Is Gareth Southgate a shiite England manager?

He’s fecking shocking. Shove your stats up your arse. We’re ruining an entire generation of talent by letting this guy run the show, we’ve done so well in spite of him, not because of him. Once he’s gone, who will be lining up to take Southgate on as their manager?

Loss on Southgate again in my opinion. The team does well in spite of him, not because of him.

At the 60th minute he needs to take Henderson and Foden off, who were tired/not in the game, and bring on Rashford and Grealish to kill the game when we were on top.

Instead what does he do? Waits until the 80th minute to bring on fecking Sterling who's been finished for a year and Mount who does nothing. And for Saka as well who was our best player.

He like Santos for Portugal is holding England, nice guy and a good manager and all but he's Ole for England. Sad, because this is the last world cup we'll have with a prime Kane. Sad end, Southgate needs to go. I knew they weren't scoring with 10 to go as soon as he brought Mount and Sterling on.
England would have lost 4-1 if those changes had been made. It’d have been an absolute hammering.

The changes weren’t great (particularly Sterling on for Saka) but you’ve not given an improvement there. At the end of the day England were at least a match for, and personally I’d say better, than a good France side. It happens in close games.

He's not as bad as many are making out but he's not good enough to stick with if the team are deemed incapable of moving forward with him. This is his ceiling, not a bad manager by any stretch however.

So all the people saying he's a good manager because he's done well to get us to the semi and final, he's now by your own metrics regressed.

To be fair, I thought we played really well. Probably the best performance under Southgate.

The only thing I would change is Rashford coming on at 60-70mins when there was space in behind. Unfortunate, but there you go.

Decent manager but games like this are where the best managers show their quality. Should’ve brought Rashford on much earlier & used his pace when England were on top. Taking Saka off was strange (unless injured?!)

Left it to late to make subs, prefering Mount/Sterling to Rashford..

I’m not a fan of him but I thought England played well tonight and are unlucky to be going home. They had the better chances and played better for the majority of the game. The ref was pretty poor and they missed a penalty and a number of good chances. Only mistake for me was sterling on.

Yeah, excellent point, making it indefensible right now :D

Talk about knee-jerk. You played better than the reigning world champions and tournament favourites and were unfortunate to lose. He's had another good tournament where fine margins were the difference.

Can't criticise him tonight. The team played well, but unfortunately if you miss the critical moments it can happen.

He should have subbed earlier.
Also started the game very slow. He just handed it France on a plate.

I've been hard on him and I still think a squad this talented should have a better attacking manager but I thought England managed the game well.

This is a better team than anything the golden generation produced in a tournament.

??? 4-1 to what??

Saka was our best player. Foden did nothing. Henderson was tired.

Sterling has been horrible for a year. Mount doesn't create.

How can you say those aren't an improvement? Grealish creates in his sleep. Rashford can finish.

Just like against Italy we could've won if we brought on our better attackers and took the initiative.

We have a better squad than France and we should actually try to win a match against a better team for once. Half chances and possession does not matter. Scoring goals when you have control of the match is what wins you matches.

I can't believe anyone thinks the first subs at 80 and decking Sterling and Mount was acceptable. Give your head a wobble ffs

So you think he is winning something with England.

For the first time I can say I thought he set up England really well. They were way more positive than France and dominated large parts of the game. You could say he should have made a change when they were on top and tried to get another goal, but that's how it goes sometimes. His subs were weird. Rashford and Graelish should have been on much sooner. Sterling hasn't looked like a footballer in a long time.

Typical Southgate, the only gamble he makes is throwing an extra attacker on for the last eighty seconds.

As always a maybe team, even when we have a better squad. 65th minute have to turn the screw.

Sad because Kane won't get another world cup and we won't be as good.

Mount coming on
Saka going off
Rashford not coming on sooner

All questionable but tbf they were the better team in the second half and were very unfortunate so can’t be too hard on him.

This France Side is not great. They also didn't play well today.

He didn't learn from his cowardice. You have to go for it in that 2nd half. France was shit. Go for the win with pace.

Grealish on with 5 mins to go? feck off.

But that's all on him, those are margins that decide international football. He's guilty both for not trying to use more of his squad and for bringing useless players like Sterling out of loyalty.

He'll win the euros in 2 years and people here will still be complaining that "we should have won better he should have done X/Y"

Just think you lot were a goal in the Euro Final sandwiched by some luck in '18 and '22 from having to call this clown Sir Gareth, a bang average manager.

Southgate didn't use all five substitutions even though lost most of the game? Put Grealish on for 30 seconds?

England had a good World Cup. But Southgate did really badly today.

That's such a simplistic way of seeing things. Had a couple of penalties fallen your way you could feasibly have won two World Cups and a Euros.
