Jack Rodwell could join Manchester United if right offer is made - Moyes

Everton manager David Moyes has conceded Jack Rodwell could join Manchester United in the summer if Sir Alex Ferguson offers the right amount of money for the talented midfielder.

The 20-year-old midfielder has attracted attention from a host of Premier League clubs and is expected to be the subject of a fierce bidding war in the summer transfer window.

Ferguson is believed to be a keen fan of Rodwell and is set to offer Everton around £25million for their star midfielder, an offer he feels will be too good to turn down.

Moyes is desperate to hold onto Rodwell and the rest of his star players, but has conceded if the offer is good enough he would have to let his players leave.

‘I am reluctant to sell my best players,’ Moyes remarked.

‘I don’t see that as being good for any manager, but I also understand that there may be financial situations which might mean that has to be the case.’

Moyes marked nine years in charge of Everton today, continuing one of the longest managerial reins in the club’s history.

In the Premier League, only Ferguson and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger have been in their jobs longer and Moyes admitted the pair would be happy to give him advance if he ever wanted it.

‘I could quite easily go to Arsene and Alex and ask how they do it. Both are very competitive, but they also want to help younger managers,’ he said.

Everton take on Fulham in the Premier League, with the Toffees currently ninth in the league table.

So that whole article is based on one obvious vague statement that any manager of any club could have said.

Well, they're in financial problems so they're more likely to take a decent offer for their youngster, who while he has a lot of potential is not that big of an asset to the club now and might never fulfil his promise.

We could probably get him for around 15 million imo.

Jack Rodwell will not join Manchester United, says Everton boss David Moyes | Mail Online

Everton manager David Moyes has stressed they are not a selling club and dismissed suggestions a deal to sell midfielder Jack Rodwell to Manchester United has already been agreed.

The 20-year-old has been linked to a mega move to Old Trafford in the summer.

But Moyes said that was 'rubbish' as the club wanted to hang on to their best players.

'I don't know where all the talk has come from of a deal being done with Manchester United because that is a load of rubbish, a complete untruth,' he said.

'It is definitely not the case so if anyone wants to come in and disprove me they should do so.

'Stop telling people the wrong things in the media. The media have a responsibility to tell people the facts.

'There has been no contact and we want to keep him at the club for a long time and I have no reason to suggest anything else.

'We have let two players go in my time in Wayne Rooney (to United) and Joleon Lescott (to Manchester City) who I couldn't keep hold of.

'Steven Pienaar (sold to Tottenham in January) was coming out of contract and we got an offer, otherwise we wouldn't have let him go.

'All the other ones in the time I have been here we have felt it was the right time for them to go. We will only let people go if we think it is the right thing to do.'

Man City will be offering City stupid money to buy him so I wont count my chickens on this one!

I think Saf will convince him to come to United in the end the players decision matters most, at such a young point in his career United can offer him riches to such an extent that I dont think it will matter that City offer more money to him, it will make him 20 million pounds though which is more than hed be if they werent sniffing about but I like the looks of him as a player

I have this funny feeling that Rodwell will end up the new Joe Cole ie a player who had been linked for us for much of his career and whom we will never sign. I mean think about it. The talent is there but he's been a bit of injury prone lately. Considering that Carroll signed for Liverpool for 35m, can you see United splashing 25m for Rodwell?

The Carroll fee shouldn't really be used as an example if we're signing Rodwell. The situations were totally different. We actually have some recognised midfielders in the squad, have the whole summer to get it sorted and currently the hype isn't as big as it was for Carroll.

He'll probably cost around £15m, maybe £20m if you're pushing it.

- managers don't always tell the truth
- He varies his story every few days: first he's (Rodwell) not for sale, then we will sell him if the price is right ect. These stories have come with quotes
- why has he been so vocal about Rodwell in the past few weeks?

Because the papers keep linking him to us and I guess the media keep bugging Moyes about what is going on between us and Everton.

Would you guys spend £25m if it was around £10/15m upfront with the rest in success related bonuses? That's how we usually do business, but when the papers report on "RODWELL SIGNS FOR £25M!!!" it would cause an uproar. Smalling wasn't even £10m upfront, and look how well that looks like working out.

If it was around £10-15m with a further £10m in clauses (winning leagues, Europe, appearances for Utd or England etc.) I'd be happy enough, but I think paying a full £25m up front would be over the top.

To be honest I don't think City will be after him as they have a good selection of defensive midfielders, although they may do it just so we cannot buy him. Guess they would be sending Barry or de Jong the opposite way.

Everton has stated that they don't need to sell. Considering that he's young, English, and a bit hyped + we're Manchester United) his fee may easily go beyond the 20m mark

Ofcourse they'll say that they don't need to sell, as they wouldn't want Rodwell's price to go lower however the reality is that Everton are in a dire financial state and seriously need reinforcements, if they want to do well next season. I'm guessing they'll sell either one of Rodwell or Felliani this season and buy the money from that proceeds, just like they did with the sale of Lescott.

What they say and the reality are two very different things. To survive and keep progressing Everton have to sell Rodwell next summer. Or they will not be able to strengthen at all in the summer.

I think that they will be selling Rodwell. It makes sense to sell him now considering that there are concerns that he is a bit of injury prone. On the other hand rest assured that they wont be selling him on cheap. I think it would be around the 20-25m mark.

Like a hundred other players before him?

City don't need him at all and wont go for him. It's players like Hamsik, Pastore and Snejider they will be going after.

This is not true at all. City would love him as he has marketable good looks and is the type of signing that would boost the clubs image. City would definitely be aware that he has a good chance of eventually becoming a better player than De Jong also so they will be going nuts to get him I would imagine.

Not to forget that with the new 25 player limit rule English players are suddenly more valuable then before

Spot on Chief, everybody knows Everton need an established goalscorer, much more so than a developing midfielder. They will sell in the summer, Moyes knows he needs serious money to buy the type of striker necessary to make a difference.

So Utd will probably have to pay a little over the odds but i have a good feeling about Rodwell and like Smalling before him would present a risk, but for such obvious talent, one well worth taking.

The only reason City would want him is to stop us getting him, because if good looks were relevant they wouldn't have signed Tevez.

What will boost the club's image more than anything is winning trophies, for that they need players who can produce the goods now and take them to the next level, not by signing potential replacements for a 26 yr old De Jong!

Furthermore, while he was waiting for De Jong to retire, he would also have to contend against Yaya Toure, Barry and Milner for a CM spot. Much more likely he would opt for a move to OT, as he would not really have to play that well to cement a first team spot in our midfield.

Come on.

Firstly, De Jong is the best destroyer in the business. He isn't old either, they don't nee an expensive English talent backing him up when they have Johnson on there books, .

Second, they do not need him at all. They have De Jong, Barry, Toure, Vieira and Johnson for that same role he plays. What they most certainly lack instead is an attacking midfielder who can operate in there favoured 4-3-3 and occasional use of 4-4-2b as a play maker. That is why they've been chasing Hamsik for a while now. Players like that, Pastore and Sneijder are dead certs to be on their radar next summer.

Where has this hype surrounding him come from? He's not had that many games under his belt, not seen any amazing performances apart from a couple of u19 or u21 or whatever england outing?

young, english, a big unit, versatile, not bad technique for an englishman (with his size especially). I've never thought he's the second coming like some on here, but if it is gibson + 15 million, sure why not have a punt.

Once again, his performance yesterday did nothing to change my impression of him. He just looks a passenger in midfield. The game seems to just pass him by. He just never seems to want to get involved, he just runs around in midfield. Its like he gets one touch every 10-15 minutes. You can bring up this young and learning argument all you want, but at least get involved in the game.
