Jack Grealish | Man City

Shame we didn’t want him. He would have been legendary for us.

Feck it. Great summer for us so far; give us one more signing and it’s time to knock City off their perch. :wenger:

Some bullshit though. How often have we seen players like this sold and replaced by several and its a complete bust? Bale, coutinho etc

I meant more the part about being so open with the release clause and all that. But even the signings, it’s good to know how the club is thinking, even if the thinking is flawed.

I never ever want to hear Pep or any of that lot complaining about fees and wages ever again, holy feck what a windfall for him and Villa.

Almost certain the media pressure on him won't be anywhere near as bad as some of the other high profile signings we've seen lately

I mean, at least Maguire came in and was an automatic starter and huge upgrade, yet we were ridiculed for 1,5 year for overpaying .

Grealish, which arguably is neither of those things for City and as little decorated as Maguire was but cost £20 m more, what happens? City is almost praised by the media because everyone is so used to them overpaying and just somehow accept it for them.

Then Kane for 120m and Lukaku for 100m

Oil clubs are really destroying the fabric here and media is just turning their blind eye to it.

Its actually sad.
He's better than Foden in my opinion - I think he'll be excellent for them sadly and take the former's spot after a stint at false 9.

United will always be centre of attention for the media whilst we generate enough clicks - no one cares that City paid 100m for Grealish, it might as well be random numbers in any order because if he flops they'll just buy someone else for the same price. Take it as a compliment, you'd rather have every move scrutinised than be seen as an ATM.

Its open it's because they have a nightmare fanbase who are boiling over because they thought they were on the way to champions league football - they call it project villa. I get what he is saying but Its The concept of moneyball in baseball applied to football but it doesnt seem to work. Ings bailey and buendia will keep them where they are. But financially etc being reliably mid table season after season is a good return for a club like Villa

Fitting him into their lineup would mean either having someone play as a false nine (my money would be on Sterling), or dropping one of Mahrez or Foden if they want to play an actual striker. The latter player seems to be unlikely considering how well he's thought of, but it also seemed to me that Mahrez did relatively well last season.

The likelihood of them also signing Kane this window seems less likely unless they feel the need to outright spit in the face of the much maligned (and rightly so) FFP.

Also, would City rather relentlessly attack and score, or win countless free kicks while giving teams time to regroup?

Will Grealish continue to thrive in a club where he definitely isn't the biggest star or considered the saviour of the team?

Either way I find myself curious as to how he'll do for them.

Absolute ridiculous wage for a player who's never played continental football.

That is bonkers isn't it.

Overpriced of course but the money is nothing to City, very good player who will improve them further - I think they’ll try and make him their “Iniesta” type player

no shit....he was whining at the beginning of the summer about not having the money to go purchase a striker yet they spend 215m on a guy that is just a redundant type of player. He's a damn good player but they already have mahrez, foden, sterling, silva(who probably gets sold now), KdB, Ferran Torres who play the same role....good luck being a young player at City trying to make it into the first team.

the only thing that really upsets me is that we paid 11% of the 100 million pound fee

That's got to piss out a few of the players if this guy is on KdB type of money and he's never played CL football and isn't a first XI player for his country. Have a feeling there will be some interesting contract renewals coming up for City.

He's going to have to really step it up to warrant this.

25 and never scored more than 10 in a season, never played in Europe. Not used to consistently playing lots of games at the highest level.

Crazy stuff but if it stops them buying what they need most it's good news for us.

Yep, all that City fan bullishness about Foden coming through the youth academy will disappear overnight like so many other wasted possibilities.

Personally, I think United's got the best English winger in the world in Sancho, who is younger. Grealish would have been a nice addition, but at the detriment of Marcus Rashford, who still has a lot to show IMO once he gets his health issues sorted.

Rashford will have a better season than Grealish, even though he'll be out injured for the first chunk of it.

Not surprised at those wages for a generational player. English Ronaldinho.

Bite

The corrupt, mass murdering cvnts that own them initiated a PR drive to make sure our media always portray them, and every hollow achievement their plastic team is involved with, in a good light. The real problem are the media, their plastic fans, and anyone else who condones their erosion of the soul of football, enabling this all to happen. Football is dead.

People will have their opinions but he's a better signing for them than Kane, imo. I'd much rather they have gone all in on that transfer.

I've rated Grealish for a long time and I'd be willing to bet his numbers shoot right up at City. In a years time people will be talking about him the way they do about De Bruyne. All that's changed will be that he plays with better players that finish chances, has more possession, and plays in Europe.

As you can probably tell I'm pretty annoyed. I know Sancho can play Rw but having watched them both a lot, Grealish was the one I wanted. I thought we were priced out at £120m+, but £100m isn't that much more than what we payed for Sancho. Sigh. Hoping Sancho tears it up and Grealish's injuries take a leaf out of De Bryune's book.

Proof that Man Utd is becoming more and more irrelevant with each passing transfer window. Top English players don't want to join anymore. City or Chelsea it is.
A lot of these new posters are such mourners. Get a grip. We have Greenwood, Rashford, Maguire, Shaw, AWB, Henderson and Sancho are all good English players who play for us.

We were not in for Grealish and literally just signed a top English player. You make no sense.

Mbappe, Neymar, Coutinho, Dembele, Hazard, Felix, Greizman, Ronaldo, Grealish. How many are successful after Costing so much? 3?

Let's not do that. Can't add wages onto transfer fees, or we should do it with our own signings too.

Agree on the youth player part though. Foden must be wondering what this will do to his playing time. Especially as they still need a striker.

I know I haven't seen much of him, but whenever I have he's never looked like a 100m player. Y'all hype him so much though I'll be looking to see how he gets on...
