Is the Pilib De Brun tweet our gentle way of letting supporters know that Sancho is off and there'll be no big investment this summer?
This one:
Please read/listen what clubs are telling you. Sancho deal is off. The people at our club are lying to us that there is no ''value in the market'' ''because of Covid that is not business as usual'' ''Club is committed in supporting the manager LONG TERM''
Chelsea is not spending Roman Abramovich money, Abramovich has been away from Chelsea related business for a while now, ever since he got his citizenship revoked and had to take Israeli citizenship. Napoli is spending their own money. Clubs are spending money. We cant spend money because Glazers need the money elsewhere and are taking out money from our club.
Listen folk. We made 60 mil offer for BVB and asked Jadon to take a wage cut, ffs. BVB said 10th of august that the deal for Sancho is off, right when Ed started talking about 60 mil. We as a club are a laughing stock for the other teams. Our club would never be in this situation if we didnt have the Glazer ownership. They are leeches that dont care about anything. they dont care about ''soccer'' they dont even care about american football. Only thing they care about is money. Ole secured CL football for them. Now they will start selling us ''giving chances to youngsters'' because they know that we like that. Covid didnt take money from our club. Glazers did!

Must have been Vidal ? Thiago was puny in comparison, don't think we crossed 500.
Really?? Felt like a huge saga at the time.

The "good luck in Manchester" ball etc. I remember it dragging on a good while too before Bayern just went "ok we'll have him then" and signed him in a day.

Oh I agree with everything you say. Our recruitment process has been dross. No real forward planning just a collection of players.

This is why, wrongly or rightly, we haven't bought anyone yet this year. We want the players. We need the players. But Ole did also mention that he'd rather have holes than ar$e holes.

If only the recruitment was better earlier on, which Glazers have to take blame for, we wouldn't have needed to spend so big now, or over the past previous years.
I’m not sure we can conclude that there is no planning. If we’re speculating based on what we can observe and with a bit of assumption thrown in, I would think a lot of time is spent on planning.

The problem is we do not want to pay. If a player is priced at £100m we’ll only pay £80m. If he’s priced at £10m we’ll only pay £8m etc.

You could say value is subjective but the price is a matter of simple economics. A sale will happen if there is a zone of overlap between the highest price that any club is willing to pay and the lowest price the selling club will accept.

You could argue that the price is the same thing as open market value in this case and without a sale taking place it’s hard to say what the value is but it would be between the buying club’s top offer and the selling club’s minimum requirement. In most cases we’ll never know these figures.

People say we shouldn’t overpay. Fair enough. But the long and short is that we have mainly not been willing to pay what it takes to get enough of the right players in.

The planning is sure to be taking place but it is not realistic in terms of what it will cost to carry through with those plans.

Genuinely want this kid even more than I'd want Messi (not that Messi is ever likely to actually come here.) Never thought I'd say that but this kid is the perfect player for the most neglected position in our squad over the last 10 years.

Messi would be best for us in the no 10 role where we already have a good thing going with Bruno - that's not me saying Bruno is better than Messi before anybody jumps on me! I just think this kid provides us with a world class level for 10+ years and compliments our existing forwards perfectly, in a more pressing position.

For me it then allows us, even if it has to be in the next window, to focus on gaining top level players in the last few positions we need to such as DM and CB. We have to go for top level players to finish this squad and fulfil it's true potential.
100% agree. Looking beyond the short term, I would take Sancho over Messi without doubt.

I’m starting to think that the rumours that we deliberately delay our transfers to the last minute too save on wages is true. Surely the management of a multi billion dollar company can’t be this fecking inept at negotiations?

Well, you know that our players currently arent training (together at least) but Dortmund are. So it could be a benefit that he is training at the moment , and it could be that we want to wait until we start up training again.

That's the only thing I can think of, we're waiting so that he keeps fit and we will finally hit the button once the squad re assembles. Extremely wishful thinking though I suspect.

So what's with this statement that Mark Goldbridge is talking about on his YouTube channel regarding Manchester United sending to Phil Brown?

The statement says it won't be business as usual this transfer window due to the pandemic.

Is this horse shit or what?

I do pray that it is made up bollocks for the sake of the club.

Not a fan of De Brun but he's supposedly got sources so who knows

Apparently there are bids today for the Monaco lad from United. Maybe it's all kicking off soon. I know i'm being optimistic though

Why would they send a direct mail to some guy with a podcast? And not brief other media?

I believe most of those quotes were taken straight out of the earnings call/investors meeting.

Whats more worrying is Mark Goldbridge is still saying he expects us to sign Sancho. If that statement is real then we aren't signing anybody!

Thats my thoughts exactly. Makes no sense at all. Hopefully this Phil Brown is being trolled by someone. If he was, wouldnt he know though?

Lets just hope its false.

But on another note, im sure I speak for most of us when I say it wouldn't surprise me if its true!

Wasn't it in direct response to a podcast he did regarding United and scrutinising how we operate?
And how many articles have been written in reputable newspapers, or interviews on famous tv shows about our transfer policy? I don't buy it.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but he's gotten, directly from the club, access to various ex-Utd types and ambassadors for interviews, along with certain access when they've been on a US tour. Do you really think he'd jeopardise all that to fake a statement that says almost nothing?

I can see that he has some pull... but I can also see him being small in the big scheme of things... so he would get the same rehearsed line that we all have heard... I would be shocked if Man United didn't try to pull somebody in this summer.. If messi ends up at Man City, with Liverpool and Chelsea getting better... we need to improve.

Yes, there wasn't anything new in it. It was just repackaged for a different audience. Essentially the statement was blander than poundshop vanilla ice cream. Committed United to no particular course of action.

Agreed. He interviewed Carrick during lockdown. So someone at the club is interested in his viewership and willing to throw him a bone. First team coaching staff don't get cleared to do one to ones with everyone who asks that's for sure.

I will go a step further and say that we will not finish top four with our current squad if:

1) Liverpool stay the same
2) Man City get Messi
3) Chelsea have already made huge moves..

this leaves us fighting for fourth with clubs that at times look like they are hungrier than us (esp. in transfer markets)

Only 200 pages to cross the 1000 page mark.

Where art thou Muppets? This transfer is potentially even bigger than the Pogba signing - which easily crossed 1000 pages. Where is the enthusiasm?

Pogba had a news story like every day. And Mourinho got asked about it daily on tour. One thing to Mourinho's credit is that he rarely gave the typical "we don't talk about other clubs players" - he was as open as he could be about things without putting United in a weak negotiating position.

Whereas Sancho news has been dead for 2-3 weeks now.

If Skysports, Romano, Ducker or someone released "I understand United are close to agreeing a fee for Sancho" soon, this place would erupt. You'd get 15 pages within 20/30 minutes. Nothing like that seems close yet though.

Remember when the window just opened and there were very positive news about the deal, everyone were so surprised that this transfer was so straight forward. Fun times.

If we sign him I hope the media department are already working on a giant red billboard with Sancho and Welcome to Manchester.

People are beginning to accept that this transfer is unfortunate dead
