Is Cristiano Ronaldo a United Legend?

Whats wrong with someone having Ronaldo higher on the pecking order than ole?

Nothing wrong with it - I just disagree (more specifically, I don't think it's possible to have Ronaldo higher unless one places undue importance on how good he was, which in my opinion has little to do with "legend" status).

What's "wrong", though, or at least very strange is to not recognize Ole as a legend at all (you won't find many United fans who agree with that - including many who absolutely detested him as a manager).

He is legend for Liverpool fans for sure. No player ever made this club small like he did. He is treating us like some shitty small club.
Yeah no one has ever asked to leave United before. Ronaldo is the first person ever to do that.

And as for Liverpool fans, they certainly wouldn't idolise a player that asked to leave, would they? white text

Absolutely. Ole as a player and Ole as a manager are two completely separate things.

Let me get this straight: you think Ronaldo is a United legend - but Ole is not?

I mean, if you placed Ronaldo above Ole - but recognized both as legends - I could accept that as your personal opinion (misguided as it might be).

But to recognize Ronaldo as a legend - but not Ole...that's just bizarre.

I can't begin to understand what your actual reasoning behind that might be.

You don't need to understand my reasoning. Because I have my view and you have yours.
It is very simple really.
I just never rated Ole.

The guy is a lousy teammate and team player. There is a reason he will struggle to find a team worth its salt taking him on. Did the same pouting at Juventus.

A Real Madrid legend first and foremost.
Wanted to leave too many times for his status as a club legend to not be debatable, was hours away from signing for City as well.
He’s the greatest ever player to play for the club but he also spent his peak years at a different club.

Either way, there are many players I would rank way higher than him as club legends.

How can any United supporter not consider Ole as a club legend? Are you old enough to remember what THAT goal felt like? We’ll never experience anything like that ever again.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo United Legend? Absolutely - he is Real Madrid legend. And please, please, please - do not call him MU legend. He is not.

Fair enough.

I suppose it's natural that Ole wouldn't mean all that much to a Bristol Rovers fan (didn't notice you were one until now).

People have different criteria for what constitutes a “legend.” Ronaldo could be viewed as a bigger legend for United than Ole simply because he was more impactful and contributed more to the team’s success than Ole did. He was the catalyst of one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.

This thread is like that slightly demented uncle that needs constant reassurance on the most clear cut thing over and over again.

He is a football legend, he is a Real Madrid legend, but should never be called a Manchester United legend. A Manchester United legend spends most of his prime at the club, would never think about City or Liverpool....

I was on the fence before he came back. The way he left just before he hit his prime after we'd develop him was gutting.

Del Piero stayed with Juve when they got relegated (through no fault of his own). While I'm not expecting Ronaldo to do that, leaving just because we didn't get CL when he was a part of the squad who failed to make top four leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

There are more considerations than just on-field performances and numbers when talking about a players' legend status at a club imo. That's why players like Ole, Forlan and Park are bigger legends than Ronaldo for me personally.

:lol::lol::lol:

I mean, come on

Ole is a legend despite ronaldo being a superior player.

nah. He wasn't as important
Without him and rooney running like mad dogs alongwith fletcher and park ronaldo wouldn't have been able to deliver half the shit he delivered.

Having one of the greatest players ever playing some of his best football under one of the greatest managers ever is pretty legendary. It seems a bit childish to try and argue whether he is or isn't a "club legend", he's created big moments that have brought a lot of joy and just be thankful for that.

This sums it up.
He is someone else's legend. United gave him a platform

I would say No. I haven't been a fan since he left the first time. He knew in April we weren't going to be in the Champions League next season. He could have told us that day "i want to leave if I can't play in the Champions League" and he and Mendes could have been shopping. But he didn't. He said the opposite in fact. He said he wanted to stay here and help United get back where they belong. which completely changed our transfer plans as I would assume United immediately said "we don't need a first choice striker now" , so we backed off Nunez (we knew his valuation before we backed off), we didn't take a shot at Richarlison (SP?). And we didn't Prioritize Anthony . In fact NONE of our major targets have been front 3 attacking players or striker since he said he was staying. Him saying he was going to stay allowed United to address some of our other pain points. Midfield/Defense. Here we are in July Nunez/Richarlison are gone, and we are down the road on Martinez which means Ajax most likely wont be letting Anthony go, not for anything less then a fortune anyway. and now all of sudden its a big issue. He put us in a BAD spot, and he's flirting with Chelsea? are you kidding me?. so NO he isnt a Manchester United Legend. Some of you are so blinded by how amazing of a player Ronny is (and he is the GOAT, No doubt in my mind) you need to remember how you felt when Wazza questioned the ambition of the club, and flirted with our rivals. How much VILE and Unforgiveness he was met with. and he still had YEARS of his career left at the time (then you need to remind yourself that Wazza stayed)

If CR7 stayed and used the tail end of his career to help United, help the club, the youngsters and bang in some goals. he would certainly be a UNITED LEGEND. As of now he is simply a legendary player who played for United. He may have some love for United. I don't doubt that. but he will always love Ronnie more then he loves United. and again thats not a bad thing from a footballing career perspective. He's the goat. its his career, his thing. but me, I support United always have, always will, I hate all of the other clubs. I'm not mad at him, and I don't blame him. But lets be honest about the situation. He is hurting us at a time when we are bleeding all over the floor. We didn't need another kick in the crotch

I would let him know he needs to empty his locker and he can train on his own, away from the club until he finds a non English club to buy him and pay him.

Forlan is a United legend? What’s next, Kieran Richardson? Shinji Kagawa?
Come on now.

If anything Ole was underrated as a player. There were quite a few seasons he scored 15goals plus. 231 games, 91 goals, and a LOT of those appearances where he didn't score he was playing left midfield (as opposed to the modern left inside forward!) or off the bench!!!! I wonder at his goals per minute ratio because I expect it's crazy. But obviously that's not the argument here.

Cristiano Ronaldo is clearly a Real Madrid legend, we were lucky to have him as a player at the start, we need to let him go now - be the best thing for both club and player. I think secretly Ten Hag - as well as the money men at United - will be delighted, as it frees up an insane amount of money for us to find a replacement, to the tune of something like 60million if his £500k p/w wages are to be believed. And next year he's going to be a year closer to 40, even.

Could not resist getting in a dig could you.
Just to be clear.
When I first joined this forum, I put Bristol Rovers as my local team.
But. I have been a supporter and fan of my first team Manchester United ever since the Munich Disaster.
Probably longer than you?

It wasn't a dig - I genuinely thought you were a Bristol Rovers supporter - 'cause, you know, that's what it says.

Christiano Ronaldo has been IMO the best player in the world. In fact the best player I have ever seen. And he played for Manchester United on 2 occasions.

Ole was a mediocre player at best and a pretty poor manager.

That is my opinion. And this forum is all about options.

Indeed. And it also says Go on Didier, which should correctly say Come on Didier. Alan Green famous radio commentary of the Chelsea CL final of the winning penalty.
I had no hand in that.

Anyway. We are both on the same side in the team we support.
We just have a difference of opinion on a very minor issue.

Let me put it this way.
I would and have on many occasions travelled from Bristol to Manchester to watch Ronaldo play for United.

I would never have dreamt of travelling to Manchester to watch Ole play.
So put as many stupid green faces as you think is clever.
I prefer to write about my opinion.
