United still dicking around in year 2 of talks to finalize Sancho whereas City look well prepared to spend £200m to bring in both Kane+Grealish :boring: :wenger: :(

& then we act shocked as to why we’re so much further behind of them. Well duhhh, we work twice as slow as they do! AKA take twice as long as to catch up to them. Rinse and repeat - always behind the 8ball !

We don't have oil wells and a nation state with a shit tonne of money backing us.

Not only that, it's gross negligence and potentially career altering to have him continually play when he has multiple injuries in need of repair. Poor guy has had a gamut for his age: back, shoulder, ankle. We've rushed him back, and had to keep playing him when it was clear he shouldn't be out there and that really needs to stop now or he'll be ruined in his mid to late 20's.

If Martial's not on his way, Rashford should be going to get the necessary operation(s?) and treatment and allowed the full period of recovery. If Martial is sold, I really hope Ole has faith in Sancho, Greenwood and Amad with Pogba going up to the left side of attack if necessary. If Rashford starts the season a month or two after everyone else, so be it. There's evidently a massive discrepancy between him in his fully fit state (the season before last) and playing injured, so ultimately it's beneficial to the team for him to get sorted once and for all.
Fully agreed, but I think the problem is Marcus's mentality just as much as it is the club rushing him back. He puts himself forward time and time again, he's on record as saying he'll rest when he retires, etc. That sort of mentality is amazing but it needs moderating. If Sancho comes in, then Rashford should allow that to be the opportunity for him to take the rest period he needs to fully heal himself. Pogba can ably deputise on the left and Sancho will take the RW. A fresh Rashford comes in a just before Christmas and the World Cup and he can then take over the show.

Most likely yes, though that doesn't mean that Bayern would be willing to spend the same amount of money as we are spending, as their needs aren't as pressing as ours.

What say yous? @Hansi Fick
I don't like the framing of that question. I'm happy with the players we have, not going to virtually bench them or throw them out for a hypothetical.

If the question is, does Sancho have the quality to become a starter for Bayern?
Then the answer is, 100% yes.

Well they've been turned down for Kane and Villa have no intention to sell Grealish, you can make bids all you want if you know its gonna get turned down,

If all reports were true Utd have bid for 30 players every transfer window

Shameless pro-glazers ready made excuse. Look at both United’s+City’s spending over the last 10 years or so, it’s almost identical.

United had a lot more misses than hits, especially pre-Olé. United also don’t give consistent backing to their managers every year (ala for some reason don’t back managers during their 2nd years which always has us playing catch up and at a disadvantage).

...don’t let whatever reason it is get in the way of excusing the incompetence of the United board. We are well off compared to 99% of clubs in the world and are blatantly atrocious when it comes to transfer efficiency.

It's a fact, we're owned by cnuts that are a strain on our financials and they aren't going to fork out a fortune to finance player signings. They've saddled us with debt and are making a fortune in yearly dividends. Completely on the opposite scale compared to Citys owners, one of the worst regimes in the world. So it's hardly much of a surprise, especially after covid-19 and the economical disaster that has followed, that we aren't going to pay more than we actually have to, and that paying too much up front is going to be a heavy strain on our cash flow and could potentially effect our ability to strengthen other areas. Some clubs are easier to negotiate with, like Liverpool signing Jota for very little up front, whereas Dortmund are seemingly unwilling to accept structured deals, wanting the vast majority up front. If you consider any of the above as a shameless pro-glazer ready made excuse, then by all means.

In terms of almost identical spending, they've spent over £200mill more than us over the past 5 seasons. The past 10 years it's little over £300mill, which equates to 1/3rd of what we've spent.

In terms of consistent backing, stop making things up to suit your own fictions.

But presumably Matthaus is a German fan. England playing Germany. It's a trap!

He is highly rated by many german pundits,.media and ex players. I didn't follow him week in week out but one thing I always see is how highly they talk about sancho. Maybe he is that damn good.

The manager needs to manage no matter what Rashford wants, as it's his job navigate the player over a career and not just the immediate future. Rashford talks like you'd expect someone of that age to; Ole should know all the tricks and naive optimism having been a young pro once himself.

Most young athletes don't see a bigger picture than the immediacy of the present, which is part of where those handling/managing them earn a good part of their coin in steering and overruling them as required. Marcus will be thanking Ole when he's in his early 30's and still fit as a fiddle ;)

The full Athletic article

Manchester United have made further progress in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jadon Sancho and although a deal is not yet done, the two clubs are understood to be nearing an agreement.

United have been chasing Sancho, who is currently with the England squad for Euro 2020, for an extended period. Discussions stalled 12 months ago when Dortmund demanded €120 million (£110 million) for the England winger, without room for manoeuvre.

But there has been more willingness to find a solution this summer and it is understood the haggling is now down to single-digit millions, with an expectation an agreement will happen.

Dortmund initially pushed for close to €100 million, yet have more recently indicated a willingness to do a deal at €95 million.

United’s first offer was based on a guaranteed €78 million, with a second bid this week proposing €85 million.

A compromise is needed and sources feel a fee of around €90 million would clinch the deal. Instalments and add-ons are also under discussion, due to tight budgets at United.

An agreement could be reached during the European Championship, with the formal side of the transfer resolved post-tournament. COVID-19 bubbles are an issue for medicals, for example.

Sancho is also focused on his role for England, so there is not a major rush to resolve his future during the competition. But all sides are working to a timely conclusion.
The 21-year-old will be hoping for more involvement at the Euros during the knockout stages. He has made just one appearance for Gareth Southgate’s side so far at the competition.

Sancho has, however, starred for Dortmund since making the switch in the summer of 2017. He has scored 50 goals in 137 appearances for the German giants. He also helped them win the German Cup last season.

Sancho finished the season on a hot streak of 13 goals in his last 21 games for Dortmund.

The Camberwell-born forward began his career at Watford before joining Manchester City in 2015. He spent two years there before making the switch to Germany.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear he wants his squad strengthening this summer after his side finished second in the Premier League.
Solskjaer has said: “If we want to take up the challenge with Manchester City, we need to strengthen our squad.”

Talks over Kieran Trippier, though, have cooled. United had expressed a willingness to bid £10 million for the England full-back but Atletico Madrid are said to be holding out for £28 million, with sources indicating he has two years left on his deal in the Spanish capital.

Diogo Dalot, who came on during Portugal against France, is being mentioned as a viable right-back option in discussions with clubs enquiring about United’s requirements in the market. Dalot spent last season on loan at AC Milan.
Brandon Williams, meanwhile, is available on loan.

There are also ongoing talks with Paul Pogba over a new contract. But there is an expectation they will take time, with all options open to the player. United want him to stay.

Tomorrow’s massive - we are going to get even closer

We’ve been spending 150 million a year since Ole came in. It’s consistent and it’s a lot. It’s certainly enough to sustain a challenging team because top players obviously do want to come here. It’s not like we are spending it on 8 punt players every window and hoping for the best. It seems like we’ve massively streamlined the recruitment to a point where it’s all hits or useful squad players at least. We just need to trim the fat that bit more aggressively and stop with the stupid contracts clogging up the squad. Keep signing young lads and loanin them out and sell the ones that don’t make it. We will easily sell someone like Pellistri for double or even treble if he keeps improving out on loan for example instead of sitting on him for years like Chong and loaning them almost as a last resort. We are moving in the right direction.

Sanchooooo

It’ll be Haaland next. Mark my words!

I consider this as good as done. Now i’m concern about whether we can get Varane. Hopefully he’s convinced to come and we have his mate Pogba here

Sancho, Varane and possibly third one... honestly this could be almost good as summer 2007.

That's not how it works.

Quite right, Sancho has to own a German Shepherd dog like some of the Republic Of Ireland's players in the 1980s had to own an Irish Wolfhound to be regarded Irish even though they were born in England.

Sure, but his game time will be on the expense or shared among other players such as Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho. I just don’t see Ole willing to do so, as both are young, English and are his favourites, and Ole does not tend to rotate his key players. Should Pogba stay he would be preferred on the left sometimes too, which would further limit Diallo’s game time. And assume we sell Martial in future there will be surely replacement who should be better.

Any this would be order of our priority for front 3:

1. Sancho (RW, LW)
2. Rashford (LW, FW)
3. Greenwood (RW, FW)
4. Cavani (FW)
5. Martial (FW, LW)
6. Pogba (LW)
7. Diallo (RW)
Quite a lot of depth this especially considering it doesn't include Mata or James
