the defence as it is.

Haaland seems a great miss for us.

I just had a peek at the Messi thread on Blue Moon to see if it's as bad as it is here. It's worse; all 5 of their fans are tracking Jorge Messi's bowel movements over there.

I haven't been muppeting hard this summer so feel a bit behind (other than being aware of the links to Upamecano, the Sancho saga, and of course the fact that we've bought VdB). Could you link to these quotes? It would be a tremendous about-face to boast of our finances a couple months ago and then come out and claim we don't have transfer funds now that we're being asked to pay up.
 
I think people on here really underestimate the importance of cash flow management. It is more important that you have enough cash to pay for everything than showing a profit.

We have an enormous wage bill to meet every month (last year it totalled £332m for all staff and players). Based on that, we need £27m in cash available every month if you assume these are paid evenly over the year.

On top of that, we have £100m per year in terms of costs for actually providing security/food/amenities etc. (Another £8m per month if you assume even distribution)

Even to Manchester United, committing yourself to a £100m deal (not including agent and admin fees) on top of, likely, a £250,000 per week wage (another £13m in annual wages) is big if the deal is not structured correctly.

After lvgs 1st season we bought Martial, Schneiderlin, schweinsteiger, Memphis and Darmian. The following season Zlatan although he was free salary was high, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Bailly. Then Lukaku 75m, Matic 40m and then Sanchez for an obscene salary in Jan. The only time we didn't really spend was José's last window.

I don’t think Ed ever did. He’s always said there won’t be big 100m transfer this summer. I think Ole in an interview with Gary Neville may have alluded to us being in a position to take advantage of the market.

These were comments by Ole. Ed made similar claims too. Ole would not make comments like this without having had discussions with Ed and the board.

This is just doing a quick search. But there were a number of interviews I listened/read during lockdown which was boasting of our financial position. That’s what actually got me excited that we would do serious business this summer. This was with the board fully aware that we would not be starting the new season with any fans and revenue from Match days.

Cheers. Sounds like Ole was speaking without real knowledge of our financials, as there is no way he would have gotten fans' hopes up like that if he had known what the impact on our balance sheet would be. I will have to look for comments by Ed. I only remember reading some quotes from him back in April about how things wouldn't be "business as usual" but that he'd "try" to back Ole in the transfer market. Sounds like the FO and the manager were not on the same page, either way (or that Ole was trying to force Ed into action via the media).

I can't see Barca spending a ton of money in just one player. They are in deep financial trouble, it's reported they can't even pay Koemans release clause and Setien is still their manager. They gave away Rakitic and Suarez will probably be the same. They need 3 new attackers, 2 midfielders, 1-2 cbs, 1 rb and maybe a lb.
