I'm pretty certain he's not coming now. Not even just an initial overreaction at this point. A deal is nowhere near if he is starting this game.
 
Unrelated to this transfer but Houssem Aouar and Memphis are also both scheduled to start their Ligue 1 matches for Lyon tomorrow despite being nailed on to leave this window...

I wouldn't lose my head over a club making use of their best players while they still have them

Ed will never change and MUFC will not win a major title under the Glazer's ownership.
Liverpool and City arent going anywhere and Chelsea have invested in the manner which we should have done.

How dare Dortmund not sell him for an arbitrary figure United thought up, especially after all those United briefings about impact of Covid on Dortmund.

Don't buy Sancho because Dortmund are greedy. Don't buy Haaland because his agent is mean and greedy. Don't buy Bellingham because he saw a better option elsewhere. Poor Ole.

Reports United were prepared to walk away yesterday.

And new reports Dortmund are increasingly confident he's staying today.

I see the tit for tat briefings have resumed. I reckon we'll still cough up the money they want by the end of the window.

Really don’t get why people are losing it. We’ve known from very early on that if this happens, it will be in the final week. The point has been repeated as finitum, with so many examples from the past including Berbatov, Maguire and Bruno.

I’m all for everyone losing their shit and going nuts if we don’t sign him or another credible RW, but until that point it’s useless expensed energy, better spent on mowing the lawn!

It does mean something. It means he's not coming. They're not saying he's staying, saying how important he is and playing in these types of games just to be transferred moments later.

I have no interest in German cup matches but i gonna watch just for the fun of it before the Chelsea game starts. Hoping for some body language or something from Jadon like him appearing disinterested

The thing is, there is nothing new today, it's just more people picking up on 5 day old reports. Sky Sports reported about 4 or 5 days ago that we were prepared to walk away and were looking at alternative targets. No one mentioned anything. Then Mike McGrath posted the same stuff and people are having meltdowns. If there was a genuine brief, we'd know about it and we'd know straight away. If we get a whole series of reporters tweeting the same thing tonight, then we know something has happened. A couple of journos posting nothing new isn't really anything different
 
Some of you are like chemical Ali giving a press conference that the Iraqi army would keep the American infidels off of the streets of Baghdad while American tanks were rolling down the streets behind him. I admire your blind optimism though.

Ole should walk, but he won't, the treatment of managers here has reached the point where once they scapegoat Ole they'll struggle to attract a top manager as the pattern is becoming all too clear and unlike Mourinho they wont be able to use Ole as a shield as he'll allow himself to sink with the ship.

Players can't be sold once they've played for their clubs during the transfer window, sort of like a pre-deadline deadline or something

So you think because he's starting tonight, if Ed slapped €120m on the table tomorrow and said lets do this, they'd refuse? Come on now...
It's not over until the window closes and until United put a bid in and it's accepted, he's their player and they're free to use him however they like.
 
He was always going to play today. There’s still 3 weeks to go and until Utd formally walk away/get close on another player in that position, I wouldn’t rule anything out yet.

Bottom line - no fee agreed = player plays.
 
Why would they be increasingly confident if the deadline has passed and there was absolutely no way they would sell him?

No, him starting the game means feck all. Plenty of players played for their clubs days before leaving. However the deal was never close to completion just some of our fans tried to convince themselves that it was by analysing Instagram likes and lip reading. If we pay €120m he is ours. Lack of briefing from our club that we are not interesting in him like we saw with Dybala, Griezmann etc makes me think we still work hard trying to sign him.

Don't think things like that rule out us signing Sancho. But taken in aggregate, coupled, more importantly, with the fact that there is no reported progress being made, it's looking more and more unlikely.

Sadly we know that won’t happen. We’d be competing with the dippers, Chelsea, Madrid, Barca and PSG for his signature. Sancho fancies a return home so the English clubs have the advantage.

We are taking a massive risk letting this slide into next year when we can offer champions league football this. Our failure to strengthen may cost us a top 4 place this season meaning our chances to get Sancho would worsen considerably next season.

Underestimate the scouser threat all you like but if they sell Salah of Mane to Barca or PSG, they will likely have generated enough funds to make a realistic pitch for Sancho. Mane and Salah will still have value next year and might be inclined to leave to earn one more big pay day elsewhere.
 
Oh well, it's off then. Get Bale/Costa/Perisic in for a year and we go again for Sancho next year. Get to 2000 pages.
 
I don't think he's coming because I think we've left it too late and based on media reports Dortmund will refuse to sell and we're briefing the press that we're looking at other options in preparation for the deal being announced as dead.

But I still don't understand why do people think him starting for Dortmund means it's off? All it means is we've not agreed a deal for him yet, and so he's a Dortmund player, and so he plays for Dortmund. There's countless examples every summer of players who play the first couple of games and then transfer.
