Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

When the deal goes through, I can see the Dortmund Twitter account saying something like..... All the best Jadon Sancho. Good luck joining a team that does not guarantee CL football every year...... or some BS like that.

Great club, but the way we seem to keep clashing with them is starting rub me the wrong way. Kind of sick of them. I hope we get Sancho, but also fine if we tell them to pound sand and move on to other players. I really would have thought Sancho would love to play at United and build something special with Rashford and Greenwood over many years.

I think it's quite obvious we will cough up the money at an internal deadline (that will be a week or two before season's start, so that he can integrate etc). Much like Maguire.

With add ons.... both parties are actively involved in conversations. Ed would want to deliver a marquee signing/ asset that's able to retain value and also would help market the club. He's 20, England international, fan-favorite already (aka Bruno) and would help repair the damaged image of himself and the Glazers. In 4 to 5 years, he could be worth 200m easy.... More importantly, he would give us a better chance of retaining our top 4 position while also challenging for the league. There's a lot riding on this deal. Hence, why we haven't walked out of the deal yet.

If it all depends on us paying 120m straight or not, then the deal is off really. Either BVB miraculously agree to lower the asking price to be nearly 80-90m upfront or it's really hard to see this going through. 120m is just way, way too much money for us.

For Mkhitaryan, Raiola was throwing chairs in Dortmund office. It wasn't very cordial at that time

I think it's a 50-50.

We've had Maguire and Pogba sagas where we eventually got them, but we've had other pursuits we haven't.
Yep the thing that swings it for me is Juve didn’t need to sell Pogba and Leicester wanted to keep Maguire where as we know Dortmund will sell anyone.

Dortmund have been distasteful, its not a matter of money. They claim a fake deadline, and then force a 3rd party negotiator which slows down the process. Then they make noise about how they plan for Sancho when they are blatantly still continuing with this negotiation "unofficially". This is not normal - Hirst said we had a cordial relationship with Dortmund and Mkhitaryan was straight forward and direct. Their approach is bemusing.

It wasn’t really cordial when Mkhi was signed. Mino apparently had to throw some chairs to get the deal done. Might not be United doing it but it involved us. Perhaps BVB is still holding a grudge and that silly tweet about Mkhi ‘enjoying the Europa’ with us

Go for Dembele On loan or Chiesa, we won't pay half as much. Nobody will buy Sancho this summer anyway and we need a RW
Loan for Dembele is better in that case imo. Buying someone will mean we have shut door on Sancho for foreseeable future. If Dembele does well, continue with him. Else we go again next summer.

So you want to be here to rub into people`s faces about how your own club was unsuccessful in pulling off a difficult transfer during a pandemic just so that you can beat down the club you claim to support just for your own personal pleasure and benefit?? And to what prove a sadistic and pedantic point that suits your angle?
Quite some supporter you are #threadbanneeded

You're reaching a bit there. I've just not got a short memory and forgotten about all the crap we've had to put up with from Woodward these last few years and I'm of this mindset not because I don't want us to sign Sancho, but because I can already see an old pattern unfolding once again. In my opinion we absolutely need this deal to happen, there's simply no alternative available that is of the same quality. I won't be rubbing anbodys nose in it if I'm right, but I'm hoping it will put pressure on Woodward once again to either feck off or sort the structure of our recruitment out once and for all, if it does go pear shaped. Too many seem to forget after a few good results or an exciting transfer saga.

That's a good point. Let's hope it pans out right.

Not looking good at all. Not sure why our relationship with Dortmund is bad.

Contrast it to when we signed Kagawa and they said it was a pleasure to work with us. There were reports not long ago that some clubs said they were sick of dealing with Woodward and wouldn't deal with him directly anymore. Perhaps that's why they've introduced intermediaries, which would make sense.

Think this'll end with us paying up in the end like with Maguire last year if the club is as hellbent on making this happen as most accounts have reported

He'd prove to be much better value for the money too

The quoted price from Barca for Dembele is loan with an obligation to buy for 90 million Euro. Considering he is rarely fit and seems to not give a toss about football even when he is fit that would be a deal that would quickly dwarf the Sanchez deal for stupidity.

677 pages

Will it hit the 1000 page milestone?

Probably
The night is young. There's almost 2 months till the end of the transfer window

The Pogba transfer saga reached 1000 pages. But we were dealing with Juventus, a classy club.
And I can recall, there was not much public comments by their executives. Even then, we paid the proper transfer fee.

Dortmund on the hand, I cannot understand why the likes of Zorc and their PR/twitter have to be so publicly obnoxious with the transfer negotiations.

Even if the Sancho transfer do happen, expect an obligatory swipe from Dortmund. I don't know how they will better the Mikhitaryan "Good luck in the Europa League" swipe though.
Well run but Classless club.

well that's the problem, isn't it? There are no alternatives, nobody comes even close ... and Dortmund know it. It's Sancho or bust.

Gareth Bale, Ousmane Dembele, Kinglsey Coman - none of these make sense. Would be on stupid money and are so injury prone it's crazy. Smacks of people just plucking obvious names and throwing them at us. Hopefully we have more creative alternatives because I don't think Sancho will happen.

I just hope our boys have a decent plan, and it's not just Sancho on there.

There was a story how we'd put the other targets on hold to concentrate on Sancho, but surely if this one has stalled for a bit, we could go and wrap another deal up?

I suppose the truth is that it's ludicrous optimistic to think we could boot 100m+ into Sancho AND buy someone else of any note the same window.
The problem here might be that the size of the potential fee with Sancho is holding up other business in that the club don't know what the remaining transfer budget will be? Whilst the Sancho deal might still potentially happen, they don't want to risk blowing it by bringing in another player for a significant amount of money.
I've never really subscribed to the idea that we only work on one deal at a time, but right now I could understand why that might be the case to a certain extent.
Personally, I feel it's time to walk away from the Sancho deal.
Also, some poster's comments about Dortmund are hilarious - how dare they refuse to bend over and accept whatever transfer fee/installment plan we give them.

The fact that BVB keep talking about it, and united have not actually said a word at all is a sign that there is clearly still things happening. Even Sanchos comment is quite inconsequential.

Not saying it will or wont happen, but clearly its not off yet.

They keep talking about it because they’re probably getting endless questions about it. It may not be off but this deal is on life support.

Stuff like this makes me think we'll get Sancho, the club wants him.

Beyond this window this is the obvious way to go when you have an academy as great as ours.

Squad players I've got no doubt we can produce enough of to allow us to focus solely on first team stars.

There’s so much gamesmanship and briefs and counter briefs and negotiations going on via the press these days that clinging to every single update is the epitome of pointless time wasting.

You lot need to just chill the feck out and let things unfold. It’ll be clear when/if anything material happens.

"Good luck in the Champions League"?

Lots of smoke and mirrors here. Does anyone actually know what United are doing or saying to Dortmund? Do we know what the player has said to his club (as opposed to what some PR officer there tries to spin)? I don't blame Dortmund for setting a deadline, if they really have, it's a seller's prerogative to set price/terms but if Sancho himself has told them he wants to go, I think the matter will move forward. If he has told them he's fine to stay for another year, that's a different matter. The player himself has been remarkably restrained in his public comments, and I think that's a good thing. If he does come, he'll be on the receiving end of some scrutiny and Woodie will get blamed for the price no matter what we pay. If he doesn't come, it will be presented in media as a 'snub' by him and a Woodie negotiating cock-up at least. We're all the playthings of the media in this - the reality is likely quite different. Patience.

No idea why they’re being such tossers about it. We haven’t said anything in public regarding it and have carried ourselves fairly. If we can’t agree on a price then so be it. Bit of a Napoleon complex I reckon.

Sancho > all alternatives. So the fact the club is adamant we want Sancho is music to my hears.

Sancho is the real deal, and will easily become our most important player, imo.

I sometimes feel Fabrizio does a lot of guesswork. I mean his info is never wrong and when deal is getting done he finds out quicker than others but nowadays he is constantly pestered for updates by fans, some fan channels have him on podcasts and he plays safe by giving generic answers. Not his fault though.

Exactly, you can't blame Dortmund.
They are quite an infuriating outfit, they develop all these quality players, and then only lay a glove on Bayern once every decade. But i suppose they can't do much about the culture over there seeing Bayern as the holy grail of clubs.

A lot of the blame if we don't get Sancho is with the player himself. Adding that extra year on his deal was such a gamechanging move in a negative way.
He should have backed himself to be targeted by a bigger club, rather than taken the easy extra money.

Probably also because before Maguire, we bought Rojo, Bailly, Lindelof, and Blind. At midfield we went for Schneiderlin, Fred, Matic, etc...

Our big money signings didn't work out, but we were still able to sell them off for good prices.

He also gets invited to a bunch of different fan podcasts. He's actually quite busy in the work that he does.

I wouldn't say that he does lots of guesswork, though. He extends on some of the info that he gets, but he doesn't veer too far.
