Good watch. Have a lot of time for Mitten
Mittens good, he gets loads of stick on here because he goes against the grain on transfers and people say he’s not credible. However one of the only ones this window who’s got everything spot in, including that kid that everyone had said we had signed but it’s turns out we haven’t and he’s still at his club.

Sancho cost more than 120m euros last year and will not cost less for at least another 7-8 years. We could have bought him for 120m euros before August 10, but the skiving Glazers are trying to buy him for less. Time waits for no one - if Messi leaves Barca, Sancho will go to Barca.
He wants to return to England, this is his home country. He doesn't care about spain.

Yeh I still remember that, sounds funny now. I do wonder what exactly have we done to make other teams dream of,.

I completely understand that the financial impact globally has probably been more than anyone could have imagined.

But we certainly don’t go from being a team who “can do things other teams can only dream of” to being unable to buy anyone.

The VDB purchase (which was an amazing price) will more or less be covered by sales to a couple of our fringe players who are no longer needed (Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Lingard). So essentially we’ll be at a position of £0 net spend or better once sold. Even with covid impacts there is certainly plenty of money available to still spend.

btw, I’m not bashing the board. I’m just bashing the notion that some fans believe we have no money to spend. I genuinely believe we will eventually get the Sancho deal over the line before the deadline is up.

Don't think people realize that 120m is already the covid adjusted price  . The same club sold a lesser player, who publicly agitated for a move, for much more not that long ago and a less proven younger player went for more last summer which is why I was surprised when he got quoted at 120m this year.

We won't find a comparable talent in that age bracket for less than that anytime soon unless they have a fixed release clause I'm afraid. Big reason why I was hoping we'd take advantage this summer when we don't have anyone to compete with

Mitten is a decent bloke. He's not out to spout bull, he's not like Golbridge who is milking the club. He is genuine, a utd fan, and I believe he does have inside information. He is just more respectful with it. I truly believe we are still in for Sancho and I think we will get him. It's all about how the installments will be paid.

You don't have to be a Glazer apologist to understand that the club needs to be fiscally responsible during this period of unprecedented uncertainty.

I hate the Glazers and would love nothing more than to see the back of them. But the reality is that they have no interest in selling the club and even if they did, nobody is buying them out in this current climate.

It's also a simple reality that their ownership and the way it came about has our club structured in such a way that we have to make ends meet. Yes, when all is going well we can generate more money than almost any other club, but by that very same yardstick - when something ridiculous like Covid happens, we stand to lose more than anyone else too.

We employ more people than most clubs and have all praised the club for its conduct in standing by staff during the last few months, we have more seats, more online presence, more marketing streams and more pretty much everything than most other clubs and all that costs more money than other clubs spend. We were likely towards the business end of negotiating an enormous deal to take over shirt sponsorship from Chevrolet next year when this virus came along and threw those talks into turmoil.

We can all sit around and moan about how much we wish the Glazers were gone and we had a Sheikh pumping his own money into the club but that isn't an option for us so it's not really any use. Suggesting that the Glazers should just sign all the players anyway, regardless of the cost "because Man Utd make plenty of money anyway" is ridiculous - we operate under a different reality to City or Chelsea and that's just the way it is.

Even the click bait journalists gone super quiet on this. We were never getting Dayot U this window after he signed a new deal.

Grim enough.

Chelsea just took Havertz for a similar outlay. Get it done.

Except there are no links.

So just PR and not facts
We have 90m in cash reserves and have taken out a 140m loan. That loan is to cover the scenario where no crowds go back at all this season. To me this looks incredibly unlikely. We’ve also already written of 20m in our books for the television rebate. There’s talk of all games being on TV next year so I’m going to assume the PL aren’t just giving 200 games away for free to broadcasters and that may absolve that rebate cost. We can spend if we wish. It’s basically all about do we stick or gamble on crowds coming back and revenues getting back to what they were from January onwards. If we gamble and do a similar net spend than at our most under Jose we could do some serious damage in the transfer market this year. From Ole’s end of year comments I think it’s pretty obvious he wants us to gamble when clubs are more willing to sell and there’s far less competition. Joel Glazer probably not so much but it may save money in the long run if they’re serious about having us compete at the highest level, which they should be as aside from that’s actually what this club should be doing latter stages of the CL are worth over 100m a year.

Well facts in terms of words spoken by the manager and CEO. Not sure it’s great PR boasting about financial power and exploiting the covid situation and then not following up with. Very bad PR in fact.

Agreed on that part, and to be fair to the club we're not privy to the intricacies of those negotiations so though I appreciate people's frustrations calls to 'get the deal done' aren't very helpful. Irrespective of what you think of our owners, going out to do any old deal during the Covid downturn is just not feasible so taking more time is understandable for me.

If we don’t use this opportunity to “exploit” the market and use it as a chance to close the gap on the two teams above us, then we never will. Because if we’re waiting for normality, then it’s back to square one for every team.

Goldbridge's source is Romano, Falk, and that Jan guy.. he thinks the English journos are crap. So I wouldn't take much note of what he thinks.
I didnt mean that. I meant that he is an Aston Villa fan who is pretending to be a Utd fan and set up a Utd fan channel because that's where the money is at.

Let's sum up what's happened so far and the current situation:
  • We tracked Sancho for a while; this summer, we decided to make our move.
  • We got in touch with Dortmund and started negotiations with them.
    • At the same time, we also started negotiations with Sancho and his entourage.
  • We agreed personal terms with Sancho.
  • Even though the negotiations were advancing, they reached an impasse as Dortmund felt like they weren't getting what they wanted.
  • United are still in for Sancho, but there have been no new developments.
My analysis on the events & current situation (these views are my own and not from any journalists):
  • Our first offer wasn't good enough for Dortmund (par for the course when it comes to negotiations).
  • Dortmund then decided to get their agents involved as they weren't in the mood to negotiate.
  • We agreed to pay 120 million Euros to Dortmund via negotiations with their agents.
  • The agents want to be paid for their work, so Dortmund want us to cover the payments.
  • We don't want to cover all of it, and that's where we hit an impasse.
The agents are slowing down the negotiations because Dortmund made it clear that they won't pay any of the agent fees. I wouldn't be surprised if we decide to leak this out the moment we decide to pull out of the negotiations. If we do get Sancho, however, don't be surprised if agree to pay more than 120 million Euros in order to cover the agents' fees.

Aside from all of that - and the fact he seemed to 'present' his show in a green screened spaceship - I would say his opinions and sources are beyond reproach.

90m in cash reserves (as of the March 2020 Q3 reports) wouldn't have been so bad if we didn't need to strengthen in multiple positions. My guess is that, because Dortmund want much of the 120 million Euros up front, we may not have enough money to strengthen other parts of the squad. I think we went after van de Beek because we felt that we could afford him at this time, but we're still waiting for outgoing transfers before deciding to strengthen the team further.

I know he comes out with some strange stuff but to claim he’s a villa fan pretending to be a Utd fan is a bit far fetched!

He’s so emotionally invested in Utd, he would have to be an incredibly amazing actor to pull it off.

Romano and Falk have been as accurate if not more accurate than anyone else this summer, especially related to German football, i.e. Sancho. The English press have been slow with a lot of stories.

Agreed. The English journalists have been shite compared to Romano and Falk. English press are so slow at picking up any story.

They have links outside of Manchester United who give them up-to-date info. Most of the English journalists have no such links beyond the clubs.

Nah not buying that. The guy who is the site admin Drawty posted that the Sancho deal was done that they were dotting the i's and crossing the t's. They are full of shite with no inside information. The fact that they get people on their show like Romano and Falk is neither here or there. These guys come on because it's clicks for them.

Why do you think he cant get any former Utd players on his channel after more than 3 years doing it? Where as Webby and O'Neil have only just started their channel a few months ago, and they have had Scholes, Giggs, Neville on to name a few.

Everyone knows Goldbridge (not even his real name) is a closet Villa fan. He sensationalizes headlines on his channel for clickbait, just a massive bellend and a wum

What has Falk been accurate about? All he does is say German reports are correct

Have a quick read of my post again.

The thing is do our board and owners even care about bridging the gap? If we forever stayed in their shadows (They finish 1st and 2nd every year) at 3rd place every year, I bet our owners would be perfectly happy with that. They just need Champions League football to earn money. They don't aim to leave a great legacy in the football world because they are businessmen, not romantic sport lovers.

Not saying they are not accurate, they too make errors and it should be all taken with a view and not gospel is all I am saying.
I.e Romano saying personal terms are agreed - other british journalist saying no..

Makes me wonder, why didn't Chelsea go for the superior, boyhood fan Sancho, if the the outlay is similar...

Not true.
Then what? Jude to Utd was always a long shot, thats what he hung his hat on. I dont know what he was supposed to be ahead of the game with. If its Sancho then every journo in Germany is reliable since they all have claimed the same thing.

Well they don't play the same position for one and they had already invested in a new winger in February for two after also signing the winger that Sancho displaced the year prior...

I have thought this myself. We have to accept the fact that Glazers are not fans of Utd, they are just businessmen looking to make profit like all businessman.

When we finish outside of the top 4, they react by investing heavily as they understand from a business perspective they need to make that investment to capture the financial riches of champs league money.

Now when we finish 3rd, essentially it’s only around £20m difference in revenue from finishing 1st.

So from a business perspective they are weighing up spending 120m euro in order to try and win £20m more. It would take a lot more convincing by Ed and Ole to show them that this 120m would pay off every year for the next 10 years.

I imagine that’s the challenge Ed currently has in presenting that case. We have to always remember that Glazers aren’t fans. Everything will be viewed from a business sense.
