Problem is that both Pirlo and Zidane won WC whereas Slippy didn't win Premier League and on top of that he slipped.

I don't really see any sense in your comparison to be fair. You're saying that Scholes never played the main role in some major win (which in itself can be pretty debatable given that we all know how our midfield looked once he was gone) whereas, I assume, Gerrard did but at the same time you're trying to discard the fact that Scholes never played the main role in our downfall in some major game/competition whereas Gerrard did.

Roberto Baggio skied a penalty in the world cup final.. Should that go against him for the rest of his life? No make no sense!! I'm not arguing the better player i'm arguing the fact people like to thing Gerrard is not a great, up there with Paul Scholes.. Easily at that too.

Brilliant player when fit. I would have him here on loan. No i'm not joking. He is a great impact sub, coming on a driving the midfield forward when searching for a goal. If he's injured all season, oh well, just give him back at the end of the season. I know its not going to happen but I like him as a player and think it would be worth a punt.

Leicester seem to be looking for a midfielder, the need bodies too with champions league. To me this is the best move for him, plenty of games to play and ample oppourtunity to rotate in and out and try managing his injurys, would be working under a good manager too.

Its a real shame he gets injured so much, hes a quality little player when hes fit and on form. Wenger is doing the right thing by him.

Also, who said that the only downside to Scholes was his rash tackling? To me this was one of his best qualitys. Not many more satisfying things in football than a miss timed scholes tackle! I miss him.

Hope the cnuts career peters out and he rots somewhere tbh. Can't stand the little shit.

One of those where Arsene can say it was all part of his masterplan if he plays every game on loan and comes back like a new player, but have a decent excuse to let him go/play him less often if he stays the same as he is now while on loan. Or, knowing Wenger, he'll almost never play due to injuries, come back to Arsenal and immediately find himself heralded as being like a new signing, ignoring the fact he wouldn't have signed him as a new player in the state he's currently in.

As a tribute to gene wilder city should pair wilshere With aguero and form the Manchester city umpa lumpa appreciation society

Yes he's not a patch on Wilshere. Just a squad player.

He's not as creative as Jack but Elneny is far from a crab. One of the most competent midfielders in the league for me. The fact he's a squad player for Arsenal just demonstrates the abundance of talent they already have in that position.

Roma would be an awful move imo. I'm not sure he's going to start. Roma have Nainggolan, De Rossi and Strootman. He needs a prem loan IMO.

Breaking News: Jack Wilshere just injured himself falling out of the transfer window!

*pinched*

don't like the guy, but can't help think it would be absolutely hilarious if he went to Juve and won more trophies than he has at Arsenal.

It's indicative of the dire, lazy attitude of English footballers refusing to expand their horizons which has led to the national team being so appalling. Nearly every other country England play in major tournaments are full of players who have left home and broadened their horizons in leagues across the world. Turning down AC Milan and Roma, as reported, for Bournemouth is laughable.

Roma already have a great midfield, Milan are a mess, and he has 2 kids from a separated relationship so he can't just take them with him and its hardly surprising that a father doesn't want to live in a different country to his kids.

Well it's not, really. This move isn't about looking impressive to nackerjack football fans. It's about playing regular football and staying fit.

It's a lot easier to do that at Bournemouth. He'll be playing under a good coach like Eddie Howe, he'll be guaranteed regular games and he doesn't have to adapt to a new country for the sake of eight months. He clearly has an Arsenal future going forward and this year is all about getting back on track. He's 24 and hasn't the time to take risks.

I don't buy that for a second. He's happy to be a big fish in a small pool rather than challenge himself.

That's not a decision a player makes on his own when he's under contract. He wanted to play regularly and he agreed with his manager that a loan move to another club would suit him for a year. The notion that a player isn't challenging himself because of previous setbacks is silly.

He goes to Milan and makes an impact he has restored his reputation, if it doesn't work he will still be highly regarded in England, same with Roma. He goes to Bournemouth and does well it impresses no-one because he's playing for a team happy to avoid relegation.

Not sure why he's getting shit here.

Bournemouth is a chance for him to play as an 8 in a 4-4-2 on a team that plays good football, which seems likely to be his best position. If he'd gone to Roma he might have been buried. Milan are a mess too and not in Europe. Palace would have made more sense but Howe is the most passing friendly coach in the league apart from Guardiola and maybe Wenger.

Playing for a team not in Europe probably makes sense with his injury record, too. Seems like a logical way to get his career back on track.

If he's playing well every week in a 2-man midfield for a team with few resources and they stay up playing technically strong football, he'll impress a lot of people.

He doesn't need to impress anyone, he needs game time. Wenger already know how good he is and his opinion is all that matters. Reports are Wenger declined Roma's offer anyway.

Haven't Bournemouth been playing with a 4141? Think he'll do a lot better in that formation.

He wants and needs to play. Feck "big fish in small pond".

Decent move for him, but my goodness how the mighty have fallen. Who would've predicted this a few years ago!

I think they do both. Either King is out wide and it's a 4-1-4-1 or he's up front, Fraser is in the midfield 3 and it's a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2.

So, my guess is Wilshere maybe it'll be more 4-1-4-1 with Surman sitting and Wilshere partnered with Arter ahead of him, Wilson up top, Ibe on one wing and Fraser and King fighting it out for the other side. But easy enough to drop Arter and throw King up top when they need a goal or are at home or whenever Howe fancies his team.
