Is Cristiano Ronaldo a United Legend?

No. Doesn't matter how good he is as a player, he has treated the club like a disposable napkin twice now

He doesn't represent what the club stand for, he's all about himself and united players aren't known for that, Giggs, Scholes, Neville, Rio, Ole put the club first, even Rooney despite threatening to leave twice stayed giving the club his best years.
Ronaldo only play for one team team Ronaldo.
Easy to stay at the club when we're finishing 1st or 2nd every year. Not even a remotely comparable situation.

A person who hails from the Iberian Peninsula wants to play for the biggest team in Madrid, shock horror

Are Schmeichel, Andy Cole and Denis Law legends, then?

Ah ok, so where he comes from means he has to say he's a slave to the club which made him the player he was? i have absolutely no issue with him wanting to play for Madrid, i have issue with the way he done it.

Denis Law, Cole an Schmeichel gave their best years to united. Cole never wanted to leave. in an Ideal world of they wouldn't of played for them no. Cole and Schmeichel also went to city when they were absolutely shite and irrelevant to us.

It depends on whether hed go to a rival club

youre an absolute idiot if you say no, Won everything at the club and give some of us the best united memories of the last 20 years.. would be in any united team of all time and will go down as one of the best to ever play the game. but most bitter fans seem to think he owes us something, if the club cannot match his ambition thats no fault of ronaldo.

He came here because we were 2nd, and he (and we) thought he was the key missing for a potential PL.
Reality strikes.

Of course. He’s one of our best ever. One of only four players to win the Ballon d’Or here.

The reaction to his return last year speaks for itself.

Fergie said he was the best player he coached and he won everything at Utd so yes he is a legend for his first stint at Utd

If Kaka is a Milan Legend and Hazard is a Chelsea legend then Ronaldo is easily a United legend. He’s done more for United than the aforementioned did for those respective clubs.

I understand that the view of him is divisive because of his lust for Madrid. But his achievements in red make him a legend unquestionably. The most influential player during the 06-09 by some distance.

It depends how strict you are on the definition of legend. He's certainly not on Best, Law, Charlton, Scholes, Giggs, Neville et al level but he is one of the best players to have ever played for the club and one of the most important.

I'd have him as a tier 2 legend

No he's a man utd icon not legend.

Didn't he say he was happy a month ago?

My feeling is he's freaking out at the lack of transfer activity.

For me, Ronaldo is a club legend, but it doesn't mean that everyone has to like or respect the decisions he's made when he's been here, his legend is more for pure ability rather than for loyalty or affinity to the club.

I don’t care about that. Ronaldo will still have won more at United than Cantona.

The difference is minimal:

Cantona won the league x 4 and FA Cup x 2.

Ronaldo won the league x 3 along with 1 each of the CL and FA Cup, and the League Cup x 2.

Cantona won his in 5 seasons, Ronaldo in 7.

That’s well articulated.

And still his fanboys will sing Viva Ronaldo. Same fans who keep repeating phrase that nobody is bigger than United.

I’m pretty sure all the Ronaldo trophies you mentioned have been won in 6 seasons not 7. He played 7 seasons but it took him 6 to win the trophies you listed.

Im talking in terms of their total time with us.

"Legend" is thrown around too easily these days - how many legends do you want? For me, no, he's not a legend. Robson and Cantona are the only Utd legends for me, in my lifetime anyway. I can't really say what criteria I judge that by, it's just how it is. Each to their own.

You said Cantona won his in 5 seasons. I’m saying Ronaldo won his in 6. Anyways I like them both.

Yes, Cantona was with us for a total of 5 seasons. Or a little bit less if you want to quibble.

Of course he is. I don't think I'll have to list his accomplishments with United on this forum right? He could've easily gone to City last year, but went for United.

He doesn't have time for a rebuild situation.

He Chose to leave United as one of its greatest players,
the start of his Prime years
While at Madrid he became one of the worlds top players,
and a true Real Madrid legend.

But for me, not a United Legend

I think he had a real chance to be, by coming back and leading a charge to get us back to where we belong.

If he had stayed and scored 30 goals next season in a new look side with a top coach, he would have gotten immense credit and ba hailed a hero.

He has turned his back on the club a second time though in favor of his own stats, so I think he has sealed it today, that he isn’t. I’m really disappointed to be honest.

This debate can be put to bed quite easily.
Fans shouldn't be split when discussing if a player is a legend or not.

Is this a serious question?? Honestly what next. Cantona only played 5 years then retired in his prime exactly when we needed him most? Robson didn’t win a European Cup or a league until right at the last? Best ran out on us at 27? Rooney had the audacity to question the lack of money being spent by the owners? Ridiculous. They are all United legends. All of them. I’m lucky enough to say I watched most of their games in the flesh and the amount of incredible highs Ronaldo has given me over nearly 20 years, and the level he took this team to from the challenges of 2005/6, make him an absolute great. He wanted to leave for his dream club, and now he dares to want to spend his last years challenging at the top - and this somehow erases all he’s done? Really?

Yes I agree he won more. It’s a difference of one League Cup, which means nothing in the grand scheme of things. And of course, the entire question of who won more is not really the best way to judge the legendary status of players, considering the likes of Wes Brown and Brian McClair won more than both of them.

In my book legends are great players who gave their prime years to the club and even compromised on the pitch or financially for the greater good of the club.

Ronaldo is not that, he is just a great player.
