@JackRodwell26 hey! Yeah it would seem my injury is worse than yours haha. I've been trying to walk on it for 10 days too.

Odd Spot. Just at Euston and spotted Jack Rodwell in full #eng tracksuit on crutches heading down to Liverpool train platform. Any ideas?
He`s again injured  :(

Once again, his performance yesterday did nothing to change my impression of him. He just looks a passenger in midfield. The game seems to just pass him by. He just never seems to want to get involved, he just runs around in midfield. Its like he gets one touch every 10-15 minutes. You can bring up this young and learning argument all you want, but at least get involved in the game.

These are my thoughts every time I watch him. Just sits there and watches the game go buy. Doesn't seem to want the ball and doesn't seem to be able to win it back easily either.

My bet is on Rodwell converting to a CB... Thats if we got him.

Rio's replacement is right here. Just my 2 cents.

He does not need to convert to play as a CB. He can play in both positions - defensive midfield and central defense, but he prefers to play as a central defender.

He is going to be a class act, just needs patience and maturing

There is no doubt he has a lot of potential. Him playing well, maturing or reaching his full potential is not as important at this age as taking care of his injuries and find a way to stay fit. He has been getting injured of late a lot.

No he doesn't. He's played there for England U-21s but never in the league. I've never seen him play any senior Everton game in defence, but people keep repeating the "he's a natural central defender" line - based on no evidence at all:

Rodwell: "At the moment, I prefer playing as a box-to-box midfielder. That is how I have been operating for Everton and I can see myself doing it for a while yet.

I'd say my favoured position was that holding role in midfield. I am happy to carry on there.

'I don't think there's any need for me to drop back into central defence yet. Maybe it will happen in a few years, when I have gained more experience and maturity.

'It's hard to play a lad of my age at centre half in the Premier League where you come across the likes of Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres. That would be a tough ask for any teenager so I'm more than content where I am."

Meaning that if he moved to us, he wouldn't be playing DM anymore.

We wouldn't need him there unless we lost O'Shea or something. If he's going to turn into a class act defender then leave him there.

He has the potential to turn into a top class CB, MF would be a difficult feat, but if he can accomplish it then good luck to him.

Again, the "he can turn into a top class centre back" line. Can I ask where people get this impression from? It seems based on nothing to me. How do people seem so sure when he's hardly ever played there. Can you tell me what games people have seen him play in the centre of defence that they've based this opinion on?

i seriousley do not get this thing with jack rodwell. he isnt even first choice at everton.
im not one of these who craics on that i watch every single game in every single league (like some of the dicks on here) so admittedley i have not seen a great deal of him. what i have seen he's looked ok. potentially could be a good / very good player. he has the advantage of being a big, strong lad but what has he done to justify a £25m price tag???? mehmut ozil and rafael van der vaart moved for a combined fee of around £25m last summer. i appreciate that they where out of contract/favour AND the price for the latter would have been more had we shown interest. But what i suppose im trying to say is that i would be absolutley devestated if we shelled out £25m on rodwell, as for £40 for him and henderson?????? We have got to be looking at better players than those two!!!!!!

I maybe wrong and the great man may see potential in them that i dont and they could go on to be topclass players but at the minute, and i think for the next few years a midfield pairing of anderson and fletcher would dominate a midfield pairing of rodwell and henderson.

i am all for siginging young english talent. but we are talking about replacing world class players in scholes and giggs (and keane still to a certain extent) so i would like us this year to shell out some serious money on a central midfield player who is first choice. somebody who is going to be our main man, number on central midfielder. ideally a 24 year old roy keane but as thats not possible i dont know who the answer is. but in my opinion, rodwell isnt and henderson certainly isnt.

as for this "he will be a top centre half" thats bollox

it annoys the life out of me that people think that big strong players who arent good enough to play centre midfield will be a good centra half. i think its insulting to top centre halfs. they have a skilll and desire that can not be taught.

Well I think he is the type of player we should be buying good young english midfielder with a lot of potential. People saying they don't see what the deal is what Jack needs is some flashy youtube vids to convince everyone. Many of us in here have seen this kid play for the last few years at all levels in actual games not youtube there is a reason why we are interested in him.

are we?? you have seen him at all levels have you???

again i havent seen much of paul pogba but i have read interviews with fergie, the coaching staff and senior players who have all raved about the lad. signing rodwell (who may not be as good both presently or potentially) would reduce game time for pogba, tunnicliffe and the other young lads coming through. so, if rodwells case we would be shelling out in excess of £20m for pure potential. id rather trust in out own potential currently at the club and put the £20m towards signing a genuine superstar midfielder!!!!

For Rodwell read the next Jermaine Jenas.

Aye. I see a great deal in common between the Jenas that played well for Forrest for 3 months and first couple of seasons at Newcastle with young Mr. Rodwell here. Both have great engines, can run up and down the field all day. Are capable of popping up with a goal or two, share a bit of enthusiasm but ultimately are players that had it not been for their physical attributes would struggle to command midfield slots at the higher echelons of world football.

Obviously Rodwell has plenty of time to improve on the finer aspects of the game but I am inclined to believe that he will not amount to anything better than another Jermaine Jenas. Now different people rate players differently but IMO he is not what need. We already have a Jenas type player in Fletcher (better than Jenas IMO) and are crying out for a different dimension to our midfield options.

So no thanks

Fair enough lad.

Rodwell's a holding midfielder with maturity and a presence that is impressive - neither of which you could apply to Jenas.

I don't think he's anything like Fletcher.

He is really nothing like Jenas.

Sure he is. Light skin, English, plays in midfield.

They're practically the same person.

He is going to be a class act, just needs patience and maturing

The physios seems to believe that he's got a bright future ahead while its rumored that Owen Hargreaves had said that he sees him as his natural successor. ;)

If you're good enough you'll play. Simple.

I would have thought Rodwell would be penciled in for the holding role(if he is not needed in defense) with Pogba maybe playing a little further forward due to his eye for a goal like in the same way Real Madrid for example play with either Diarra or Khedira doing the holding sometimes while Alonso plays a little further forward! Rodwell is looking like a bit of a sick note though!
