Christ. Some of you need to get out more. He’s without doubt a united legend.
Cantona is a bigger catalyst by far. The final piece in SAFs puzzle that set us on the road for near domination (at least domestically) for nearly 2 decades. If it wasn't for Cantona, Ronaldo might well not of had a United career. I'm not saying he wouldn't of had a great career but having the tutoridge of SAF helped shape him into the player he finally became. He is. Won more than Cantona here. Catalyst for one of our most successful periods.
and I think he’s in the Top15 of our all time best goal scorers
No. End of thread.
For me, Ronaldo is a club legend, but it doesn't mean that everyone has to like or respect the decisions he's made when he's been here, his legend is more for pure ability rather than for loyalty or affinity to the club.
Ive seen a lot of player fanboism in the past decade which wasn't as evident before.Valid points but Ronaldo fanbois wont hear it. They love him more than the club.
Some might say that "legend" status has very little to do with pure ability, though.
Jaap Stam was a better player than Steve Bruce - that is as objectively true as it gets in this context.
Agreed. I’m sure there’s some sentiment for United, similar to sporting but Ronaldo is only interested in himself, which is why he’s a winner. He ain’t going to win anything here unless he’s found the fountain of youth.Never.Only ever been out for number one, which is part of his greatness.Single minded and driven but never been about UTD for him.

Now we have fans who jump from club to club along with the player.
Yes I agree he won more. It’s a difference of one League Cup, which means nothing in the grand scheme of things. And of course, the entire question of who won more is not really the best way to judge the legendary status of players, considering the likes of Wes Brown and Brian McClair won more than both of them.

Imagine if they had been around when Best was playing.Christ. Some of you need to get out more. He’s without doubt a united legend.
Yes, the likes of law and Schmeichel are deemed legends despite joining our rivals
End or no end fact is they joined our rivals.Um they joined at the end of their career to earn that final contract/money, while Ronaldo left us and gave Real his best years. BIG difference in my opinion.
So why are you telling me about “grand scheme of things”? I stated a fact and accomplishment for Ronaldo. I never said “this is the best way to judge bla bla bla”. I simply went through some of the things that Ronaldo has done at United, which is legendary, and mentioned how it compares to other players who are largely considered legends.
End or no end fact is they joined our rivals.
So you believe Ronaldo going to Madrid is worse? They gave United their best years, United wanted to move them on. If they would put in a transfer request and go to a rival abd hurt us in the league then sure it would be betraying the club.
I think for those of us who don’t really consider Ronaldo a United legend, it’s “the grand scheme of things” that really counts, more than stats such as trophies won or goals scored. It encompasses more than hard “facts”, and includes stuff that is hard to measure, such as the player’s connection with the fans, his place within the broader context of the particular condition of the club as he found it, and the general atmosphere and buzz surrounding him. It’s in this sense that I feel Ronaldo falls a bit short of those such as Cantona who he matches up with quite well statistically, or Robson who he obviously outshines in terms of raw success.
Personally, while I was often in awe of Ronaldo the player (who couldn’t be?), he irritated me a bit too much over his seven seasons with us to put him on the pedestal with Cantona, Keane, etc. Especially his attitude for a good chunk of the 08/09 season left a bad taste in the mouth. But I understand the stuff I’m talking about is rather subjective.

Why are people arguing these things at me? I never said Ronaldo was/is a bigger catalyst than Cantona.
I said Ronaldo is a United legend. He was the catalyst for one of our most successful periods. He has won more at United than a celebrated legend like Cantona. And he is also in our top 15 or too 20 all time top scorers. All facts.
And if I’m not mistaken, he’s also part of a exclusive group of two or three players than have been crowned best in the world whilst at United.
I don’t know why people read that and get super defensive and start telling me why Cantona is a bigger legend. Weird.
I share your irritation with him. But I think his legend tag was sealed by coming back to the club. No matter the motivation or outcome it was such a mad buzz to hear he was coming home. That was special and not something we got to experience with any other legends who left too soon.
Context counts. You're saying Ronaldo must be a legend when he won more than Cantona without taking into account that it was Cantona who basically set us on the road to glory whereas Ronaldo fecked off and gave his prime years to another club. Call me bitter if you want but for me that loses any sort of legend status he definitely would of had if he had of stayed with us. Madrid legend most definitely. A United one? Not for me.
I simply went through some of the things that Ronaldo has done at United, which is legendary, and mentioned how it compares to other players who are largely considered legends.
You people need to stop equating "great player" with "legend". Tevez was a great player, he's certainly no United legend in my eyes. Someone like Forlan, who didn't quite work out here, for me is a United legend. For a number of reasons, but most of all - because he gave it all for this club and didn't make a fuss about it when it didn't work out, and he still loves the club despite that. Ronaldo has always been out for himself. I'll never understand United "fans" who consider a guy that accused the club of holding him as a slave and now this as a "legend".Christ. Some of you need to get out more. He’s without doubt a united legend.

I'm on 2 minds about him being a legend. Thought he isn't before he came back, if he leaves after 1 year it probably settles it not being a legend.
I tend to agree although Schmeichel at City still leaves a bad taste. For me it was, United was only a stepping stone for him to go to his dream club and leaving after beeing a "modern slave" in United when we were winning. Now he comes back and now we are not winning he wants out again but he "loves the club" feck off.
Schmeichel and Law loved the club and gave their best years to the club and beeing important players for us so in my opinion they are legends in my eyes and Ronaldo gave his best years to Real and is a Real legend.
With our great history as a club, our standards should be higher than worshiping a Real legend.
I tend to agree although Schmeichel at City still leaves a bad taste.
You should go and do some research on George Best and how he left the club and his comments at the time. Using your logic he wouldnt be a legend. Somehow however he is there on a statue outside Old Trafford and universally thought of as one of our greatest legends. You people need to stop equating "great player" with "legend". While I'm not aware on Best's comments, that was way before my time, Best has also spent almost his entire footballing career here and gave us everything. Ronaldo fecked off in his prime and now is looking to feck off again when things are not as easy as he expected them to be. For me he is not deserving of any respect. He plays for himself, not the club. And while that is all well and good in general, you still need to appreciate the club you're playing for instead of solely caring about your own personal glory and achievements. You should go and do some research on George Best and how he left the club and his comments at the time. Using snowflakes as an argument never ends well. You have your opinion others have theirs, that's what forum is for.Go do some research on George Best.
You snowflakes are so fragile.
The fact people are questioning the Legend status of Ronaldo is pitiful.
Best was and still is my favourite ever Untied player. I got to watch him when i was a kid. How he left us was disgraceful and also his behaviour in his last 2 seasons also disgraceful. He was gone at 27. However the bigger picture and his exploits with us mean he will always be one of our greatest legends.
Ronaldo's exploits for us in time will see the bullshit "not a legend" argument consigned to the bin.
Best acted in a completely self centered manner, he insulted the club and the fans with his actions and comments during that time. He is an absolute Legend. So is Ronaldo.
Thats all you got?Using snowflakes as an argument never ends well. You have your opinion others have theirs, that's what forum is for.
You can be as aggressive and insulting as you want, but its still only your opinion. Those who hold the opinion that he isn't deserving of legend status are just as validGo do some research on George Best.

Yeah that's all I got. Am I a snowflake?Thats all you got?
Cant refute that Best was appalling with how he left us but still a legend. In fact Bests exploits in leaving us make Ronaldo look like a saint.
