Is Cristiano Ronaldo a United Legend?

He was the best player in the team (and the world) during one of the best seasons in the clubs history. Of course he’s a legend.

One of the biggest legends we’ve ever had.

And at 37 years old, who can blame him for wanting his last shot at winning something, and continue playing in the Champions League?

Apparently he’s only said “if a suitable offer comes in”. Not as though he’s refusing to train and getting toxic.

Yes he is but he isn’t one of our biggest legends.

Ronaldinho had a very short career at Barca and achieved the very top - a legend but not like Messi, iniesta or Xavi was for them.

Ronaldo was a short term legend for United.
But Ronaldinho hasn’t acted against the club in the same way Ronaldo has. Twice.

I don’t see how he could considered a club legend for that reason, even if it was just once.

Sure, so you should be surprised there are many people who don't share the same opinion.

Indeed. All I would say though is that 'legendary status' is highly subjective.
I for example have never thought that Ole was a club legend. But many do.
So on that basis, Ronaldo has been, IMHO, significantly better than him.
Hence my view.

He is no legend If he goes to Chelsea who are clearly one of our main competitor's for champions league spot, he is a snake, he didn't want to help the club by telling them earlier that he wanted to leave because he cowardly waited until he got positive feedback from mendes sneaking around trying to find another club for him behind the club's back, what a class act.

He secured his legend status in 2008, this return has been nothing more than a shirt-selling exercise.

Pretty much where United have been at for the last 8 years.

Let me get this straight: you think Ronaldo is a United legend - but Ole is not?

I mean, if you placed Ronaldo above Ole - but recognized both as legends - I could accept that as your personal opinion (misguided as it might be).

But to recognize Ronaldo as a legend - but not Ole...that's just bizarre.

I can't begin to understand what your actual reasoning behind that might be.

May I ask when you started following United and how much you know about the clubs history?

Asking because there are quite a few prominent figures of ours that have played at other clubs at various stages of their career for differing reasons.

It's also a bit harsh in the context of rumors going around for several months that he might not stay. You can't pick and choose what truth you want to believe.

One of the best to ever grace the shirt, but no club legend i'd like to keep the impossible high standards we have set for such things then have X more statues because a player was very good.

He will go down in his own right as a legend of the sport.

Legend status cemented with his CL win and then staying for an extra season to keep his word with Sir Alex. Even more of a legend for wasting his time with United this last season.

Plenty have move on but how many have moved to a direct competitor which is what ronaldo would be doing if he moved to Chelsea

I understand the sentiment but I don't see it that way. We're not a competitive team at the moment. Chelsea is. I'm not sure things will change in this coming season alone, at least until all the transfers are sorted. I obviously can wait but I don't expect a 37 year to.

I also didn't expect Chelsea to ruffle so many feathers. I know the cafe doesn't represent Manchester United fans as a whole, but the majority on here didn't care about beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final just a few seasons ago. And I'd argue we were in a more competitive place then. Just an observation.

The best player to have played for the club in the modern era but don’t think he can be a legend if he leaves twice and his peak years weren't here.

A legend? Absolutely for me.

I'm gutted he's on his way tbh. My favourite player of the last 2 decades. It felt like a dream seeing CR7 return and then witnessing Manchester Picadilly and the city centre come to life with endless Ronaldo singing before the game was spinetingling. Really felt special and unique.

I think people forget how many footballers act like pricks at times to their clubs. Or worse, act like pricks outside of football yet are revered by fans (*cough* Giggs ...)
Giggs is a horrible man and not befitting of the title of legend

Legend is overused these days in much the same way people overuse the word genius. It should be reserved for a very small group of exceptional people. Ferguson, Charlton and the like. Not bellends like Ronaldo and Giggs

He's a Real Madrid legend. He gave them his best years. It's hard for me to call him a United legend when he left us to give his best years to another club. He certainly does not love this club more than Madrid and Sporting.

Is this even a serious question?

Instrumental in the season we last won the champions league, we have only won the competition in its different formats three time.

Won the Ballon D'or here, how many have done that?

Grew from a massively talented fledgling into arguably the best player in the world while at the club.

Yet he wants to leave and now he is a bell end, or s short term legend, or a traitor if he goes to so and so, left twice.....what absoltue sour grapes nonsense.

Who can blame him for wanting to leave to go to his dream club first time round, certainly who can blame him for leaving the shambles we are at the moment?

Short term legend like Ronaldhino? Please, of course Ronaldhino is a legend at Barcelona....and for those saying that........how long was Eric Cantona here, is he not a United legend.

Traitor blah blah....Dennis Law, Schmeichel and ANdy Cole all played for City.....all are etched in our illustrious history.

And the shrot sellign exercise, yes maybe football has changed.....but Drogba and Henry went back for a season to there respective clubs and neither at a younger age had the effect Ronaldo did on an utterly shambolic side. We only qualified for the CL knockout stages this summer due to ROnaldo, only he and DeGea can hold there heads up of anything other than shambolic this season from the established pros..

People being sour now should hang there heads in shame......and people wonder why he wants to leave....it isnt just the shambolic club, some of the fans of this club are no better

No player is bigger than the club, but we should celebrate what Ronaldo has done here...in both spells

Imo he has to be, regardless who he goes to, Mane a Liverpool legend and all medals he won would fit in your back pocket compared to what Ronnie won,

I'm sorry but he is a legend for what he did for the club.

Utter cnut though.

Great post, really made me laugh.

Legend. And won't hold it against him if chooses to bury Messi 6-goals-in-the-ligue-1 and has to leave us to do so.

Go watch his documentary and see how little we feature in it. He had no qualms about going to City last season. Now that times are tough and we need him in this transition period, he’s instructed his management team to get him out of here publicly instead of helping us out.

He is Manchester United legend, but he is also a narcissist who cares about himself first. Happens to be one of the best footballers ever so you have to put up with his sh1t. I still claim that we would have been better without him last year.

Maybe I’ve just always been a sceptical git, but the whole legend thing has never really meant anything to me.

Charlton and Law were on the wane when I started to be a “serious” fan. Best was still brilliant, but almost immediately started letting us down. The Doc side was fantastic; part of its appeal was its freshness so we had no need for legends.

Great players have come and gone since then, many of whom I remember fondly. The ones I have the fondest memories of aren’t necessarily the ones the club’s marketing department have chosen for me; I feel far more attached to Nani, for example, than to CR7. A joy to watch, and loads of idiots hated him so it was easy to feel he was more “my” player. A legend though? No, and I don’t care one bit.

I suppose if I had to pick out one player as a legend in my supporting lifetime it would be Buchan. So classy for so long (or so it felt at the time) and we were so obviously a poorer side when he wasn’t playing.

Not a United legend. If he would not have been as good (even for another club), no one would consider him a United legend

Whats wrong with someone having Ronaldo higher on the pecking order than ole?

He is legend for Liverpool fans for sure. No player ever made this club small like he did. He is treating us like some shitty small club.
