Israeli - Palestinian Conflict

I didn't want to point out it outright but it really makes me laugh when some of you accuse Holyland Red of being incredibly biased to his country/religion whatever when a look at your 'location' or based on other info about you, same can be said about you. That is, that's the exact reason you have anti-Israel bias. As long as arguments are based on facts they are OK but clearly some of you have run out of arguments and hence are taking it to personal level.

Exactly. I've been watching this thread for some time. Kaos is about the only decent person to have a good debate with on the matter, especially on the last few pages. The rest just resort to pettiness and childish name-calling when someone dares to challenge their opinion.

Feeky for your information I was giving an answer and a valid one at that. Hamas care more about their war tunnels then spending the aid they receive on their own populace. Care to prove me wrong?

Israel has its poor, it still spends billions on weapons of war, Hamas is no different

Just watched an interview that took place with one of the young survivors from the beach strike.

Really saddened me to see that he was calling for the Palestinians to avenge his dead brother and nephew. It's understandable, but to wish death upon someone else, at that age, is nothing short of tragic. The interview was broadcasted live and will only accentuate the blind hate towards Israelis/Jews.

Which really highlights the need for Israel to make an effort to protect the Palestinians in this fight, considering the people who are meant to be representing them clearly couldn't care less about them. As someone alluded to a few pages ago this type of attack helps to breed further extremism, if Israel could find a way to make a concerted effort to protect innocent Palestinians it could at least help stem the flow of new recruits replacing the Hamas militants they do manage to take out.

Despite the whole Jews vs Muslim situation I'm sure the Palestinians would find it more favourable to support an Israeli state if it went out of it's way to offer them some protection.

Just a step back and digressing a bit (imo for good rather than going in circles on the ongoing topic), do any of you see similar wars, if not this, leading to WW III in near future?

Such as? Pretty obvious for the posters in the Arab world but I would love to hear your reasoning for the rest of us.

This is an ongoing conflict, why would it lead to ww3 now?

'Some of you' was key in my point. Didn't say all. Also note I am not saying that will be valid argument, just pointing out how silly the national/religion bias accusation on him looks.

Yes it is ongoing but what if it escalates further and other countries start taking sides more actively. Food for thought. There has always been triggers that set previous world wars. Yup, far fetched, but would like to hear thoughts on what factors can lead to it escalating to that level.

Every war for the last 60 years or so has been looked at as possibly leading to WW3.

Very much agreed.

Yes. the facts are there for all to see. The destruction, death toll, injury toll is a fact. The oppression, occupation, the mistreatment of civilians for both sides is a fact. Another fact is how it is 1000 times worse to be living in Gaza than Israel. This is not about religion/country/1 poster on redcafe. This is about the thousands of people that are being treated in an inhumane way and the justification of this treatment which there isn't.

To be honest to Holyland, he gives it out a fair bit but he can also take it like a champ so fair play to the lad.

Looking at which countries abstained it looks like they voted the same way as America without having to flat out vote no. Almost all the countries you would expect to vote together on each side.

I expected India to abstain. If it ever escalates, expect India to be with other side for sure.

we must owe Israel some serious Internet money. I wonder what Israel has on all of the major forces in the world? There must have been something massive that we must be in debt for or some huge secret we don't know about.

That is a very interesting picture.

Notice the Israel-Arab war mention in it. Hopefully peace will be restored in whatever way soon but the longer any war continues between two Countries, it slides towards escalating further.

Yes we notice the mention of it, many of us lived around that time, what is the point? You need to dig deeper into what happened then, not just see the mention of Israel-Arab war and assume that the situations are even close to being the same.

err, I visited that wiki page later to show Suli that some small triggers can lead to a big war. It had nothing to do with my earlier post on this topic which was to ask views of everybody if they see a) this war escalating further with more countries getting involved b) if yes, what will be the factors which will cause this.

Why would Gaza even need to posses rockets? The WB is quite evidently much better off without them.

Much better off, that's an odd phrase. They may not have an army about to roll over them, but they are in the middle of a process that started 40 years ago that has robbed them of their land, freedom and rights.

You do realise what is actually happening in Gaza apart from the rockets right?

Try focusing in the rocket part. I specifically said that the WB is better off without possessing rockets as we can clearly see from the fact that there are no airstrikes against targets in the WB.

Colonised? You mean people live there? Ah, you mean the WB needs to be kept Jew-free. Got you.

How come only the Jewish people are offered citizenship in the West bank? That's apartheid.

If you're go to occupy you shouldn't discriminate.

So why are you attacking Hamas for doing the so?
That's not my sole criticism of the Hamas regime. But it annoys me when some attack Israel without any anger levelled at Hamas whatsoever. It's almost as if some condone the use of children in battles and the systematic human rights abuses that go on in Gaza without the Israelis even being involved.

Yes Bob, you're left on the "human rights" front with Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, Congo, Morocco, UAE, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Algeria.

The Gaza Strip is 25 miles long and a few miles wide and houses 1.7 million people. Where is it exactly that the Hamas fighters should go so they're not accused of using human shields?

No idea really. They have no alternative but firing rockets at civilians from mosques, hospitals and schools.

Israel has its poor, it still spends billions on weapons of war, Hamas is no different

Tens of millions of people were displaced in the 1940's. The Palestinians are the only ones still having their own UN aid agency 70 years later.

As Feeky indicated, the GS is densley populated, and Israeli civilians are being targeted from there. Civilian casualties are unavoidable under these circumstances.

World war? nobody gives a shit about this conflict anymore. Even the Arabs are fed up with the Palestinians.

To be fair, that's true for dozens of other countries. Israeli Arabs appreciate that too.

I know it's not a straightforward issue and as you've probably seen from previous posts I have plenty of issues with Hamas' tactics in all of this, I just think the current fight isn't working and something else needs to be tried.

I'm at a loss as to what that something else is however, the whole scenario is a nightmare.

Being the good analyst that you are, with a clear historical perspective, perhaps you could share with us the status of the WB and Gaza prior to the Six Day War, including the freedom and rights of those resident Arabs.
