You keep saying, but his first stint here has been legendary was quite a bit even in the larger football world. And it absolutely is among United fans. You should hear some United fans talk about it when they talk to younger fans who don't remember it. You'd think they were talking about ancient legends and myths.
It's up to each other. For some his records and contribution is enough to be a legend. For me to be a legend aside from the contribution the player must also prove his loyalty and love for the club. He didn't show any either. So no for me. I'm not young. I've been watching United for 25 years.

I voted for the second option but hell, if he brings us back the title, there can really be no choice but to call him one. We've not won or even got anywhere close in 8 years.

He was part of the group who brought us the title back in 06/07 after 3 seasons of us not winning.

Imagine if he did it again, 8 years after we last won it, and the first since Fergie retired. That would actually be some story. Stuff of legends, some might say.

They're minority but still super weird to see so many people voting no.

Called himself a slave here, forced a move from United, wanted to go to City a couple of days ago, rapist allegation. But yeah, it's super weird that people vote no.

Instrumental in 3 Utd league titles and a CL title (amongst others). Undoubtably one of the greatest players ever to play the game.

Of course he’s a United Legend.

We have only won 3 Champions League whilst arguably being the big team in England.

The fact that Chelsea have won it twice in the last couple of years shows that we should be doing better.

It's why Ronaldo's influence in getting that last CL is very important in my eyes.

He always wanted to go to Real Madrid so it was expected that he would move there eventually. It wasn't exactly a surprise and I find it weird that people hold it against him after he won everything with a red shirt. Kinda makes sense that he would feel like a "slave" if that was the opinion of most fans and/or club (and I'm pretty sure it isn't). What more you suggest he would do before moving to a new challenge and play for a club that he wanted to play since he was a kid? He even gave 1 more year even though it was common knowledge that he wanted to move.

Anyway, as far as I'm aware initially only City was in for him and he really wanted to move out of Juventus so it's not like anyone would blame him for not having other options before United came in.

The "rapist allegation" is just moronic because it was just an allegation. Innocent until proven guilty, no? Not saying he is definitely innocent but based on the way that the girl was moving the process forward, it seemed more like a play for money than anything else imo.

He has admitted his guilt and is wanted in the US, but yeah, let's say it's moronic. He played for Man United and called himself a slave, but if you think that makes you a legend, it's okay, it's up to you. In my world, that doesn't make you a legend, neither does wanting to go to City, and I don't care if he had no other choice (although he had, like staying at the biggest club in Italy, I guess that's being a slave too). He's an egomaniac, spoiled brat, and should in no sense be named in the same breath as Bobby Charlton, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, George Best or even Eric Cantona.

I struggle actually - purely because he played more games for Madrid and he was at his peak with them.

I’m pedantic I guess

I said no back then. In another thread I said he would be if he came back so I'd say he is now, unless we see a selfish prick and not a team player/leader on the pitch.

Since when he admitted his guilt or he is wanted in the US ? You are full of sht.
He isn't wanted in the US, but he will have to answer questions about the pending case. That doesn't mean he is wanted :lol:

Idgf if he is a legend or not, I just appreciate everything he gave to the club as a player. Don't know about you, but if I'm forced to stay in a company that I don't want to stay in for whatever reason, I kinda would feel like a "slave" too.

Nothing against your opinion and it's your right to have it but it sounds a bit naive and biased.

He has admitted, so you can cut down your smileys. I meant with wanted that he would be brought in for questioning if he enters the country. Juve canceled their US pre-season trip just because of this.

When I'm old I'll definitely be telling people I grew up watching Ronaldo grow up into the world dominator he turned into. If that's not a legend nothing is.

My statement was not absurd in 2018. I grew up watching Ronaldo grow too, but that's never been enough at United.

There is room for the narrative to change over the next 2 years depending on his accomplishments here.

When did he admit guilt? Have you got a source? Genuinely curious.

The whole article: https://www.spiegel.de/internationa...nts-emerge-in-rape-allegations-a-1241349.html

A quote from the article: "I fecked her from the side. She made herself available. She was lying on her side, in bed, and I entered her from behind. It was rough. We didn't change position. 5/7 minutes. She said that she didn't want to, but she made herself available. The whole time it was rough, I turned her onto her side, and it was fast. Maybe she got some bruises when I grabbed her. (...) She didn't want to 'give it to me,' instead she jerked me off. I don't know any more exactly what she said when she was jerking me off. But she kept saying no. 'Don't do it' -- 'I'm not like the others.' I apologized afterwards."

Not quite. A United legend would never leave United to join another club he loved more even before the peak of his career and only return several years after the peak has ended to see out his career, and in unplanned, hasty circumstances at that.

He desperately wanted out when he was about to reach the pinnacle of his sporting career, spent 13 long professional years in wilderness, and returned only when his Juventus move didn’t pan out as he had hoped. I may be wrong but he returned only when the Manchester City deal fell through.

He is the second best player in the post-Maradona era, and a huge, huge Real Madrid legend. He was a world class performer for United only in the final two seasons - 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 (42 goals and 26 goals in all competitions). He scored 100-odd goals for United, 100-odd for Juventus and 450 goals for Real Madrid.

Sorry, he doesn’t make the cut for me.

Not even close. He was obviously a better player than almost everyone who ARE United legends. But Ronaldo himself is not one.

Next question.

I voted yes, but I can understand people voting no, since he's a bigger Real Madrid legend.

Though if he wins us another title, maybe people will change their tune.

Beckham was a United supporter who was at the club since he was 14 and never wanted to leave. Ronaldo was at the club for six years and agreed with comments about him being a slave for not being able to leave after five of them.

Now, I'm not saying I consider Becks a legend, at least not on par with the likes of Charlton, Giggs etc, but for me he's above Ronaldo (in terms of being considered a legend of the club) for multiple reasons.
In Ronaldos defence he always said that his dream was to play for Real and never hid that fact; the thing he said about being treated like a slave was silly but I think he was disappointed he wasnt allowed to go when Real first came calling. That said he never failed to give 100% for the remainder of his days at United and never stopped loving the club or its supporters. Ronaldo achieved a lot in his first spell and helped the club achieve a lot too. He added an exciting "star" quality lustre in the vein of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Bobby Charlton, Ryan Giggs, Denis Law, Bryan Robson and Ruud Van Nistleroy. Ronaldo is definitely a Legend.

I voted nope and still say nope.

If we get to the end of the season and let's say we see Ronaldo on the Old Trafford pitch handing the Premier League trophy to Sir Alex during some celebrations, maybe I would contemplate changing my vote.

Yes for me, and I would have said that had he not come back. Because he was not only our best player, but the best player in the world, during our last period of dominance in the late 2010’s. With Ronaldo, we won three league titles in a row, and reached two European Cup finals, winning one of them (in which he scored). That’s a massive impact in the history of our club and it makes him a legend in my opinion. People say he gave his best years to Madrid, which is true, but it’s not like he did nothing for us and left, he was immense for us too. And frankly he was never more entertaining than when he was with us.

However, if he’d gone to City I’d have to have revoked that title. It’s all semantics really, but you need to retain the affinity and love with the fans to have that status, in my opinion. It’s more than just stats.

He left too early, when we were a much, much better side than Madrid, which has always left a sour taste in the mouth. I think if he’d stayed another couple of years (when that side began to decline) there wouldn’t be a question.

Imagine if we’d won five in a row and another CL? That’s what that team was capable of, and he broke it up for the sake of his ego. I’d say he owes us a title and a long overdue proper run in Europe if he wants to be a proper legend.

No.
If he help us win couple of titles and CL, I will change my opinion. As of today, he is Madrid legend
But kudos to him, not choosing Citeh.Showed a huge respect towards our club.Should be welcomed with standing ovations

His name is sung in the stadium season after season, he won everything here, in his last season he was the best player that has EVER graced this league, has since gone on to win everything elsewhere and now returns to help us regain our status as top dogs.

I've never been as entertained before or since Ronaldo, the feeling we had going into games with him was fecking imperious, you just knew he would influence and probably win you the game, I've never felt that since or before (shout out to RVP though), it was a uniquely enjoyable period, that makes him a legend in my eyes without a second thought. Especially when you factor in him being a huge factor in winning everything during that period.

He could leave a top-five goalscorer at the club.

Every former United legend regard him as a club legend which is telling as well. You'll struggle to find a single one of his peers that don't regard him as such, including SAF.

I was devastated when he left for Madrid but it was his dream, I got over it and enjoyed watching his career regardless because he gave everything here and is by a distance the best footballer I have ever seen for the club (I never saw Best, Law, Charlton.) He was simply electrifying, I still think some of his best football was played at United before he went to Madrid and become the ultimate goal machine.

Basically it seems it boils down to fans thinking players have to be a one-club player and never so much as negotiate on their contract renewals or be linked to other clubs for them to be classed as club legends? Yeah feck off. If that's the case there will never be club legends ever again.

he made it very clear from his earliest days that he was a Madrid fan - who wouldn't want to play for the club they supported as a kid?

Without a .doubt one of the best ever players to wear the United shirt. However, that alone does not make a legend. He left the club whilst in his peak and has just come back after courting City to collect his last paycheck.

George best was an alcoholic womaniser who left Manchester United at 28 years old. Is he still a legend though? Yes of course he is.

Read the reports in the proper papers - I understand most are saying he rejected City the moment he heard we wanted him. Or are you going to have a pop at Denis Law too?

Yes, and those who say "no" will be changing their tune by the end of the season
Not for me, even if he'd help us to win another PL or CL. That won't change the fact he left us in his prime for his Madrid love.

He loves Madrid and spent his peak years there, so he's a Madrid legend. He didn't love us, and didn't spend his peak years here so not an United legend.

The proper papers/media which broadcast the narrative you believe?

A big fat no.

A club legend wouldn't have said he feels like a slave to stay at his club in order to leave and give his best years to another club he loves. Cristiano clearly loves and cares about Real Madrid more than any other club including Manchester United. I don't even think he wants to be seen as a United legend. He'll probably want people to associate him with Real Madrid and remember him as a Madrid legend.

He's a great player who played for United. Not a United great.

Best, Law, Charlton, Evra, Rafael, Rio, Irwin, Ole, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Becks, Nevilles, RvP are the kind of players I feel I would say are fans and players who I have admired over the years. Strangely for some reason, I have started like Rooney more after he left the club.

It's a very personal choice who you have a legend in your mind. Personally, with respect to other fans, I may have set myself a different set of standards to others as to who qualifies as a legend. Probably more my heart than statistics or longevity.

Being an alcoholic is a disease. However, his behavior was problematic but you have to take into context that this was in the sixties. And yes, George Best is a United legend for me, but it's okay if you don't agree.

I hope I'll change it to yes, but less so for leaving early.
He'll need to be pivotal in us winning the PL and the CL for that to happen.
