Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I'm not massively excited by him. Perhaps I haven't watched him enough and although he's the position and type of player we need I'm not convinced he will be worth the hype and money. Hope I'm wrong

Competition might not change but nothing guarantees the player will still wanna join us then. It's a gamble

Of course nothing is guaranteed, the likelihood of Sancho staying with Dortmund next summer is a gamble worth taking IMO IF we don't get top 4.

Cash is king during this uncertainty period, we should wait for the right opportunity and show our financial strengths when some clubs might be more desperate to sell.

Glazers are a fecking disgrace, if they don't get Ole this deal and lumber him with a bum like Costa, Bale or Perisic then he should have a free hit sesson, no top 4 requirement to keep his job. First they lumped him with Igalho instead of Haaland and now this bullshit.

20 years old, the best young winger in the world, not exciting?

The meltdown is going to be pretty incredible when Sancho stays this year and moves to the dippers next summer.

I think that is a bit too logical for Manutd. It makes no sense to sign him next season.

Will our finances improve? Not really
Will more teams potentially be in for him? Yes
Will we have a clean run? No
Will we offer him a good project? Never know, if this season fails then we automatically get out of the race.
Will he be cheaper? No

Waiting to sign him for next season makes no commercial or footballing sense. Not only we secure one of the best footballing talents but we could be building a squad to challenge sooner.

What happens if we dont sign a top CB and DM this summer? Same problems will come about next.. Can we afford Sancho and CB/CDM in one summer?
I genuinely don't get this line of thinking.

If it did get down to next year, we'd still be well in the mix for him and I'd back us to get him ahead of anyone. We got ahead of everyone else before the markets were fecked and we are relatively more insulated than the rest right now thanks to our commercial strength. If it comes to a sale next year, the price will drop down as Dortmund won't be having any capacity crowds in either and unlike us, are dependent on gate receipts to a much higher degree. Sancho's priorities, according to Ornstein, are firstly CL footy and financial package. For me the first is 70% likely, and the second is guaranteed. As I said, we blew the rest out of the water pre-Covid and that was at a time when we were really struggling on the pitch, and if our financial position won't improve, neither will it for the rest. In fact, if we managed to get agreement on wages and contract etc just last week, shouldn't that tell you that the package required to bring him in wouldn't be posing us any problems?

Is it a risk that we don't get CL footy next season? Maybe, but I'd back our midfield and attack against any defence and opposition midfield in a one-off game and the strength of those two would see us overcome the vast majority of other teams and unlike last year where Pereira and Lingard were among our most played players, we'll have Bruno and Greenwood from the start as well as a fit and fresh Pogba and Rashford. For me, it's a given that we'd improve this coming season, but that having Sancho in now, would have seen that margin of improvement increase markedly.

We only really have VdB as option to come in for Bruno. Rest all are marked drop in quality. Cant expect to win anything with just 5 quality players for 4 attacking positions, one of whom is an 18 y/o in 3rd season.

I get the excitement among others, Im only basing my opinion on when I've seen him myself. He's clearly very talented I just don't hold him in the same regard as others but again will be absolutely delighted to be proven wrong and would sooner see us overpay than see the glazers keep the clubs money

People who have seen him more than me are obviously better placed to make a judgement

I was certain that he was going to be the big PL addition this summer
Yeah it's crazy all of my mates who support other teams just accepted that Sancho was coming to United as did most of the English press. It's just down to our board's naivety in think Dortmund would lower their demands in times of covid.

and they didn’t pay up for bellingham. Whether people want to admit it or not. The glazers and their randomness is a handicap to any manager. It’s making a hard job even harder.

Yeah, struggling to pay 30m for Thiago but will suddenly cough up the finances required for a £120m fee exclusive of wages and agent fees :wenger:

They are scitzo, they paid up a ludicrous fee for Maguire but won't shell out for one of the best attacking talents in the world who is also only 20 and incredibly marketable.

The only way the squad players will have a lasting negative impact on our season is if something went horribly wrong and the likes of Rashford, Pogba, Bruno, and Martial had multiple long spells out at the same time. Things like that happen very rarely. If it happens again so soon after it happened last year, then lightening really did strike twice.

Last season was a season of progression from a very low base. This year, it will be another season of progress but from a much improved base line. You just have to look at the age profiles of the squad to see that the more they play together, the more consistent and improved they will be. If Sancho doesn't come in, I believe that we will improve still, but not to the extent I had hoped for after last season ended.

Everything changes if they allow one of Salah or Mane to leave next summer, which they might just do to refresh the front 3.
And who is going to pay for either one of them? Certainly not a Prem club and certainly not an Italian club. Bayern are set and Madrid will likely have eyes only for Mbappe. And Barca, well we all know where they are right now...

In any case, Liverpool's window for a lucrative sale for both of them has closed as far as I'm concerned. Their productivity has only been trending downwards ever since that freakish first season they had together. Sure they'll have the odd good individual game, but it won't be anything like it was before.

Whether or not it's us that get him next summer, dortmund simply won't get near the 120m they want this summer. A strong stance to take in a time of such financial uncertainty for clubs.

Dortmund wont get more than what we offer from another club except from us.

Imagine we end up offering them the full 120m fee now and they reject because it's too late and they weren't bluffing. All when we could have just wrapped it up months ago with the same bid.

In terms of incompetence that would rival the summer where we bought Fellaini for more than his release clause

I don't see how this happens now to be honest, the words coming out of United are we're looking at alternatives and Dortmund have even took to briefing English media that this won't happen because it's too late in the window. Real shame because we're crying out for a top level attacking player.

Do you realise that there hasn't been a single official communication on the Sancho topic coming from the club and all these "briefs" you refer to are media clickbait that you, as well as many other fans, assume are coming from the club?

Also, do you not understand how much money £1m is? How many people working at United make £50k/year do you think? Imagine the non-sporting staff. £1m is 20 of those being paid for a full year. So, bringing that price by just a single million secures the jobs of 20 relatively high paid employees. And if they reduce it with £5m? That's 100 people.

Finally, consider Sancho's wages. If we did sign him in July and paid him £200k/week (reportedly he will be on more than that) then by now we would have paid him at least 10x£200k = £2m. Without having even played a single official game.

I, for one, do not blame the club taking their time to reduce the fee and delay spending such insane amounts of money until it is absolutely necessary.

Be careful. We don’t see many thoughtful and rational posts on the Caf, let alone in a transfer thread.

It’s as if some people can’t get their head around how much the pandemic affects football clubs. Utd lose £5m in revenue for every home league game that’s played behind closed doors.

According to my sources Jadon Sancho has a neighbour who has a goldfish, the goldfish has been blowing bubbles in morse code, the fish has been spelling Manchester United for the last 3 days.

Of course Jadons neighbour might not have a goldfish, merely speculation

The bubbles have alerted hammers fans and consequently hammers scouts of a player who was not on the clubs scouting radar and after careful consideration by Karen Brady.. is still not on the clubs scouting radar.

It's not hyperbole to say this will be the most embarrassing non transfer in recent history for the club. All other transfer sagas are a drop in the ocean compared to this

I’m not one to get carried away by these transfer ‘sagas’ but these briefs regular get churned out before we eventually sign the player anyway (Fernandes and Maguire, more recently).

Meh.

BBC and now the Times. If the likes of Ducker come into it as well, I think it’s more than likely over
Add Luckhurst from the MEN into the list. He posted a similar article 6 hours back though didn't name-drop any alternatives.

So Woody not only wants to pay when he wants to pay, but also wants them to lower the price. Big clubs need CEOs with big bollocks.

Feels like the briefs are yet again more posturing from Man United and that we don't really view any of the alternatives as realistic options.

This will drag on for a bit most certainly.
Main reason why I suspect we haven't see the last of this yet this month given that all the alternatives aren't realistic at all.

Bayern won't get rid of Coman and Real and their fans are also quite literally begging for us to free them of Bale and his exorbitant wages which should set off all the red flags possible for Ole...

Any alternative from the Premier League will also be vastly overpriced if we're looking to be cheap
